Diksam plateau has the densest concentration of the iconic dragon blood trees on the island. This makes it a truly unique place in all the world. The canyon you go down and then back up to reach would be worth it just on its own, both for the visit and the extreme-4WD-commercial like road that crosses it.

Bare, drear but romantic yet. We spent a night there. My guide bought a young goat from the beduins and that was cooked. The night was one of the most remarkable of my life. Diksam Plateau is in lack of any light pollution hence the sky was fantastic. I never seen so many stars, I've seen the spiral arm of Milky Way and also seen the Andromeda. I was nearly crying to see such kind of beauty in the middle of nowhere.
In the morning I had time watch around and examed the Dragon Blood Tree. It is a very special species, the Dracena tree its closest relative and I discovered some similarity but have to say, this is one of the most special plant I've ever seen in my life.

Sleeping in a tent on Diksam is not a dream. The soil is very-very rocky hard to find a good place to install the tent. The night can be unpleasant especialy you spent the previous night on the beach. The temperature goes down under 16 degrees, fortunately my leather jacket was with me.
The place is in lack of any kind of bathing facility, no shower, no toilette.

This is the place to see these huge trees, and may be have a meal under the shades of one of them, if you plan to buy the dragon blood tree powder, then buy it from the locals here, cheaper than the market price.
Have a look at the valley, majestic breath taking views that will stick in the memory.

The location is simply stunning, with hundreds of Dragon Blood Trees all over the plateau. They are immediately associated with Socotra and the view of tens of them together is incredible.
Kids from the village will run at you to sell frankincense and dragon blood tree powder, 500 rials for a tiny bag of them.
After taking many pics, I decided to have some fun and invited the kids to play with my mobile: they went absolutely crazy for it, it was very funny to watch. Then they asked for the inevitable "sura" (picture) together.
It is a great spot to have a picnic also, in the shade of one of the trees so if you can go for it.

If you want to enjoy a sea of Dragon blood trees this is the place to go. It is amazingly beautiful both at sunrise and sunset, but also during the day.

We stopped several times on our way through and each moment was enjoyable!

First, lunch under a dragon blood tree - our first experience. The birds were surrounding us as well, but not overwhelmingly so. They were still cautious ;)

Second, a stop at the archeological site where they are studying and growing dragon blood trees. So amazing that all the ones you see are 2000-3000+ years old. There are None on the island that are in the 'hundreds'. The ones growing for study are in between 10-30 years and they look more like an agave plant or aloe plant - a small shrub. Amazing what they turn into thousands of years later.

Diksam Plateau is an extensive area in the center of Socotra. There are areas (often right next to canyons) that are thick with dragon blood trees; there are others that are sweeping plains of limestone. Sheer and austere, this is a spectacular place.

This is where you can see thousands of Dragon Blood Tree...We spent our day in this place, had picnic under that majestic giant tree, went hiking to Daerhu fresh water pool.To us,this place seriously looks like a dinasour land.My opinion, you should not skip Diksam even if you already see dragon blood tree in Homhil, because the landscape between those two places are different.Yes there will be the same highlight(the trees) but seriously the environment and experience are different.
