If you have a park pass, this is a somewhat quieter place to go for a swim. The water is warm and is very shallow in the beginning. The beach is just ankle deep and as you walk out, it takes a long time to get to your waist. This is great for kids! There are also lifeguards present. We... More

With sandy beaches at a premium near Mount Desert Island, finding Echo Lake Beach was a tremendous find. Our three granddaughters played in the sand, waded in the chilly lake water and loved the venue. Lifeguards are actually stationed here, so that takes the worry out of swimming with youngsters. Wood ducks were the entertainment source and they put on... More

We decided to swing by Echo Lake quickly before leaving Maine. What a pleasant surprise! We had no idea that there would be a small beach there. The beach was quiet with just a few families enjoying the sun. There were also some kayakers on the lake. Overall, it was very quiet and peaceful. Many people probably do not realize... More

We loved swimming in the cool waters of the lake and we enjoyed the beautiful views, too! I think it is one of the only swimmable lakes on the island.

Echo Lake is a fresh water lake located on the quiet side north of SW Harbor. The beach is small with trucked in sand, but it is a nice respite, especially on hot days in July and August. The scenery is lovely with the cliffs above on the left - the Beech Cliff trail leaves from the north end of... More

Beautiful swimming spot, and not at all crowded on a late afternoon in late June. Spotted a pair of common loons patrolling their nesting area, and heard, but did not manage to see, some bullfrogs. Both the air and the water were rather chilly, so for awhile I just admired the views from the shore, but very, very gradually waded... More

This is a swimmers paradise. Clean still waters, water is reasonably warm during summer. There are life guards as well, they have posts to indicate how far you can swim, would be nice if there were no such limits, I assume they are set by the life guards. In any case there is lots of space to swim and the... More

We visited here for just a little bit. The beach is handicap accessible all the way into the water. The beach is clean and there is a life guard on duty. We stopped just to take in the views. It is amazing to see this lake with the mountains next to it. We didn't swim but it looked quite inviting

It's so peaceful and calm and the view of the lake with the mountains is straight out of a magazine. And the lake doesn't leave your body with salt so that's a nice addition. Highly recommend you going here. Even better to bring a picnic to enjoy in the shade.

Echo Lake Beach is small, but the water is warm by mid July and stays warm through September. The water is shadowed by the soaring Beech Cliffs that rise vertically from the water. The views down lake are always interesting with kayaks, sailboats and other floating craft enjoying the peace of the lake. I swim here all summer into the... More
