Neighborhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

Busy Tokyo Central Railway Station
Apr 2020
Came into Tokyo central railway station on the magnificent shinkansen train, needing to change stations to get the metro back to our hotel, fortunately we had a guide who travelled with us from our visit to Mt Fuji, and put us in the correct place, the station is massive and extremely busy but is very well signed in both Japanese and English, lots of shops it was like a city within the station, all I can comment is try to avoid rush hour and prepare the route before hand just be sure to stay close to whoever is with you

City within a Station
Feb 2020
Don't be afraid of the emmense size of Tokyo Central Railway station. It's a fabulous place to explore with loads of shops, food halls, restaurants, cafes - even a museum! It even has a great historical side that is very interesting to explore. My advice: Do your research on the Station before you visit, get a map of it - and don't be afraid to ask station staff for assistance if you need it. Check out the Station website too!

Train station, rather big one.

Beautiful view at night.

But this place is and underground maze. Easy to get lost.

You can find many places to store your luggage.

That's the place you have to go to to catch the shinkansen. It's rather easy to navigate past the gates. Finding your exit and how to get to shops like Ramne street, that's a different story.

A glimpse of Tokyo
Oct 2019
Do visit both the sides of the station; getting from one side of the station to other is an experience in itself! The places are well marked and should not be an issue. Although both sides feature tall buildings, one side is more of a business town while the other (Maranouchi side) has more of open spaces and trees.

Pretty building, friendly staff

A pretty building exterior. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and we were able to hold our luggage here for the day before heading to the airport which was helpful. Building layout a little confusing but not too difficult to navigate.

Confusing and Hectic (but Beautiful)
Jan 2020
We had just gotten off a 12-hour flight from Tokyo, so we are pretty worn out. We take to train from the airport to this train station, with ski bags mind you. For the first time Japan traveler and not doing enough research, we got very lost. What should have been 12 minutes, figuring it out on the way back, turned into an hour. The worst part was that this was doing rush hour, so hectic nicely dressed businessmen and women were just getting off the train home. We did feel bad as a few tripped over our ski bags. The staff working there is very nice and professional and will try to answer the question to the fullest extent they have. Be nice and do take your time, this will make things a lot easier. This train station also has great food and options with a mall built inside. We ate at a Shabu-Shabu place near an entrance and it was great, I highly recommend it for a late-night snack before hitting the hay.

Excellent Station

A massive station with links to all of japan. This makes travel while in the country so easy. All the staff are always helpful when asking for directions and platforms etc. If they can’t help you they always find someone that can.

A very beautiful old building
Oct 2019
the Tokyo station is a very classic victoria building. It looks very beautiful outside, however, it's a maze once you walk into the station, especially the basement.
Very hard to find a way to go through the station from the west side to the east side. Prepare to get lost inside, as it also connect to a lot of subway stations.

Easy to navigate. A rail enthusiasts delight
Mar 2020 • Solo
Travelling by train I used this station several times. As I had a JR Pass I also took a look at the various platforms serving different types of trains. Good signage in English and Japanese,

Shinkansen must be their most attractive train. There are several varieties to see.

Stayed at the Tokyo Station Hotel - lots of Japan Railway interest there also. A wonderful example of how stations and railways should be run.

Great for a visit from overseas railways - they could learn a great deal.
