We were not particularly impressed perhaps because of the weather
Oct 2018 • Couples
We arrived at the main gate and having paid, took the shuttle bus up to the smaller park area, hurtling at breakneck speed up the narrow roads. At our destination, we walked down about 300 steps into the valley with fine views, especially of the pagoda on the other slope of the valley. At the end of the path we found ourselves at the foot of a stairway leading upwards past a series of impressive grottos and rock carvings. At the top (the steps were less of a challenge than we feared) and at the top there is a downward sloping road back to the bus park. Perhaps because it was a dull, rainy day we did not find this part of park very impressive.
We caught the bus back down, and it stops halfway for access to the larger temple complex and many got off to go up to see them. Unfortunately it was the end of a very tiring day and we didn’t have the energy to attempt this. (Other reviews describe this complex)

Historical Treat

I thought this might just be a trip to the countryside but how wrong I was. It was ever so quiet (we picked a day when there were only 6 or so other visitors but if it was crowded then maybe no to nice). The temples were serene and beautiful. Loved the huge golden Buddha. Loved the path to the monastery and the views. A stick scares off the monkeys. Worth the effort.

Another great ancient Shibao Pagoda

This is a Stone Treasure Fortress along the Yangtze River. It is a gorgeous pagoda built on a hill along the bank of the Yangtze River and it has many legends and stories behind the completion of the pagoda.

Walk to red temple
Apr 2017 • Couples
It's an easy nice walk from old town to the mountain - most guesthouse provide a basic map. The view is nice and the red temple is a nice place to enjoy a packed lunch.

You can go further up, but it started to rain while we were there.

For nature lovers, but beware of the monheys and excessive entrance ticket
Apr 2016 • Family
Shibaoshan is one the sacred mountains in China and we saw very few tourists while there. Some of the sites are truly beautiful and it would be worth staying for at least a day to trek in these unspoiled mountains where nothing has changed for centuries and which are well preserved. However beware that the entrance ticket is expensive and they will ask you to pay for a shuttle bus on top of it, so each person was around 120 RMB at least, and also one of the temple was full of monkeys and they were quite aggressive (used to tourists giving them food I guess).
