Visiting this arch would be a challenge without a 4x4 or a guided tour.

We were delighted to make the stop during our tour. Beautiful views and don't be a dummy - you can see where rock is flaking away on the underside.

Stunning area as a whole. Do this!

Canyonlands national park is best viewed from a 4x4. We took a guided tour and we were granted some totally amazing views of Musselman, horseshoe bend, the white rim etc. The arch defies belief that it is still holding together - the wonder of nature. Stand for a while and admire the vastness and depth of the canyon. It puts everything else into perspective.

At the end of the Shafer drive from inside Canyonlands National Park you keep going straight and then follow some more precipitous bends (not quite so hair raising as the top bit of the Shafer trail) until you come to a sign that points to Musselman Arch.

My gang of 6 as we walked towards the arch literally said in the same breath 'Is that all there is.... oh my god'. It looks fairly innocuous until you see how big the drop is on either side. Walking across it is not too scary, but the longer you stand on it waiting for the photo to be taken, the more scary it gets.

The vista is magnificent, and everyone gets a buzz from having seen it. Definitely worth the drive - and don't bother unless you have 4wd.

Getting to Musselman Arch requires 4x4 as the road here is rough. Off the White Rim Road, just past the Gooseneck. The road is bumpy, but fun in the right vehicle.

The arch itself is different on that it is flat. I’ve seen pictures of people on it before, but that is now restricted.

It was pretty cool still to get so close to the top side of an arch. A side journey well worth getting to view this interesting formation.
