Beautiful cool & tranquil sanctuary on a hot Tokyo day. Gardens are meticulously kept, lots of birds and insects plus the plants and trees were in excellent condition. A really lovely retreat from the hubbub of the town

大田黒公園@荻窪。2018年はだいぶ遅いですね。もうライトアップが始まっていて、今年は12月2日まで。まだまだ人は都内では少ない方ですが、夜がオススメです。
This is the Otaguro park in Ogikubo. There are many autumn leaves, but not so many people bisit here. The trees lighted up only this week.2018 is from 23rd November to 2nd December. You have to walk 10 minutes from Ogikubo station.

The parc is nice anytime of the year, the lighting in November/early December is very beautiful.
The entrance with the two lines of Ginko is also nice. It is from far the most pretty parc in Ogikubo but it's not the right place to play with small children.

A lovely tranquil garden in Tokyo. Away from the main tourist attractions this is well worth visiting.

Otaguru Park is actually a Japanese garden, but as a city ward facility the word they use is "park" as it is for tax paying residents first and foremost rather than a "tourist attraction". Nevertheless, it is brilliant in October/November with a long line of gingko trees along the entrance path, what it is most famous for. There is also a pond garden and pavilion, brilliant with maples in late Nov and early Dec. It has been listed in my book "Hidden Gardens of Japan" available from Amazon Japan and Kinokuniya USA.

This garden is small but has its characteristics. Throughout the year you can enjoy the quiet setting of the garden but the best season is autumn. The garden is covered with full of red maple leaves and you would not believe that you are in Tokyo but somewhere in the middle of valley.
