- LolaGo1Washington DC, District of Columbia6,643 contributionsI walked around here when I transferred from the train lines and metro lines. There is no need to go outside as the buidings are connected to each other. There are shops, restaurants, stores, etc where one can shop and eat as long as they want. Not in the travel plans to go shopping, I basically only bought snacks and some refreshments here.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 12, 2024
- Bireswar RMumbai, India60 contributionsNamba Walk is just a typical subway shopping and eating street in Osaka. It's underground, helping passengers to change Metro lines and allows one shopping and eating experiences whether Rain or Shine. That much, nothing more. You do have many such Shopping and Food malls as part of many of Japan's busy Train Stations; Tokyo, Shinjuku, Kyoto, Osaka Station and so on.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 31, 2024

The place is well kept and lighted. Luckily our hotel was located a Exit 23 (along the Midosuji Line) in Namba, Osaka . Just like in Shinjuko (Tokyo)when we were treated to this underground shopping experience, shopping was a breeze as Namba Walk was near our WHG-owned hotel.
We even managed to use this place during the 2 days when it rained as the place is a covered area of about 1 kilometers more or less.

I took this route a few times while using the subway system, generally stopping for a drink, ice cream, and or a little shopping.

This was one of the best things when visiting Osaka in the August. It's a air conditioned underground walk the features about 100 food stalls from sushi, curry, fresh bread, dessert, bento boxes to horai 551 dumplings. If you exit B12 you are at the heart of Dotonburi walk and if you go to the end and exit B5 you are at Kuromon Market. We were lucky enough to stay at a apartment next to this walk. It really was a big help for us because of the really hot and humid summer in Osaka.

A total city underground, with so many stores and services, all leading to different train lines. Reminds Tokyo underground, but in a way, even more impressing. But the unstoppable sounds and sights are sometimes to much for the common person...

Namba walk is a very strategic location due to the train terminal. You don't even have to look for it if you are touring around the city.
As you stroll along, you'll find a lot of interesting shops and eateries.
But, the shops are not 24 hours open.

We got off here from our nara train and decided to walk through the subway to get out. I've never experienced any subway like this. Loads of shops and restaurants and so many exits out onto street level. Perfect place if it's freezing cold Overground.

It's an underground shopping between Namba and Nipponbashi station with a good variety of food selection too. It happens that there is a display of cherry blossoms at the centre part of the shopping street so it was good for taking photos..

This place is huge with over 200 shops and restaurants. The Takashimaya Market and department store is also very large and it is within the Numba Station. The food displays are beautiful and they look fresh. I tried various kinds of delicious salads, baked goods, and local dishes. They are all delicious. Namba Walks is connected to Ebisu shopping and Dontonburi. It is connected to the large Numba Station. If one cares about the local market, where locals shop, one could walk there. There are fresh seafood markets and small restaurants and stalls that sell prepared foods. The soy bean milk is thick and no sugar added. It is smooth like a yogurt drink but not sweet or sour. Non food items like fabrics, household goods, kimono, and clothes are also sold at this market. One could get lost in the Numba Station, but no worry, the station officers are very helpful. I come here nearly everyday since arrival. In fact, I am here now before leaving for home tonight.

Oh my goodness! Namba station....you could spend DAYS in there. If there is ever some big disaster where you have to be locked in some place for days/weeks/years....this is where you want it to be! We had a reasonably loose schedule...I thought so anyway...but I had failed to appreciate that ENTIRE DAYS need to be dedicated just to Japanese train stations! They are HUGE and incredible...and Namba was one of the best. It has super long straight corridors full of cute shops and eateries. You could spend a whole week just working your way around the food offerings. Everytime we went into town we ended up spending an hour minimum trying to prise ourselves out of Namba station! Seriously need to allocate some time to browsing and meandering this place. The station itself has 32 exits....yes....32 EXITS...which should give you an idea of the size. Crazy. In a fabulous way!

What time do the exits in Namba Walk close? Are they open even after the shops and restaurants close at night? I'd like to know if I can use the underground street to access my hotel after 22:00.
Written May 2, 2018
The walk is available as long as trains run. The final trains and subway are about 12am. No problem at 22.

Where is the airport limousine bus stop closest to namba walk?
Written January 17, 2018
It is just next to Namba station, you can ask the local people when you arrived for a clearer direction. But taking subway/train direct from the airport to Namba Walk is easier.

I'm sorry. Although I love Nan-ba,I know very little about the hotels or other facilities for handicapped people.
May be you should stay at classic styled Ryokan in southern
Ue-honmach-6cro-me.
Or North-westOf Kobe(Hanshin)Shin-kaich station;which is convenient both Hanku&Hanshin Railway.ther is a personal managed hotel and very near from Hyogo Ward police station.
Other selection may be "Hotel Max.Chain.in Minatogawa Lib max Kobe,Escal Kobe.
I think too large hotels chains can't correspond enough.
Please ask in very slow English "your hotel have enough barrier free system? To the hotel crews.
I don't remember other solutions anything others.
Nan-ba has too many hotels for visitors alone. So you should avoid to stay this region If you aren't alone.

Is travelling to Kyoto and Nara convenient by public transport e.g. Trains/bus from The Namba walk?
Written June 10, 2015
If you go to Nara from
Namba、It's quite easy by taking the Express or Rapid Express of Kintetsu Railway.(fare only, express fee isn't needed.)
Each of railway service costs under 40minutes.
On the other hand, JR line is inconvenient except if you'll get to Hou-Ryuu-Ji-Temple or Iga -Ueno-Nin-Ja.
Iga is the part of Mie prefecture, which is the district of To-Kai,So not far from Central Airport. or Nagoya.
If you'll go to Kyoto,Please take the subway for Kita-Senri or Takatsuki-city、and transfer at Awaji、whose opposite lane's train for Kawaramachi:Get off at Sai-In-Shi-Jou.Three stations behind of Destination:Gion:Kinkaku-Ji Temple and Kitano-Tenman-guu-Shrine and Nijou-Jou(castle)…these are nearest. Arashiyama Line is the branch from Katura Station.
If you want to take Keihan Railway,You should transfer
at Kitahama.which is famous for financial town.
Keihan-Railway may be better than Hankyu if you'll go to Uji (Be famous for Japanene green tea) or South-Eastern Kyoto Prefecture.
By the way.Amano-HashiDate is about 60miles far from the central of kyoto City.
