Neighborhood: Odaiba / Shiodome / Shinbashi
Odaiba is an entertainment hotspot with a giant ferris wheel, concert halls, amusement arcades and lots of shopping. It also boasts Oedo-onsen-monogatari, a hotspring that recreates old Edo-era ambiance and is very popular with foreign visitors. Shiodome has ultra-modern office buildings where you can often find restaurants with a great high-rise view of Tokyo. The neighboring area of Shinbashi is a district of much older commercial buildings and it's a great place to join 'salary men' enjoying a drink and snacks at street stalls under the railway bridges after work.

- SPAZIO_INFINITOTurin, Italy2,972 contributionsWandering around the city we decided to stop at the Tokyo Tower. Located in Tokyo, in the district of Minato (Shibakoen district), easily identifiable and accessible on foot and by public transport (the nearest subway station is Kamiyachō). The Tokyo Tower is an orange and white truss steel tower over 330 meters high (a similar fax machine of the French Eiffell Tower), used for telecommunications and as a viewing point for tourists. There are two panoramic terraces, at different heights, accessible by internal lifts. The view is spectacular, you have a 360-degree view of the city of Tokyo, being able to admire large areas of the metropolis. To access both terraces (first and second level) we paid the equivalent of 6000 yen total for two adults paying by credit card. At the exit there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs of all kinds and photos taken by photographers of the Tokyo Tower placed on the panoramic terraces. We chose to buy a photograph made on the second level at a cost of 1500 yen. Suitable for families and couples. Everything clean, tidy and well signposted. Very kind and professional staff who worked in the tower. I recommend it.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2024
- FirstName-3DigitsLos Angeles, California41 contributionsTokyo Tower was the last point of interest I went to on my last day in Japan, capping off a visit that came after the pandemic restrictions were lifted. It held up just as well as it did when I last went. There's not much to say aside from it remained a classic. It was not exactly close to any metro stations but the walk was manageable, the tickets were cheap and unlike Skytree, the queue didn't snake around the entire lobby. If you're looking to do something at sunset, head up the Tower, plug in your curated City Pop playlist and soak it in. Even as new observation decks are opened each year, Tokyo Tower is still one of the prettiest places to view the city from. Also, for goshuin collectors, there is a small shrine that you can get to with the regular ticket and the gift shop at the observation deck sells pre-made goshuin that rotate seasonally. I happily bought both the regular and paper-cut variants that were available.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2024
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada9,396 contributionsWe arrived here just after 1:00 pm and took some good photos of ourselves with the tower but we felt it was too busy when we went to go up to the main deck. The cost to go up is reasonable at 1200 yen per adult but we had just done the nearby Azabudai Hills Mori JPTower Sky Lobby which was free to enter and offers similar views of the city including an excellent view of the Tokyo Tower itself. The Azabudai Hills Mori JPTower is a 12 minute walk away and their Sky Lobby is on the 33 floor. The Tokyo Tower is iconic of Tokyo and we would be more keen to go up to one of the viewing decks if it wasn't too busy. We did get a stamp near the ticket counter which was a nice memento for our visit here. There are a few metro stations nearby the tower and it is relatively easy to get to.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 31, 2024
- ShannonMelbourne, Australia1,167 contributionsAbsolute top attraction value. The attraction is well planned out with experience intervals at each area. I would recommend taking the Top deck ticket as the space is less crowded compared to the main deck and the view from inside the elevator going up and down is outstanding. Compared to the Skytree this attraction was less crowded and had more interactive areas. Recommend reserving tickets a day in advance as time slots are limited, no need to print out paper tickets.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 5, 2024
- Princes of travelParis, France7,726 contributionsOpened at the end of 1958 and inspired by the Eiffel Tower, Tokyo Tower is recognizable among many others with its red and white painting. Two observatories are accessible, one at 145 m and the other at 250 m, reached after using a glass elevator. Access to the main floor is via elevators located in the corner of the base where you can also find several shops. Once there it is a 360° view that awaits you with especially the buildings and adjacent neighborhoods. On a clear day it is possible to see Mount Fuji. Admission is not expensive and we advise you to book your tickets in advance, in order to avoid the queue. The staff is friendly and welcoming, smiling. The windows are cleaned regularly in order to optimize the view and especially remove the fingerprints of delicate visitors. Plan 1 hour visit.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 3, 2024
- Max5365Rome, Italy341 contributionsIt is certainly much lower (or rather, less high...) than the Skytree (333 meters against 634 meters), but we definitely prefer it: we absolutely recommend the option of climbing not only to 150 meters (it costs very little, but among other things you stay lower than various nearby skyscrapers) but to 250 meters, because the view is far better and a "show" is offered (with a program/explanation also in Italian to download with a QR Code) that simulates, in a "secret library", a dialogue between the two "creators" of the tower; the public is also asked to interact - with a little naivety, moreover quite frequent in certain aspects in Japan - with the staff; there is the opportunity to be photographed and a drink is offered. Beautiful elevators, not fast compared to others, with views outside (appreciated by those who do not suffer from dizziness). We really liked the structure, even if it resembles (too much?) the Eiffel Tower. Not cheap tickets for the highest climb (about 19 euros per person).Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 29, 2024
- Jorge F93 contributionsVery good place to have a 360° view of the city of Tokyo. We bought the tickets online, but I didn't see any big advantages since the queue to buy at the venue wasn't that big. The Top Deck tour takes you up to 250m high, which is amazing. I recommend coming before sunset to see the day, the sunset and the lights of the buildings lit, giving a different Impression. I recommend.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 20, 2024
- Benjamin Di'CostaAtlanta, Georgia17 contributionsAs someone with a fear of heights, I was hesitant about visiting Tokyo Tower, but I’m so glad I pushed myself to experience it! The staff were incredibly kind and reassuring, which helped ease my nerves. The elevators felt smooth and secure, making the ride up surprisingly comfortable. Once at the observation deck, I was taken aback by how breathtaking the view was—Tokyo stretches endlessly in every direction, and seeing landmarks from above was truly mesmerizing. There are sturdy railings and enclosed areas, so I never felt unsafe. I even built up the courage to step onto the glass floor section for a quick peek! Overall, Tokyo Tower is an unforgettable experience, even for those who are uneasy with heights. The views, the atmosphere, and the sense of accomplishment after facing my fear made it completely worth it!Visited February 2025Traveled soloWritten February 11, 2025
- Daniel Yoon680 contributionsTokyo Tower offers a fun blend of impressive views, unique attractions, and ahem... 'a little something for everyone.' While it may not carry the iconic weight of the Eiffel Tower, it’s still a fantastic spot for photos, shopping, and experiencing the quirky charm of Tokyo’s entertainment culture. ### Full Review Standing tall against Tokyo’s skyline, Tokyo Tower has a classic charm that’s reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower, with its striking red-and-white structure giving it a distinctly Japanese touch. While it may not quite match the iconic allure of its Parisian cousin, Tokyo Tower is still an impressive sight to behold and looks fantastic on camera, especially with the sprawling cityscape as its backdrop. This landmark is more than just a pretty face, though; it offers a well-rounded experience that’s both entertaining and uniquely Tokyo. The observation decks are a highlight, providing a panoramic view of the city. Inside, the tower hosts a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it more than just a quick photo stop. It’s easy to spend an hour or two here, shopping for souvenirs or grabbing a bite, which makes the experience feel more worthwhile. Tokyo Tower also has its fair share of quirky attractions, which add to its charm. One standout is the Red Tokyo Tower Sky Stadium, an interactive, illuminated space that’s fun and immersive—a great spot to enjoy a unique bit of Tokyo flair. When I visited, the tower was also featuring a collaboration with the anime *Blue Lock* (highly recommended if you’re a fan!), which was a fun, unexpected bonus. This is Tokyo at its best: blending pop culture with iconic landmarks in a way that’s both playful and memorable. Overall, Tokyo Tower is a great stop for anyone looking to experience a mix of nostalgia, vibrant Tokyo energy, and excellent views. It’s a perfect balance of classic and modern Tokyo, and while it might not evoke the same awe as some other landmarks, it’s absolutely worth the visit. I left feeling like I’d experienced a slice of Tokyo’s heart—a blend of culture, commerce, and creativity in one charming tower.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 16, 2025

We planned to visit both Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree, so we specifically chose evening time for Tokyo Tower. Be prepared to be very crowded, but it's worth it. There is also an interactive inside where they will tell you about the structure itself, you can take free photos, and, of course, just slow down a little and enjoy the lights of the huge city.
Despite the fact that many people write that it is not worth it, I am of the opposite opinion :)

The Top Deck Tour is a farce: instead of information, the audio guide gives you Disney-like chatter with no information or background on the city's history. The tour means constant queuing in stuffy air: in front of the lift to the first station on the top deck, in front of the lift to the top deck itself, and twice when going down. A complete waste of time! A visit to the middle deck (half the price!) is completely sufficient!

The tower is worth visiting, but it’s not cheap. We paid 7400 Yen for a top deck tour for two adults and one high school-aged child. We rode up to the top deck from the main viewing deck, in a fancy elevator. In an ante-room, we learned about the two founders of the tower, media mogul, Hisakichi Maeda and architect, Tachū Naitō. It’s a semi-fictionalised story of them getting together to build the tower in the 1950s. Obviously, it’s based on the Eiffel Tower, which was built about 70 years before. And, yes it is fractionally taller, although the Special Observation Desk we went to is around 250m off the ground, and the Eiffel Tower’s highest deck is much higher. Anyway, this is about Tokyo Tower, not the Eiffel Tower! If you can get in at sunset, the views are stunning. You can see all of Tokyo laid out beneath you – including a view of Tokyo Skytree which is nearly twice as high and much more modern. You can even see Mount Fuji on a good day, although we didn’t. There is an audio tour telling you what you are looking at, at each compass point, but it was a bit hard to follow and you couldn’t pause it easily to get your bearings, so we gave up. It was still very enjoyable, though and we could recommend visiting.

In conclusion, it is not very good as a night view spot.
The surrounding buildings are too tall on the main deck, so you cannot see a glittering night view of the city.
The top deck is higher than the surrounding buildings, so you can see the city from above.
However, the observation deck on the top deck is very narrow, so you cannot relax and enjoy the view. Because it is narrow, you have to wait for your turn for a long time.
In the first place, this top deck tour is not about enjoying the view, but about enjoying the experience with elaborate production like a Disney attraction.
If you are thinking "I just want to go for the view from the observation deck," I strongly recommend you reconsider. The main deck is 1200 yen. Including the top deck, it is 3000 yen. It is not worth the price. I strongly recommend you to visit other places such as Mori Tower in Roppongi or Tokyo Skytree.
Tokyo Tower, a symbol of Tokyo, is something to be viewed from the outside.

On such a nice day, I had to get an aerial view of Tokyo. I went on a Sunday and while it was busy, it wasn't crowded busy. I queued for an adult ticket which cost me 1200 yen for an adult. You then are directed around to see some history and pictures of the tower before moving to the area for the elevator. There was an different line for those who paid 3000 yen for the upper deck tour. The elevator to the main deck was pretty fast so I didn't wait more than few minutes. Once up on the deck, I was able to move very freely around and take photos of Tokyo from various angles. There were bathrooms and food up on the main deck as well as a queue for the elevator to the upper deck (if you decided to pay for it). The exit was down one flight of stairs to the lower main deck. I like this deck better as it as clear walkable flooring to walk on. Some people were cautious about stepping on the glass but I was able to some them that it was safe by standing on it and walking back and forth on it. After that it was an elevator down. There are gift shops, general shopping and food down at the exit. A nice place to go for 20 mins or so and to get photos of Tokyo.

We visited the Tokyo tower yesterday and it was amazing. The place is open for long so we went in around 9pm and avoided the rush. We only went to the main deck 150m above but you can also go into the upper deck 300m above the city. The views were fantastic and we were able to enjoy it better as the city lights come on fully in the night. The ticket were reasonable, we paid ¥1200 per person and the top deck costs ¥3000 per person. You can buy tickets at the venue without booking through 3rd parties.

It was a pleasant & rewarding 40 minute walk to Tokyo Tower from our hotel. Ticket purchases would require time slots so be at the lobby in line at least 5-10 minutes before your elevator ride. There seems to be a constant flow of people so be early or at the very least .. on time.
Great views to be had from the tower.

Let me start by saying the tower itself is well maintained and quite beautiful to behold. They have restaurants, games and a shopping mall in the base. We paid extra to book tickets for the top deck in advance. I can’t say it was worth it - unfortunately the Tokyo skyline really isn’t very interesting, and because there are so many high rise buildings around, it’s not like you can see the ‘entire’ city.

As spectacular views go, this is right up there with the best of them. Views from the top levels of the Tokyo Tower offer aerial sights in all the cardinal point directions with descriptive audio accompanying narrative of the buildings, neighbourhoods, localities and businesses operating in them. The experience includes simulated virtual bungee jump experience, cafe, pastry shops souvenir shop and tourist attractions. Well worth the trip.

We were only on the main deck as there was a very long wait to get up top deck. We had not bought tickets in advance.
It’s a great experience, but I’d probably recommend Tokyo Skytree if you’re up high.
We were here on a Sunday where there were a lot of dressed, young people. They were actually more interesting to look at than the view.

Is the lift up to the observation floors enclosed or does it have windows or a clear floor?

Hello,
I am visiting Tokyo and I want to have the Top Deck Tour, but I cannot book it because my first name (excactly I have two first names in the passport) is longer then 15 letters
What shall I do?
Written May 9, 2024
I’m sure it’ll be fine just to use one first name only. It’s an attraction ticket, they won’t hold it to have to match the passpor exactly
Written June 23, 2024
Are they accepting credit cards at ticket counter?
Written August 4, 2023
I bought my tickets online, where they accepted CCs
Written August 11, 2023
May I know is better just to get the ticket for main deck (150m) or Top Deck Tour (150m &250m)?
Written October 31, 2018
The top deck is currently surrounded by scaffolding and constructions so the views are very obstructed. Check before you go up to see if they’re still working and if they are don’t bother going all the way up.
