Not so long ago the Akasaka and Roppongi areas were famous for their nightlife, high-class restaurants, bars and clubs. More recently, with the opening of Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown and Akasaka Sacas, the area has declared itself as the most fashionable spot to be seen. The area also hosts the National Art Center and the Mori Art Museum and lots of trendy art galleries.

Went there during a short walk around Roppongi. There was an exhibition, but due to time constrain, only managed a quick visit to the shop. Although small, but the design is nice and situated in a lovely neighborhood.

I'm not a bug person, so wasn't sure I would enjoy the Insects: Model for Design exhibition, but I couldn't have been more wrong. I was captivated from the very beginning. Who doesn't love a larger than life millipede!! Everything was so well conceived and presented in a thought provoking way. I could have stayed for hours.

The musuem building itself is a beautiful work of art. It blends seamlessly into the serene park surroundings and draws you into. Schedule extra time to enjoy the outdoors and well as the indoor activities.

Quirky but elegant, the 21-21 Design Sight creates a full display of Ando's talent. The exhibits are really secondary to the intellectual and chic architecture.

We visited this museum in the very period when there was a special exhibition in one of their galleries entitled 'Insects: Models for Design'. It was an exhibition of extraordinary images. Insects were enlarged, were displayed in a multitude of ways and were made beautiful and appealing. It was something very worth seeing.

This architecturally stunning museum is such an unexpected treat in Tokyo. Architecture everywhere in the city is amazing, but 21 21 is a surprise. The small museum highlights the delight the Japanese take in art. They do not overwhelm and take joy in relative small, specialized exhibits. The architecture alone is worth the visit, but the restaurant was fanastic!!

Beautiful designed settings and building. This time there was a exhibition on insects and their mechanics. Their colours, how their wings fold, but also how a claw of a beetle can be a bottle opener. Basically how the anatomy of insects can be a design inspiration.

This museum makes for a nice, relaxing spot to spend an afternoon, given that it's located within a park close to the Roppongi area.

The space has three galleries - at the time of visit, there was a Sense of Humor exhibition occupying two galleries and Japanese comic artist Yoji Kuri exhibition occupying one gallery.

This building is a must visit for architecture enthusiasts, particularly those that follow Tadao Ando's works. The exhibitions here are curated by three directors, one of whom is fashion designer Issey Miyake.

Love the architecture of this building. The exhibit was good, and includes a ping pong table which you can play on. Combo of prints, film, objects and sculptures keep the interest high. I’m not sure I found things as humourous as the artist but it was still worth visiting. Plus the park nearby is spectacular. Beautiful walkways just beside the kids playing area with a pond and stream. Gorgeous.

This Ando designed museum has interesting exhibits - the current one is on handcrafts that are done by artisans. The charming park is great for a stroll. The small space next door has an exhibit of bags and fabrics by Issey Miyake. Next to Roppongi mid-town mall which is also worth a visit. 1 days excursion insludes the Mori tower, walk over to the Tokyo Art Museum and the Neze Museum.
