The area
Neighborhood: Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.

Learn to to make vegan gyoza ( Japanese dumplings) and vegan ramen...and taste the fruits of you labor. The atmosphere is very relaxed and enjoyable as you mix with other foreigners, then you are guided through the variety of ingredients and mixture of processes and eventually to the grand finale of tasting... really awesome taste even a non-vegan would enjoy

I honestly had so much fun making vegan sushi, tempura, and ice cream with Rina and Akiko. They were excellent teachers who explain every step thoroughly. The environment was so comfortable that I could ask them any question I had.
I never felt rushed, and it was nice to be able to make some conversation and get to know the other students. I also appreciated getting a packet of recipes for the dishes we made. Everything we made was simple, tasty, and only involved easy to find ingredients. I was actually able to replicate all of the dishes myself at home. I even made vegan sushi with my friends, and it turned out just as good as it did in class.
As a new vegan, I have been struggling with finding tasty recipes. Akiko and Rina made it so easy to cook tasty vegan food, and I am so glad I took their class. Unfortunately, as I don't live in Tokyo, it is difficult for me to attend their other classes, but I truly wish I could. Highly recommended!

I took part in the dan dan men/gyoza cooking class yesterday and it was really good fun. Our group was small, 4 people including myself and the 2 Bento-ya instructors. We were cooking in one of our instructors home so we really had that at-home feeling. It wasn't too rushed and we were able to ask questions about all the ingredients and take photos so we can go to the supermarket and find the ingredients easily. We took turns doing different parts of the cooking and were able to chat and eat lunch together afterwards. Since there were 2 instructors, one kindly took photos of us in action and sent them to us immediately after the class. We were also able to take the recipe sheets written in English so we can re-create the dishes at home. All in all it was a good experience and I would be happy to try some of their other cooking classes.

I have participated in one of Bentoya's classes a few months ago while in Tokyo and it was one of the best things I did in Japan. The ramen was delicious and gyoza surprisingly easy to make when you know all the tricks;) I definitely recommend it to everyone, it was so much fun and the teachers were amazingly knowledgable, a must when in Tokyo!

I enjoyed two different cooking classes with BentoYa Cooking in Tokyo, and they were both excellent, well-organized, easy to understand, fun and delicious. It's not easy to find vegan food in fish-flake-crazed Tokyo, but Rina showed me things worth trying in the supermarket as well as teaching me how to make ramen, gyoza and okonomiyaki. I've already used the ramen recipe at home! It's also worth mentioning that these classes can be in English or Japanese, which is also helpful to visitors like me! I learned so much about the Japanese culture and highly recommend a class here whether you are a vegan or not.

I and a close friend were so excited to get a vegan Japanese cuisine cooking class. Was a not too crowded, relaxed and well detailed stepwise session taken by Akiko. She is fantastic, friendly and very helpful. We learnt gyoza and ramen in the class and ended up eating the whole bowl of ramen and so many gyozas, was delicious. A vegan can’t avoid cooking so if you are here don’t miss the chance to attend a session with Bentoya.

I had an opportunity to participate in bento box cooking workshop during my stay in Tokyo.
I mist say that it was one of greatest cooking workshops I have participated. Akiko’s comments were very motivating to continue look for recepies on my own. There is a very good suporting team that takes care of everyone.
Akikos family has a farm and products that we used came from local garden that gave and extra appreciation.
Highly recommend!

I joined a BentoYa workshop in September to learn some techniques for making great vegan ramen and gyoza.
The lesson was fun and social. Our instructors made sure everyone understood the process and that we all had a go carrying out the different steps.
It was a reassuringly quick and simple meal to make, plus we got print outs of the receipe and example products to look out for. After all finding vegan items in Japan is tricky at present.
A really great afternoon!
