It costs $15 per person to enter this refuge and it is worth it. Nice parking area and camping available. Many iguanas running around. Beautiful beach, easy to walk on. There is a crocodile area, off the beach, that is a refuge for them. We did not see them and that was fine with us.

I was staying at Papagayo Peninsula and drove 1 1/2 hr to this beach.
Absolutely worth it
One of the best
Surrounded by green this blue water beach is very calm so you can swim and then take a stroll
If you go early morning, no one is there and you are all alone in the middle of the most amazing beach
15 $ to enter the park is totally worth it!

One of the last real camping-friendly beaches in the country, with parking, showers, toilets, grills and designated spaces. Plus this white sand beach is one of the best in Costa Rica. Fortunately, only a few people know about this place, probably because it´s a bit remote.

We have known the beach for many years, we are very happy to see everything very clean and tidy!
Easy to pay and enter, a clean and quiet beach; an excellent experience!

Wonderful place in which dry forest and beach come together in a fine way. it is a government regulated location in which you can camp with friends or family. There are no hotels, stores or restaurants close by as it is a protected area. Beautiful!

Preposterously beautiful beach teeming with wildlife - we saw capuchins, raccoons, coatis, iguanas etc, and apparently there are armadillos around as well. Basic, functional camping facilities and very friendly, helpful rangers. No people. Be aware - gangs of raccoons will spend the whole night trying to get your food - make sure it’s tied in a secure bag high above ground level!

How is the drive to Junquillal Bay from Play Hermosa? Are the roads paved or more rough? We plan to rent a car and make a day trip over to the refuge.
