We are facility to enjoy Japanese culture at old zen temple in Miyajima, where you'll also find a beautiful Japanese garden that changes its colors seasonally. There's no charge for viewing the garden so feel free to walk through the gate. Come and enjoy with us!

We strongly recommend this experience, it was a highlight of our visit to Miyajima.
We had a wonderful afternoon with Mika, Kei, Emi and others. They are very patient, attentive and kind as they graciously share their expertise with you. We developed a more intimate appreciation for the art of Kimono dressing, tea ceremony, calligraphy and cooking. The temple is beautiful, inside and out. They even shared photos with us after the visit - so generous! Enjoy your time here, it is special!

We visited Keiko in May 2018 for Tea ceremony and calligraphy class wearing kimonos. We were the only ones who had booked (Friday 3pm) so we had the full attention of the staff. The staff were very lovely and welcoming. Tea ceremony was superb - we even got to make our own matcha tea which was sublime. Would highly recommend this experience, well worth the price.

We took the set of three Japanese cultural experiences. It was one of the highlights of our 16-day trip to Japan. The ladies were very welcoming and really gave their best to give us an unforgettable experience.
We really recommend this place to anyone visiting Miyajima. It is a real hidden gem.

We entered the house through a beautiful Japanese garden where we were welcomed by our Japanese hosts. After registration, we were given the option to dress in kimono which is clearly a must. Very refreshing and we know understand better why some people prefer this dress during the hot and humid summers.
We started observing the tea ceremony, aiming to drink correctly our cup of matcha tea, which tastes more bitter than usual and at the same time nicely balanced. We proceeded making our own cup of tea, I lost count of the number of sins we must have committed and luckily our hosts were very understanding and atmosphere was very friendly and informal.
Next we were walked to the kanji room, trying to avoid banging into each doorway which are designed for 1m60 tall people..
There is a real pleasure in trying to write kanji with a brush with ink, it transports one back to a manual era of craftwork before we all started swiping phone screens obsessively. We respectively wrote in 4 year old skill level the words "wind" "beauty" and "love" followed by our own names. We were handed over the artworks to take back home in a beautiful holder. We would like to thank our hosts for their patience with our ill manners, and recommend highly this experience. A must!

You should not leave Japan without a okeiko experience! Some in our group said it was better than similar experiences they’ve had in Tokyo and Kyoto. This place is truly special.
All of the staff at okeiko are so wonderful. They patiently and quickly dressed our group of 10 in kimonos and then indulged us in a lengthy photo shoot in their beautiful gardens. We also did a tea ceremony, which was fantastic.
Everything was flawless. This is a wonderful group experience or with just a couple of friends/family. They have English speaking staff. You can book easily online or via email. They were very responsive on email.

We only did the short tea ceremony. We learned the Japanese names of the tools and followed the movements of our guide. It was fun (though challenging for lefties) and the tea tasted very nice. I think the full experience would have been even nicer as you can enjoy more parts of the Japanese culture.

We wished to do something different for our 10th wedding anniversary and went overseas to japan and thought calligraphy writing would be a different and authentic experience. It did not disappoint with kimono wearing, calligraphy style training and practice and signing our own names. They were patient and spoke good english. Something we can frame at home as a great experience and everything we hoped for. Thank you. Matt and Nina

As a family of four, we all agreed that this was one of the highlights of our holiday.
From the moment you arrive and are dressed in full authentic Japanese dress to the moment you are waved off down the street when you leave, this is a high quality, authentic experience.
We enjoyed all three activities, they were perfectly paced and we were taken through the cultural context as well as the practicalities - we were very proud of our calligraphy efforts, relished having a go at making matcha, and enjoyed the food we made.
Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, explaining what we were doing all the way through, and taking loads of pictures for us.
Cannot recommend this too highly.

This was a lovely thing to do whilst on Miyajima. The people at the temple were just so friendly and fun to be around. It was well worthwhile and we can thoroughly recommend it. The dressing up part was the most fun. We took some great video's.

We are a group of 6, 4 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 8.
We are interested but would like to know how long the activities take so that we can plan it into our stay. We were thinking for Sunday 14th at 13:00
