Itoya is definitely for stationery fans, as it is 12 floors of paper, pens, cards, and everything else related to writing and creating with paper. It is organized by subject, so office supplies would be on one floor, cards on another, etc. Each floor is small, so the entire store is manageable. It is located on the main shopping street in Ginza, just up from Ginza station and easy to find.

Over 100 years and 12 floors of expertise. This is more than a store. Marvel in a whole floor of specialty paper or drool over a pen selection for for royalty. They even have a cafe for refueling. It is a must see when in Tokyo!

I worship at this five story temple to all things stationery...pens, pencils, paper, folders, crazy paper clips..you name it. It used to be in a different location in Ginza and I found the new smaller location a bit cramped but it is still a wonder. Stamp pads? Ink? Washi paper? Origami? Leather pen holders? How about highlighters? You want Pink? Lemon Yellow? Orange? Blue? They've got them all. Yikes! I never knew that there could be SO MANY different types of mechanical pencils. My son is OBSESSED with them. The Japanese do love their pens (as well they should...writing their beautiful characters is an art) and you can find any kind of pen you ever imagined you ever wanted or existed. Thin, thick, roller ball, ball point, marker, brush, old fashioned ink pens...blue, black, red...MULTI! OMG. Then there are the fantastic plastic organizing folders...see thru works of art in themselves. Oh...and did I mention the many different types of clips? Doggy paper clips, clips with magnets, giant binder clips, in all colors and configurations. I could go on... Bottom line is if you like art and office supplies this is your place.

If you like stationery and related items you can't miss Itoya in Ginza. I was looking for a variety of pens and pencils from Japanese brands like Pilot, Pentel and Zebra and you can find a vast selection at Itoya (better than at Tokyu Hands or the stationery section in other department stores).
Of course there are a multitude of other stationery items on the other floors, but I didn't have enough time to explore the full extend of the place. Needless to say, Itoya is now on my list of "must visit shops" in Tokyo.

I found so many incredibly cool things in this store! I had previously visited another well-known arts and crafts store in Shinjuku, but honestly? I liked this one so much better. Just like the other one, this has multiple floors, but there were many more unique and offbeat things here. While there are definitely art supplies galore, stationery and paper items, you can also find bento boxes, massage stones for your feet, puppets, postcards, glue, pet toys, an art gallery, kitchen tools, and that's just a sample of what you'll find here. Not that I would've bought much more, but since my husband was with me, I felt I couldn't really explore this amazing store as much as I would've liked. The upside to this though, is that unlike a "regular" art store, where he would've been bored out of his mind, and I would have had to leave even sooner, he found some things to look at as well. He kept calling me over to look at things he'd found, which left me less time to look for things I wanted to see. ;-).
I had taken a kintsugi class (repairing pottery with gold epoxy) from a local artisan and she recommended this store over the other one. After visiting both, I know why - this store is fantastic!

What started out as a spontaneous outing to explore Ginza, one of the most renowned shopping districts in Asia, eventually ended up in a 3/4 day exploration of this wonderful stationery Mecca.
We were first attracted by the huge red paper clip outside the store and when we walked in, words could not describe the amazing collection so carefully planned over the 12 storey development. There are dedicated floors for special washi paper (great souvenirs for folks back home), bespoke and ready made notebooks, fountain pens and like 18 different types of ink colours (couldn’t resist getting the purple and teal colours for myself) and even a dedicated section for travel related merchandise.
Great cafe for lunch and tea on the 12th floor and when we thought we were done, we discovered a K.Itoya which has 6 floors of more mainstream stationery that would fit your budget for gifts if you have many friends and colleagues in mind. Ranging from very unique pencil cases to usual day to day things like scissors and pens, you won’t regret making this a stop in your itinerary if you are ever in Tokyo.

I use fountain pens, and this place (the fountain pen store, not the nine-storey stationary store) overloaded my senses.
The first floor is chock full of shiny, mass produced fountain pens, while the second floor, with a more subdued tone, is full of collectors' items. Some of those pens can only be called works of art.
I went in three times, and finally tried out a few pens Ended up buying something double of what I had wanted in the first place (a Pilot Custom 742 with an FA nib).

I visited Itoya Ginza on 10-sep-2015 & hated it....there is absolutely no variety of pens & stationary. When I visited last in 2012, it was an awesome store....HUGE selection, but after renovation, it looks more like a fancy museum with 1-2 sample pieces on display & actual products tucked away somewhere, you can't even see actual product box...I also happened to visit Sekaido in Shinjuku...It reminded of old Itoya...go there if you want variety/selection, & great price.

Itoya is my absolute favorite shop in all of Tokyo. It's located in the very ritzy and stylish, Ginza. It is five floors of pure stationary, sticker, notecard heaven plus pens/pencils, traditional Japanese papers and tons of trinkets! I loaded up on beautiful, unique birthday cards, adorable puppy shaped paper clips, plastic folders, and sticky notes. There is something here for everyone and it's nearly impossible not to spend at least an hour browsing. Highly recommend a visit to this wonderful shop :-)!
