The crystalline salt deposits make up the good amount of patch in the valley and this is the place where you can watch it closely. The geometric shapes of salt crystals are visible if one watches closely. Its a regular salt (Sodium Chloride). Tip: These salt flats make up an excellent background for portrait photography.

This is a very interesting place. You're 292' below sea level and there's salt formed on the ground that you can walk on. yes, I did taste it. It get super hot, so go early and be prepared with water and wear a hat. Once you get on the road to here, there's nothing so fill up your gas tanks too. It's worth the drive and definitely get out and walk around. If you look across the street, there's a marker that's easy to miss showing you where sea level is. Puts it into perspective.

I'm not really sure why I wanted to see this place but if you're reading this review then you probably just 'get it' too. I've always wanted to visit Death Valley since reading about it as a kid and this was the place I wanted to see. I felt like it was worth the drive. The scenery and the entire area around Badwater is just cool. Not sure I'd ever go back but I'm glad I went! I think you will too.

Had a nice time here. Well worth the visit. Take water with you even when you leave the car to view.

What an incredible place! Salt beds in a surreal surrounding of mountains and austere nature. You feel like you are perhaps at the bottom of the ocean or even on another planet. Amazing
