You have three choices for viewing Delicate Arch: Delicate Arch Trail, Upper Delicate Arch Viewpoint and Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint.

From the easily reached lower viewpoint, continue on Upper Delicate Arch Viewpoint trail, a Moderate route that is rocky and steep in spots. You get a much closer view of Delicate Arch, but it is still quite a ways off. Also: from this vantage point, you're looking at the arch from the side, meaning you see very little blue sky inside it. To see what Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint is like (including a representative photo), read my review, "Way off in the distance."

TIP:

* Drive past the Delicate Arch Trail parking lot to reach the upper and lower viewpoints. If there's a traffic jam (people waiting to get into that popular parking lot), drive through the pullout area on the right to continue past without waiting!

We only had one day to spend at Arches NP. We did a self guided audio tour and by the time we got to the Delicate Arch area about 5 hours in we had already hiked/walked about 7 miles. We were tired and hot (101° day) and didn't want to hike the long trail to the arch. We chose to walk the Upper Delicate Arch Viewpoint trail instead. This is a pretty difficult trail for the average hiker/walker. It starts out pretty easy and level and quickly gets steep and somewhat rocky. There are places where there are "stairs" which make it somewhat easier, but if you go, be prepared to be hiking/walking uphill most of the way. The trail doesn't take you very close to the Delicate Arch. As the title says, it's just a viewpoint.

Did not want to fight parking lot or stand in line for photo op at Delicate Arch do this was a good alternative option. Short steep hike up, good views of arch from a distance. If wanting to access Delicate Trail suggest arrive before 6 am to avoid crowds. Note the park entrance closes routinely by 830-9 am due to parking lot capacity follow their Twitter account for updates. In my opinion Windows trail great option with multiple arches if can only choose one due to parking limitations

Only visit this viewpoint if you can’t make the full Delicate Arch hike. After previously hiking to Delicate, was disappointing. You are just too far away to appreciate the Arch. I would still encourage people to make this hike if the full Delicate hike is too much for them.

If you don’t have the time to hike up to Delicate arch this is a good alternative. The views are across a small canyon and you cannot get up to the arch from this vantage point. The hike to the upper arch is mostly uphill but not too difficult.

This trail is a bit more exciting and challenging then the lower trail. However, even from the vantage point you are still a ways from the arch itself. A pair of binoculars would surly enhance the experience. I hiked past the platform onto the up heaved slabs forward of the arch. This gave me a bit better view but was challenging requiring sure footing as there are some fairly steep slopes. I would not recommend it unless you are agile. It is easy to see how this got its name once you study it. This arch is definitely a highlight of Arches National Park but unless you hike to the arch itself this is a little disappointing. It is less than .75 miles out and back.

We did not hike to the arch but walked to the upper view area. It was still fairly early before 9 am. There were some folks there taking photos but not overcrowded. I used my iPhone 11 to take the closeup shot. It was good enough yet still too far. I suggest bringing binoculars along for better view.
This is the only arch listed on the easy hike section that can only be viewed from afar.

The upper and lower Delicate Arch viewpoints are a location where you can see the Delicate Arch off in the distance. If you have done the hike to see the arch, then you don’t need to bother driving out to this viewpoint.

However if you can’t or do you not want to make the hike out to Delicate Arch then you could use binoculars and see the famous Delicate Mar from this viewpoint.

Be clear which viewpoint you are wanting, and attempting to reach. Some of the other reviews here are talking about different places.

'Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint' is a flat 100m from the carpark and gives a distant (mile away) view of the arch.

'Upper Delicate Arch Viewpoint' is a steep 400m from the carpark. It gives a better view because it's on the same level as the arch, but it's still a long way away. Worth the effort though.

'Delicate Arch Trail' starts from a different carpark and is a much longer (more than a mile) ascent to the arch itself. This one needs more time and care due to length and exposure to the sun.

My husband and I were both struggling with chest infections when we visited Arches National Park so hiking the main trail to Delicate Arch was not an option for us so we went to the viewpoint. When we got there we found 2 options, an upper and a lower viewpoint. The lower viewpoint was visible from where we stood and was about 100 yards away in a flat path, the upper said it was about 0.5 mile and the path looked flat so we opted for that.

It was only a flat path for half the trail, after that a series of worn steps took you the remainder of the way up a climb to the viewpoint. It gets you nearer to the arch but still not close and actually we thought the angle better from the lower viewpoint. I've attached 2 pictures, the one with people visible is the upper viewpoint, the one without is the lower, both taken with a zoom lens.
