What a iconic landmark of Tokyo .
First of I must say I have not been up in the tower , only seen it from outside and of course the best view for a photo is at a distance.
During our time in Tokyo over the last week or so we have viewed it many times from different locations .
When out walking it can be used as a focal point to where you are .
A great construction.

The Skytree is the tallest building in Tokyo providing superb views, particularly if the sky is clear. When the weather is cloudy, the top of the tower is often invisible from the ground and these days are best avoided when planning the Skytree visit. The ticket is rather expensive, though, and if you want to economize, you could try visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku instead. It is not nearly as tall as the Skytree, but it is completely free of charge and if the weather is good, you can still see even Mt. Fuji from there as well.

We visited the Skytree around dusk which gave us the opportunity to see the city both in daylight and then dark, with all its lights shining.

As the second tallest tower in the world, the Skytree dominates the skyline of northern Tokyo. I luckily had great weather and went up an hour before sunset so I could see the city in the day and night time. I also booked tickets in advance and as an overseas visitor could take advantage of the fast-track option (paying a little more) to skip the very long regular queue. The architecture is fascinating and the elevator ride also very rapid. There are two levels and the second lift connecting them had a glass ceiling. Wonderful views over the Tokyo and for miles in all directions, the only slight disappointment was the Mt Fuji couldn't be seen due to cloud in that direction. All in all a must-do experience.

The place is literally a tourist trap and when I say “trap” I mean you’ll be lining up the whole way through, and would just feel trapped inside with how slow those lines move.

My partner and I tend to book our tickets in advance for most of the attractions we go to in case it ever gets sold out, but apparently there’s no need to for Tokyo Skytree as they will continue dispensing tickets for as long as there are people in line. This is despite the fact that the tower is already full of so many people.

To get the Skytree, we were asked to fall in line for the elevator which takes around 15-20 minutes. By the time we got up, there was barely any space for us to actually enjoy the view. What’s worse is we bought the ticket that allowed us to go a few floors higher, which we also needed to line up for. Again, by the time we reached the very top, we were already so exhausted.

The line for the elevators is even worse, because you just want to finish the whole thing. Worst money I ever spent in Japan. The Shibuya SKY deck is so much better—cheaper AND there’s crowd control.

I am writing this review as I wait in line for the elevator to the ground floor. I’ve been queueing for the past 2 hours, as have the other ~700 people tightly packed around me. It truly is the biggest tourist trap I’ve ever been to.

At Tokyo Skytree you will get to experience a wide range of queues. First there is the ticket queue. As I had purchased mine in advance on the web, I only had to wait 30 minutes in line to trade my web ticket for a physical one.

After you get a hold of the ticket itself, you can move on to the second course: the elevator line. There, you’ll come to appreciate the previous queue for its reasonably open spaces. The cramped corridors make it so you’ll get to intimately know your surrounding neighbors (as they’ll get to know you).

The fact there are 4 elevators helps speed things up a bit, and there is a momentary happiness when you finally arrive at the tower deck. But it lasts far too little. The mass of people is too much for the air conditioning to handle, so now you’re in a cramped AND stuffy room.

And because everything that goes up must come down, thus begins the slow shuffle towards the exit elevator.

This final 1 hour queue will take you on a 360 trip around the deck, where the full view of Tokyo taunts you with all the cool places you could be enjoying. But instead you are here, stuck in a mass of people with no end in sight.

I could almost kiss the ground when we finally arrived Bottom line: avoid at all cost. Go explore Nakamise-Dori street instead.

I wish I had read the earlier reviews first before deciding to go to this place. You'd spend 90% time in line rather than having good experience and enjoying aerial views of the magnificent city i.e. Tokyo. My advice - don't bother.

From the outside, this thing is an architectural marvel. Once we got in, I was a bit disappointed with the experience. It's an absolute tourist trap. The lines were really long and the price to get a birds eye view of Tokyo was ok, I guess. There's not much to do once you get to the viewing platforms. You even have to pay extra to go to the 450m level (we only did up to 350m) You walk around, you look at the insane density of Tokyo from above and you leave. There are other places in Tokyo where you can get a good view of Tokyo from above for free (Government Metropolitan Building in Shinjuku).

This is one of those things you do once when you're in Japan and then forget about it.

We were unable to get in 10 yrs ago due to 5 hour wait so on return we were very excited, on a “ quiet “ midweek morning…..
The walk up queue was said to be 40 mins so we scanned a QR code and bought online for a timed entry , We then were directed to wait In the same line as the walk ups to exchange our codes for tickets!
Then queue for the lifts .
Lifts not scenic just crammed.
We only bought Tembo deck tickets ( by mistake) not deck and galleria combo tickets but this was for the best as further queues ensued to go up 1 extra level. And back down again)
The view is good I suppose but not really worth the hassle in what is really an enormous shopping mall.
We visited whilst waiting to check in to our room in Asakusa ( no early check ins in Japan!) and we’re glad we didn’t make it a planned activity by itself, so much more to do in Tokyo!

I think everyone should go up here once; it is a bit of a tourist cliche, but the view is amazing.

To get here I took the train from Asakusa to the Skytree station. At the Skytree, lineups were not too long, and the cashiers were efficient so the line moved quickly. I went up to both the 345 m and the 450 m level, and for me the additional cost to the upper level was money well spent as there is a noticeable difference in the view from the upper level.

After visiting the upper level, I came down to the 345 m level and had supper at the cafe (hamburger steak with egg, rice, salad, and cheesecake), which was an nice way of extending the visit to watch the sunset in a comfortable setting. Food was good, and the price was acceptable for this type of setting.

We went there because I think it’s a must-do when in Tokyo! We bought the combo ticket and were able to go to both floors!

When up there you can see everything with a 360° view and whole Tokyo is visible to you!

If you go: absolutely buy the tickets in advance, which in the end will save you around 1000yen! Online it was around 2300 but we paid 3300yen because we didn’t book in advance.

I think the combo ticket is not really necessary, even though it was cool to see. The most time you’ll spend is on the 350th floor and the view will seem a little mesmerizing when on the top floor sadly… At least that’s my opinion!
