The area
Neighborhood: Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.

Vegan Japanese cooking class
Aug 2019 • Friends
Amazing class!! It was great to have the opportunity to not only eat vegan Japanese food in great quality but also to be able to make it on my own. After class we receive the recipe and also let us know which ingredients can be used instead of those in the recipe. This advice really helps after getting back to my hometown. Teachers are really kind and nice! I would like to visit this class again when I visit Japan (:

A wonderful experience
Aug 2019 • Solo
Teachers were welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. I attended the class solo which can be intimidating for some people. However the atmosphere is very friendly so come alone or in a group. The cooking level was designed for anyone to be able to cook no matter their ability. They took special care to create recipes with ingredients you can find (or something similar) in your home country so that you can actually re-create what you learned in class.

Fell is love with Vegan Ramen and Gyouza
I attended the workshop where Rina explained all about Vegan Ramen and Gyouzas. It was such an informative workshop, I learned so much about the vegan products available in Tokyo. Also, the Ramen soup is one of the best soup I have tasted so far, and I am all ready to prepare it on my own. I will totally recommend this workshop to all vegan lovers 👍😊

Vegan/halal gyoza and ramen class
Jul 2019 • Solo
Yesterday was my second time taking a class with bentoya.
As usual, Rina san demonstrated clearly the steps to cook our food. She also explained the ingredients and what substitutes could be used for some ingredients that might be difficult to find outside Japan.

The vegan ramen was exceptional. I’ve been to several vegan restaurants in Tokyo and I can say that this was better than the ones sold in those restaurants! And now that i know how to make it, i’ll try recreating the dish back home. Thanks Bentoya!

Cooking in a relaxed environment
Jul 2019 • Solo
I took part in the dan dan men/gyoza cooking class yesterday and it was really good fun. Our group was small, 4 people including myself and the 2 Bento-ya instructors. We were cooking in one of our instructors home so we really had that at-home feeling. It wasn't too rushed and we were able to ask questions about all the ingredients and take photos so we can go to the supermarket and find the ingredients easily. We took turns doing different parts of the cooking and were able to chat and eat lunch together afterwards. Since there were 2 instructors, one kindly took photos of us in action and sent them to us immediately after the class. We were also able to take the recipe sheets written in English so we can re-create the dishes at home. All in all it was a good experience and I would be happy to try some of their other cooking classes.

Amazing cooking class!
Jun 2019 • Solo
Thank you Akikio-san, this was by far the most fun and informative cooking class I have been to. Really great step-by-step explanations, traditional flavours and cooking.
Great to explore how to make Vegan Japanese food, using only plant based ingredients.

Perfect for solo travellers or group parties would be fun. I will definitely be returning

Thank you :)

The best cooking class !
Jun 2019 • Solo
Wonderful cooking class, the best I have ever been to. English friendly, for foreign students too. Instructions and cooking were very clear, but most importantly fun! Will definitely be back again.

Learnt a lot in detail about traditional Japanese flavours, the recipes and food was delicious.

Thank you Akiko-san!

Amazing experience! A must for everyone!

I have participated in one of Bentoya's classes a few months ago while in Tokyo and it was one of the best things I did in Japan. The ramen was delicious and gyoza surprisingly easy to make when you know all the tricks;) I definitely recommend it to everyone, it was so much fun and the teachers were amazingly knowledgable, a must when in Tokyo!

Vegan cooking demonstration
Jun 2019 • Solo
I got the opportunity to visit a vegan cooking class, and as a tourist this was an enlightening demonstration not only because of the Japanese ingredients and style of cooking; but also to compare the Vegan opportunities in Tokyo compared to those in Sweden. In Sweden it’s not a big deal to be vegan and there are lots of cooking substitutes for dairy and meat as well as plenty of options in restaurants. It doesn’t seem to be the case here. Thanks for letting me come and watch!

Vegan Meats Cooking Class

Cool concept class where they partnered with a vegan meat producer. We got to cook with super new products that aren’t even in grocery stores yet! Overall a cool experience and I definitely feel like I picked up some great tips.
