Great outdoors!
Oct 2021
We stayed in one of the lodges, which houses up to 10 people, and we were very happy. Yes, the standard is very basic, but you don‘t go there to spend much time indoors, really. You have so many options for the outdoors, and the lodge offeers enough spacce to get together, cook, play games and watch TV together. So, while this is not a luxury site, it offers all I wantt when I go to an outdoor place, which to me warrants 5 stars. We will definitely come again!

Great campsite with fun activities
Sep 2021 • Family
I’m surprised with low scores of previous comments because in my opinion the place deserves more than that. We found our stay very enjoyable. We were camping on the forest side of the centre in a dog friendly area. We had all what we needed if not more for a short weekend away. We came back home with our “batteries” fully charged. The campsite was well looked after with the toilet and shower facilities spotless clean. There was a lovely cafe and a shop available if needed. The choice of activities for both adults and kids was very big - from a tree top trail, archery, climbing wall, zip wire to kayaking on the nearby lake. Something for everyone. The campsite was quiet, relaxing and spacious. Definitely we will be back there soon.

*Huge thanks to our male tree top trail instructor for motivating us along the way and making sure we had a great experience - he is a credit to the company (sorry I’m not sure about his name but I believe it could be Alex).*

We were on a field (complete with holes and lumps, no pretence at being even vaguely level) which could easily accommodate 50 caravans/tents and therefore potentially 200+ people. There was only one shower block with 5 showers and 5 toilets. These were perpetually dirty as no sooner were they cleaned than dirt/dust was tracked in by people needing to use them.
There was also an Eco loo, which is a great idea in principle, but not when the smell wafts over the campsite and the door makes an awful noise when being opened and closed (I really felt sorry for the lady camped next to it).
There was no clear delineation between pitches; if using electric hook-up, there was a bit of a clue, but people not using EHU could pitch anywhere they liked: the middle of the field, squished between two EHU pitches, wherever took their fancy.
There is a small goal set up, which my nephew made use of with some other kids, but unfortunately the divider between the football area and the field for camping is a gorse bush that's about 8' thick - no chance of getting into it to retrieve a ball (My nephew, me and my husband all tried and had the scratches to prove it!). Who on earth thought a gorse bush was a good idea to use as a barrier where kids play?
The bike trails shown on the park map are also the access routes for vehicles to get to the camping fields, so there's people on bikes competing for space with vehicles of all sizes on a narrow, twisty, uneven road.
The food from the cafe was very poor quality. The lady working in the cafe was lovely, but was struggling on her own to do all the cooking (microwaving) whilst also taking orders and making the drinks. Overpriced for what it was.
The shop was a joke; poorly stocked and VERY expensive: £1.25 for a single box of cereal from a "Variety Pack" (£1.49 for 8 in Tesco) is just outright profiteering, thankfully we'd bought our own supplies to get started and then found a local supermarket.
Quiet time is posted as 11pm - 7am, which was generally observed, but I was amazed at the number of apparently feral kids rampaging around the campsite in the pitch dark, shrieking and screaming (and I mean kids, not teenagers/young people). I was equally surprised at the people in tent next to us smoking dope, morning and evening (we reported them, as it's totally inappropriate behaviour on a family campsite!).
The site is directly under the flightpath for Bournemouth Airport, so be prepared for planes and helicopters buzzing overhead from around 6am till around midnight.

Nice campsite

We had a great stay here! We stayed on the lake side plot. We had a electric hook up so had a Pre allocated pitch. Luckily we were an end plot as the ones next to each do not have a lot of space between them. The centre itself has a lot of activities but you have to be 8+ to do most of them so we did not. We would come back again when both of our kids could join in. The rest of the plot is a find your own area and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around and didn’t feel too crowded. There are only a few toilets and showers in the block. They could do with a bit of extra cleaning. And at better times! One morning at 7.45 I waited half an hour for a shower as the block was closed for cleaning. Silly time as that’s when everyone is starting to get up and get ready. Good little shop with bits and bobs that you have forgotten. Although £4 for ice is a bit much! Lovely walk around the lake. We will go back and I would recommend but I would say for kids age 8+.

Clean and friendly
Aug 2021
We camped here with our 3 children ages 14, 11 and 8. We were situated in the non electric pitch ( for my sins, never again), the pitch was called glade camping. It was a small area with about 8 other tents but there are no limitations to space so if the people before you take lots of room , you’ll be on top of your neighbour.
Toilets are quite far from the area, so night time loo runs seem a chore but it’s all part of it.
If you want to book for the kids to do activity’s this needed to be done prior to arrival. There is a lovely walk around the lakes with the dog that we liked in the evenings.
Staff are friendly, shop doesn’t sell much. We decided one evening to buy some Pizzas as it was raining and our last night. My husband ordered them and we went for a walk to return and they hadn’t been finished. The poor girl was the only one on this cafe, it was pouring with rain and everyone decided to get pizzas ( one group ordered 9). We got our pizzas soooo late and they was not cooked but my husband felt so bad for the girl in cafe that he just took them as he’d already witnessed the poor girl getting shouted out. So the site either need to employ more staff to help during raining summer holidays or there should be a plan of certain amount of orders per person or something.
We didn’t use the other facilities on site we used it more as a base. There is so much around this area that are just a short drive away.
Local supermarket is either Waitrose or Sainsbury’s which is on the ringwood approx 5 miles from site.
We would go back but would only have a electrical pitch ( my choice as it was so cold at night and once we did the walk of shame to the toilet in the night it was very hard to get warm).
Ohh and there’s a baby owl that makes a lot of noise at night 😅

Great activities and lovely campsite
Aug 2021 • Family
This is our second visit and we have enjoyed our time here again. It's set up for families but there are groups here. There are lots of young families here enjoying the park and climbing facilities.
Regarding noise, we have found that the place goes quiet around 11pm although you can hear some people talking quietly as noise seems to travel. We are in the 'Escape' part and this is a lovely area under the trees to one side.
The facilities are good and the activities are excellent. The cycle tracks are perfect for teenagers. I like the fact we can have a fire 🔥 off the ground. It makes a difference in the evenings.
My only request is that the cafe opens every day. It is only open 5 days in August.

If you want a quiet holiday away from all the noise then this place isn't for you. If you are happy to have families playing in the background and free range children then this is for you.

Great place to escape with family and friends. We had an awesome time with two large groups totalling 30 people - a mixture of adults and teenagers.
We particularly loved the bike riding and the convenience that everything at Avon Tyrell was within reach.
The views are spectacular with landscape views from our log cabin. We woke up to the sound of birds singing and spent quality time enjoying the countryside, visiting local attractions with family and friends. We enjoyed chilling with friends around a campfire.
Would highly recommend as a way to escape the city and enjoy the New Forest.

so it's currently midnight and I'm unfortunately camping here. There's a large group of young men drunk having a bonfire in the shared BBQ area ten feet from my tent shouting at the top of their voices. Another huge group have finally turned off their gangster rap music and stopped screaming and singing. I called security but nothing has seemed to have been done. Supposed to be staying another night but will be leaving tomorrow. Easily the worst camp site I've ever stayed at period.

Dear guest, Many thanks for your feedback. we're sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations and that you experienced a level of noise disruption during your stay with us. As i'm sure you're aware from when you checked in, we do have a guest code of conduct that we expect all our guests to adhere to and unfortunately, on this occasion, this was not the case with a couple of groups. Having caught up with the on call support and Duty Manager from the weekend, we have been made aware that the noise was an issue, but that it did stop after the groups had been spoken to. The Duty Manager also spoke to guests the following day to ensure it did not happen again and spoke to the other guests to apologise, but did not come across any further complaints. We completely understand that this was not the case for you, so if you would like to get in touch and provide a more detailed account of your stay, dates of visit and where you were located on site, we can investigate this further to try and avoid this happening again. Please email info@ukyouth.org We are sorry that the actions of a few guests ruined your visit and hope that you will consider visiting Avon Tyrrell again in the future. Best wishes

4 nights: post lockdown. Great campsite
Aug 2020 • Family
Booked 4 night break and found by accident. Unsure what was going to be open due to COVID however managed to book activities on line beforehand; strongly advises as due to equipment legislation activities are limited.
We booked bike hire, archery and treetop
Challenge. Excellent value and really enjoyable. We were in lakeside east and despite a little walk down the field to the shower block we were happy being in the back corner. Eco Loo is mid way in the field and other toilets by bike hire. Escape area is very small and so would be ideal for a group of 3/4 tents. Field was quite large, and fully booked but plenty of space. Shame cafe not open and no food vans visiting; but we managed! 15 mins to large supermarkets; Lidl, Sainsbury’s and restaurants and take always. Really helpful and friendly staff. Would visit again
