the Spring itself is nothing beautiful, just a small pond of dead and dirty water (the diameter of the pond maybe just 2 meter. But in the area, there is also a nature center which is worth to go inside and take a look, there is also a wild garden you can walk a bit. the Abbe Museum is closed, not sure will it open again?

Sieur de Monts has a Nature Center and hiking trails. The Nature Center was a letdown. It is one room with a few nature displays. It takes about 10 minutes. There are rangers available to answer questions and give hike suggestions. You can also get your National Park Passport stamps here.
Outside there are multiple hiking trails and a Wild Garden. We took the Jesup Path. Half of it was a boardwalk and the other half was gravel. It was all flat and very easy. A stroller or wheelchair would probably do okay. It is very kid-friendly and shaded.
There are restrooms at the parking lot. The parking lot is a good size. We found it with multiple open spots.
Sieur de Monts is accessible from the Park Loop Road and Main Street.

I would consider the access to the walking trails nearby, it makes it one of my favorite places to go walk. In particular the Jesup trail to the Great Meadow is one my favorite places

First off, there was a huge septic project happening while we were here and as a result, the Abbe Museum and the Nature Center were closed. The Wigwam, while very neat, is in disrepair and should be under construction too. The spring, well...it's just gross. Covered by a rotting structure and behind plexiglass, the green sludgy water doesn't make the marketing slogan "sweet waters of Acadia" too enticing. The gardens here are beautiful and well done however. The Park Service needs to spend some time and money to restore these landmarks otherwise they're just going to rot. Sad to see....

This is a famous area in Acadia NP. Visitors have been coming since the 1800s to see the spring. This is also the trailhead for several different trails, including one that takes you to Cadillac Mtn.
We saved this visit for a cloudy day that threatened rain. We of course got there early - 0800. The parking lot seems large, but by 10am it's already filled. This is also a shuttle stop.
We looked at the Wild Gardens Of Acadia first. It was nice to do them all by ourselves. It's very peaceful.
Then, we hiked the Jesup Path on the other side of the gardens. It takes you past the gardens & to a boardwalk through a boggy area. At .5 miles, you reach an intersection with Hemlock Road. Continue straight. through a beautiful, peaceful meadow (The Great Meadow). At .7, you reach the Park Loop Road. You can continue across to another loop or take the loop right & at .1 miles take the Hemlock Road back to Sieur de Monts. This is a VERY easy trail. Strollers should have no problem whatsoever. We continued down Hemlock Road until it met up again with Jesup Path. Go past the Spring to the Tarn, which is a pond maybe .3 miles beyond. We tried to hike around the Tarn, but gave up. It's a VERY rocky/rooty mess & we feared for an ankle injury. We took The Wild Garden Trail back to the Spring to make a loop. Another very nice trail.
The Spring is very small, but there's a paved rock you can take your picture at that some famous people have stood for their own pictures. There's also a Spring House, which I couldn't figure out what the point of it was.
By the time we finished the hike, the Nature Center was open. It was OK. Not large. Some animal dioramas. A very small gift shop. There are Park Rangers there to help you find a trail. I was a little ticked off that they had no area trail maps. None even for sale. They had these laminated ones they would 'lend" you. I would have paid $1 if they would have ran me off one on a copy machine!
The bathrooms are also there.
The Abbe Museum didn't open until 10am, so we decided to take another loop trail. Emory Stairs & Hoham Stairs are 1 mile in length. Both are equally steep, so it doesn't matter which one you take up or down. I had the least amount of trouble going up. Down just gives my knees a lot of aches & pains. The view from the ledge at the top was nice.
By the time we got back, the museum was open & we checked that out.
All in all a nice place to enjoy on a cloudy or rainy day. We spent the morning there & had a good time.

The Sieur de Mounts spring was important to the local history. It is named for Pierre Du Gus de Monts, who was a French Goverment official, who was commissioned with establishing a French colony.
The shed over the Spring was actually built not to protect the springs, but to provide a cooler place to store food and other perishable items. Since the spring water was much colder, it offered a cooler environment when enclosed.
Was a cool spot to snap some pictures.

This is a very popular stop whose biggest feature is a mini botanical garden. The spring is not much to see - simply covered by a small glassed in gazebo. If you're not in to plants = skip it.

Made this stop and thought it would be cool if we could get a taste of spring water? Instead it looked like the actual spring was under construction with a new dome shaped structure being erected over it? We took a quick tour of the garden area, which was very nice and then got back on the Park Loop Road to proceed to the next stop.

This was a beautiful and flat path that is mainly boardwalk, which made is handicapped accessible for me in my wheelchair. I will say that there were a few steps to go down, large bumps to go over in order to get to the boardwalk path itself, but it wasn’t too difficult (especially with my hubby maneuvering the wheelchair). The path goes right through a beautiful white birch forest and marshland (which was not wet at all in July). The boardwalk itself is not very wide and it is difficult for anyone to pass my wheelchair. But there were pull-offs with educational displays and benches every 100 yards or so to make it easier. This was one of my most favorite places in Acadia.

I had no idea about this walk, and I’m so glad I stopped. It was an absolutely stunning walk through the trees and some wetlands. We were there right when the leafs were beginning to turn, so we missed out on the beautiful fall colors.
