Bored with all the chateaus, vineyards and churches of France?

If you are looking for something very different and unique this is worth a visit. The site is open to the public for free - which is a statement in itself - and consists of 4,500+ works of art from 70 different artists. Its main ideas seem to be about ‘sticking it to the man’, raging against the machine, protesting the fat cats of society and cursing the environmental damage to our planet. At least that’s what I took away from it. There's some hard hitting statements (most are in French) scattered throughout the museum that make one reflect on the world we live in and have created. It won't be to everyone's tastes because it seems pretty far out but in today's world I thought its statements were very relevant and perceptive. There is certainly a LOT to digest!

It's very interesting and as one's eyes (and feet) roam over the whole place, one can only admit that it's done with care, a certain ammount of precision and with good quality products.

This 'museum' is totally designed to send messages: anti-establishment, 'occupy' style, 'green' messages, you name it and it's there. It's controversial and meant to shock. Physically it's an eye sore hence it's name La Demeure du Chaos.
The owner (who by the way, is immensely wealthy) is in constant legal battle with his neighbours which is very understandable. Surprisingly it's become one of Lyon's top attraction.
We happened to be passing near there and our friends from Lyon thought we should see it and it was OK, especially that it was free. However, i would not go out of my way to see it.
If you're a fan of Michael Moore you'll like it!

most people visit lyon and never see this place...we saw it with our lyonnaise friends on a cold and rainy day, and thought it was the most unique museum we had ever seen...if you are on the liberal side, you will surely have a great time...even if your political passions run to the conservative side, you will still enjoy the creativity of this place...don't miss it!

I am not sure how many villages there are in France, but each and every one of them should give thanks that they, unlike St Romain au Mont D'Or, do not have an eyesore like La Demeure de Chaos in their midst. I am not sure which is worse, its overblown artistic pretensions or its boringly repetitive art. Perhaps it's because I have never seen such an hideously inappropriate setting for such 'art' that I feel so affronted by it. It might be more suited as the setting for an extremely bad horror movie where at the end the villagers rise up with their pitchforks and flaming torches and raze the place to the ground. Obviously the villagers of St Romain are not going to do that, but I am surprised that they haven't rushed off to their local hypermarket to buy tins of whitewash and magnolia paint. I wish them every success in their legal battle to get this abomination removed!

I came with a group of friends in an extremely hot weather - and upon our arrival, very good care was taken of us. We were offered cold drinks or ice cream and when we recovered from travelling in the heat, we had a guided tour. It was very interesting and the place is unbelievable! I was very impressed. If you are in the area, you must come and see it.

This is an outdoor contemporanean art museum with a different environment. The author create a semidestructed place where you can feel the beauty in the lot of messages against the actual system. You can get there by taking bus line 43 from Gare de Vaise. I takes 25min by bus and then 5min walking from St. Romain stop. The museum is for free and it just opens on weekends and some holidays. Very recommendable if you stay in Lyon not just for 2-3 days.

Went for a Hike up Saint Cyr Mont's D'or and this was by the car park so we went by. Its quite a bizarre place and I did not really enjoy it but at least I can say I have been. It's free and there are numerous explanation brochures so if you want to do something why not, but it just looks like someone throwing away money to me.
