Awesome adventure
Oct 2020 • Family
Took a sail boat from the Dante Fascell Visitor Center in Biscayne National Park to Boca Chita Key. Our captain was Jeremy and he was awesome. The ride to the island was very breezy and COVID safe. Loved hearing about the history of the park from our tour guide. Once on the island we enjoyed our packed lunches by the beach and went for a swim. We then were able to paddleboard around the area which was fun for everyone. Got to sail back to the visitor center which was very peaceful. Great trip overall and will definitely be back.

Great day!
Mar 2020
Looking for a great outdoor activity during this difficult time period? I would recommend this excursion. Beautiful boat ride out to Boca Chita, with a great narration by Captain Jesse. Lovely time exploring a lighthouse and small key before returning back to the beautiful Key Biscayne National Park.

A quiet and relaxing diversion from usual Miami hullabaloo
Mar 2020
This was former retreat of Honeywell family who built a private island paradise; but not much left but for foundations now. We arrived via sailboat. Luckily our draft was just 3 feet> the entry channel is a pretty shallow patch. Tied up at horseshoe shaped marina dock. Easy to find a spot. Light breeze kept bugs away from our boat, but if you venture inland you better have LOTS of bug spray on. Lots of picnic benches and grills. No concessions for sale so bring what you want to eat and drink and carry tour trash away. Lighthouse is fun to visit but is locked unless a tour guide is handy. Immaculate grounds ! So a relaxing spot to watch the water and if you overnight, the lighted Miami skyline.

Lovely boat tour
Mar 2020
We took the boat tour from Biscayne National Park to Boca Chita Key. Danny was our tour guide and Captain Joe (?) - both were very friendly and informative. It was a beautiful day and it took about 3 hours. Highly recommend you try it.

Ok, but not exceptional
Feb 2020
As with many people, we took the boat tour from Biscayne National Park ranger station to Boca Chita Key. In our goal to visit all the National Parks, this is one way to fit in a visit to Biscayne National Park. It was a little windy and, as some others have mentioned, the boat ride was wet for some of us. The boat they use is a pontoon style craft with an open front, which allowed a lot of splashing onto the people stuck in the front. I would recommend wearing a swim suit for guys, definitely not jeans. The people in the back were pretty dry. Being in February, the water wasn't really warm enough to snorkel so the visit was limited to about 2 hours on the Key, which was once a private island and has a couple of structures including a "fake" lighthouse. That is, the structure looks like a lighthouse but was never an official one and, in fact, sometimes lured boats onto the reefs when partygoers illuminated the lighthouse. To summarize, the trip was interesting but not exceptionally so. You need to judge for yourself to decide if it is worthwhile. It is one of the few ways to get to see more of the part than the ranger station.

Beautiful Underwater National Park, relaxing boat ride
Jan 2020
Biscayne National Park is 95% underwater, so unless you snorkel or scuba, you will not be "seeing" the great majority of the park. We took the 3 hour r/t boat ride to see Boca Chita Key. It was a lovely day and the ride was pleasant - an hour out, an hour on the key and an hour boat ride back to the visitors center. We climbed up the decorative lighthouse, walked around the Key, ate the lunch we brought with us on the small beach and admired the view. Nothing to shout about, but it was pretty and we learned a bit about the history of the area from the boat "captain". Had the water been clearer and the sky not been overcast, we would have taken the snorkel option, it just wasn't a good day for a snorkeling adventure. We enjoyed touring the Visitor's Center when we returned. Actually the highlight of the day for us was seeing manatees swimming in the canal right outside the park entrance. We're from the west coast, so we'd never had the opportunity and it was cool. We're glad we went and would go back to do some in the water activities next time we're in the area.

Great boating and history ride
Feb 2020 • Couples
We took the boat tour from Biscayne National Park ranger station to Boca Chita Key—about @$40. Windy that day and glad for raincoat on way back due to the spray. Waterproof trunk provided for protecting packs. Boat crew great and gave a lot of colorful history of the area. The Boca Chita Key had a lighthouse and a few remaining buildings of the previous millionaire hangout. Nice nature walk and good birding. Plan about 3 hours for the trip. Adequate time on the key.

Worst National Park in the Country
Feb 2020 • Friends
This was the Worst National Park experience I’ve ever had. First, the boat ride out was soaking wet. We couldn’t look around because the sea spray was so intense we had to keep our heads down. Then when we got to Boca Chita, it was Party Central, filled with yachts blaring music and loud, drunken people. Yes, the lighthouse was interesting—but mostly because it was “a fancy lawn ornament,” in the words of our guide. It is not now nor has ever been a functioning lighthouse. The bridge for the trail was put, so there was nothing to explore beyond the yachts. I’ve never before wanted less time at a park, but I couldn’t wait to leave. Terrible experience and I’ll never go back under any circumstances!!

Unique National Park that is mostly all water!
Feb 2020
Biscayne National Park is mostly all water so to enjoy it, you need to spend time on or in the water! We took a 4 hour trip from the Park to Boca Chita Key which is a tiny Key off the coast of Biscayne. The water was pretty rough so our ride was also a little rough, but a LOT of wet spray unless you were lucky enough to get the back seats! We had no idea to expect this so be warned if you take this trip! It was a beautiful hot day so it did not ruin our experience. Upon arrival at the Key, we were allowed to climb the small decommissioned lighthouse which was kinda cool! History of the Key was very interesting. Definitely worth the trip. Don't need to spend a huge amount of time here...our tour gave us about an hour, which was plenty.

Biscayne Bay Boca Chita lighthouse

I had a wonderful time on this trip. Jessica our naturalist was a wealth of knowledge about the Key itself. When you go if you’ve saw the movie the Great Gatsby, think of that. This was a place in the 1920s the very rich partied like the elite they were. It is very pretty not the wilderness most national park enthusiasts are use to. It’s incredibly beautiful. We saw loads of birds not much other marine life as the water was a bit choppy. I visited in early February and temperatures were unseasonably warm. That being said the water was only about 85. I enjoyed the trip my only complaint would be to have more time on the Key itself. Oh unlike some of the other reviewers. I was there on a Thursday and the place was crawling with rangers, customs agents, fish and wildlife officers and other Federal agents. They were pleasant and very friendly. There were only two private boats moored up.
