About
Modelling the past for the future. The benchmark for modelling excellence. Pendon's centrepiece exhibition of the Vale of White Horse is a re-creation of the rural landscape of the 1920s and 30s in breathtaking detail. Pendon is also home to our famous Dartmoor and Teignmouth Sea Wall scene models and the ground breaking Madder Valley Railway. Our volunteer guides provide informative descriptions about the history, geography, society and transport of the times. A fun and educational experience for all. We also offer a small tea room, museum shop and free wi-fi. Disabled parking and access available.

This was the worst place my family have ever had the displeasure of visiting. Good model villages etc are always well worth seeing, but this was terrible. The scene was very old, dusty, and had very little to look at (e.g. few people, few buildings). The 'model makers' had also decided that adding some rude scenes was appropriate (such as a man urinating, which the 'guide' decided, in a rather creepy manner, was a good idea to point out to my daughter). Only one train was running on the tracks, so there was very little to see and very little movement on this dull scene. The night time scene was not working. Given the extortionate cost of this museum, and the fact there was literally nothing to see or marvel at, we will not be returning, and would NOT recommend a visit to anyone. We're shocked it's still open.

We paid £6.30 and it took 20 mins to walk around. It's taken 15 years to nearly complete the village. It was very pretty, but it isn't worth the travel. Luckily I only came from the local area, so wasn't to far. I feel the price was a bit much, for what we got.

I visited Pendon with a friend and her 9 year old grandson on Easter Sunday. We parked on site without any problem. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to explain what was going on with the workings of the trains and answered all of our questions. The Vale scene was particularly thought provoking for me as some of the buildings modelled are there in the Vale of White Horse to this day and can be viewed in real life. My friend's grandson had an audio guide and a quiz which kept his interest going for the whole of the visit. When he handed in the results of the quiz he was given a fridge magnet and a crème egg which made his eyes sparkle! We had a drink in the café before leaving. It was a most enjoyable visit - one which will be repeated before too long I am sure.

This sounds harsh but all I'll say is that our 6 year old son, after 20 minutes, said "is that it?" he isn't that demanding either. model trains weren't running. sincere apologies to the person who spent their time making the exhibits but pants! sorry!

Living locally I visited Pendon today as it is over ten years since my last visit. I was very impressed. The models - both trains and buildings are really good. Great for model enthusiasts and photographers but also for families.

Locals please note Pendon will have a stand at the Appleford 175 Fete on 15th June.
Visit the Museum and bring a camera.

Abit out of the way but worth seeing. Scenery and models are fantastic. Staff very polite and very knowledgeable. One negative bit its cost £7.50 each (adults) to get in which i thought was very pricey.

There are 3 scenic dioramas. One historic one in which the train only works on special occasions. The other two have working railways but for me the one on the first floor, which is massive, is a phenomenal landscape with marvellous village scenes depicting Cotswold village life in 1920s. The Volunteers are very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to.
Refreshments available.
A very pleasant couple of hours.

We love this place. We are model railway enthusiasts and have been before on a couple of occasions but there is always something new to see. The people who run it are passionate about the exhibition and nothing is too much trouble. No doubt we will keep coming back.

Thank you all for your dedication, skill and hospitality.

This museum of rural life in miniature recreates the Vale of the White Horse (Oxfordshire) in incredible detail. Built over a period of 60 years of dedication by its founder. The museum is now housed in a purpose built building. This was my first visit, spending over 2hours there I would certainly go back again. Recommended

Excellent and unique ‘museum’. Static and working train layouts extremely well presented and of interest to all ages. On going works on the main layout i.e the ‘Vale of The White Horse’ with the scale models of existing and buildings from the recent past is fascinating and there is usually a model maker on hand to provide insights if you’re interested. Well worth frequent visits as the work evolves.
