Private Tour - The City of Culture, Roppongi

Get to know Roppongi through its cultural aspects.

Roppongi is known to be one of Japan's leading downtown areas. It is generally famous for its night scene, but there are also many wonderful places to visit if you want to see art, fashion or great views of Tokyo, or if you want to eat good food. There is so much to do in Roppongi that you could easily spend a whole day wandering around town.

On this tour you will visit a Japanese garden, a craft shop and a shopping mall packed with shops of leading fashion brands. You will also visit places best enjoyed after sunset, such as an izakaya tavern and an observation deck to enjoy Tokyo's night views. As this tour covers so much, it is recommended for those craving for a good taste of Tokyo.

Lots of high end stores or fine dining restaurants. This place was alive and bustling in the run up to Christmas. A majestic light show display and infinite santa display were fabulous.

Took a little walk before dinner at Union Square. Many high-end stores and good supermarket in the basement. Also like to speciality store that sell sauce and hot pot broth base in B1. Nice place to walk around and have a meal. But not cheap at all!

Great spot for lunch, with lots or pre-prepared fresh food. Good cafes to chill and relax. Shopping is high end but there is a Uniqlo on site. Supermarket as well.

Picking up my daughter in Tokyo from her Tokyo trip and extending it we were happy to find a hotel just around the corner of Tokyo Midtown, a well known mixed use development. Most interesting for the traveller is the Galleria" part of it. A not too large mall extending from Basement 1 - there connecting to all towers and Roppongi Metro station - to level 3. The mall is by positioning "high end" to "affordable luxury". The interior design is calming, soothing even and of very high quality. Great to see such quality design and workmanship but after all, it is Japan. Japanese elements in the design are sublte but recognizable - i.e. the lanterns at the shop partitions. Interior design of the individual shop is equally simple and uses natural materials and colors. Midtown must have a very good and strict tenancy guideline contributing well to this appearance. Apart from fashion - high end, sport and not "too fast fashion" a lot of beauty product shops are present - i had to visit quite a few of them with my daughter. Interior design / decoration shops for homes are also quite few available, exhibiting and selling the most beautiful japanese artinsans work. Notable for me as a foodies and kitchen knife aficionado wwas one shop with Japanese kitchen knifes only. Heaven it was, though a rather unaffordable one too for the higher quality knifes. Neverthless quite impresssive the effort which is going into these artisanal and highly traditional masterpieces. There was quite a mix of find dining restaurant from L1 to L3 in the parkside end of the mall. At B1 the food outlets allowed to shop - fish and (wagyu) meat - and dine behind the counter. A number of international bakeries were present at B1 and L1, namely Le Pain quotidien (my daily pain (hahaha) and Eric Kaiser. Ntoably Eric Kaiser offered there much more and much better baked product than in his HK shop in Wan Chai. The Supermarket at B1 has a very good offer of quality food and drinks, readymade cooked food as well as fresh. A good source for any traveller to get his provisions. The park next too and behind Midtown is beautifully landscaped and quite relaxing. It offer the 21-21 designsight gallery designed by Tadoa Ando, one of the greated Japanese architects and ex professional boxer. Worth a visit too.

Amazing place to spend the afternoon and take a stroll around. Lots of eateries, shops and other entertainment in one little area. Mainly locals, so not very touristy. Great spot to take a date too.
