if you visit it, you'll wish less people had discovered it; that is how beautiful it is.
Small, pebbled, with sunbeds and umbrellas and with drinks service from the taverna across the street, it makes for a perfect half-day at the beach.
The other half you can visit the nearby caves or the shipwreck bay, sailing from this beach in small enjoyable boats.
Makris Gialos is a little gem in Zakynthos, I truly recommend enjoying it.

Saturday 31st July and we visited this beach which is situated 30 kilometres north of Zakynthos Town and lies between Agios Nikolaos and Xigia Beach.

The main purpose of our visit was it was the departure point for our Shipwreck Boat Tour, we boarded the boat here.

As we arrived early we had about half an hour to explore the beach.

A small pebbled beach that sits on a small cove flanked on either side by a rocky and craggy headland with a mountainous backdrop.

When we visited it was practically deserted with just a few people down the far end of the beach. There were some, not too many, umbrellas and sunbeds available for hire.

There was plenty of space along the beach to spread out towels and beach mats.

Pedalos were also there to hire.

There is a Taverna across the road and up a small hill.

We boarded our boat from a small pontoon, as our boat sailed away from the beach it was an opportunity to see headland and rugged coastline.

What a difference a few hours makes, on our return coach journey we drove past here and it was rather busy. We definitely saw it at it’s best early morning.

The see is indeed exceptional but amenities are very poor: umbrellas very small, not proper for spending shadow. Maybe the period we visited this beach was also not the best one - July, but it was so crowdy we simply couldn't enjoy it. So, my recommendation would be to visit the beach just as long as you take a bath and before 10:00.

I think after Dafni it is the most beautiful beach in Zakynthos. It consists of small pebbles and the water has unreal colors.
The price of a sunbed is 10 euros and of an umbrella 5 euros.
You can also come with a personal umbrella and towel to enjoy the water.
The taverns are upstairs so if you don't want to go up every time you're thirsty, it's a good idea to bring something cold to drink in a heat-insulated bag.

Beach with larger pebbles and clear water. Suitable for snorkeling - you will see multicolored fish. Right by the road.

We briefly stopped off at Makris Gialos Beach as it was fairly close to our accommodations. Parking seemed to be limited (non-existent, really), but we followed in the footsteps of other beach-goers & just parked on the side of the highway. Unfortunately, it was a bit too cold to swim, but the water was beautiful & clear. The sand was more pebble-like, so if you prefer finer sand, this may not be the beach for you. Overall, it was very pretty & nicely kept!

This beach was one of our favourites in Zante. Lovely clear, crystal sea and sunbeds available to hire. We found the lady who hires them very pleasant and helpful. Yes, you do have to pay for them but no different to the many other beaches we visited around the island. If you are looking for a sandy beach then this is not for you but the shingle is perfect if you have swim/dive shoes. We visited this beach 4 times and would definitely visit again when we next go to Zante. There is a fab restaurant/bar over the road which you can get anything from a coffee to a meal and they also do takeaway options to eat it on the beach.

Pebble beach, take your water shoes for this one. The water is crystal clear- a great spot to relax or snorkel. The taverna close to the beach has good food and a small pool.

The lady who was in charge of the sunbeds was so rude.. don't even worth it.
Me and my partner went on the beach and we sat on the sunbeds and we was like laying 30 min and the lady named Lektra (ilektra I am not quite sure) started yelling at us and telling us to leave from there with very attitude and very rude. She was sreeming to go away because she "work" there like we were told by somebody that the sunbeds was taken.. me and my boyfriend tried to understand the situation and talk to her but she didn't even want to and continued yelling at us to go.. we don't even take the time to get away before she started calling us names...UNBELIEVABLE HOW THEY LET HER TO WORK WITH PEOPLE ..NO PATIENT NO MORALS AND NO RESPECT TO OTHER PEOPLE.. so disappointing to see that kind of service in Greece.. ( from my experience the service in Greece is usually excellent) If you are looking to visit nice beaches in Zante better go somewhere else like Banana in Vassilikos with is wonderful beach with excellent service or go Ksigia which is before makris gialos and it is a spectacular beach.
