I had a look at these walks online but was not sure what it was like. We did not book anything to keep some flexibility in our day. Lucky for us we were approached by Hiroshi out the front of the Tokyo Station.
We decided to give it a try and it turned out to be on of the highlights of the trip.
Lee, Hiroshi and Takashi were fantastic. they had heaps of knowledge, information, picture and diagrams to help get the information across. We got to see so much more than we knew about with heaps of facts about buildings, history and culture. We also got to see what was lost by the pictures diagrams and explanations.
I would highly recommend joining these fantastic volunteers who give up their time to help highlight their fantastic city.

We went to visit Asakusa, one of the historic parts of Tokyo city and, as we came out of the Metro station, we encountered a group of guides from the Tokyo Free Walking Tour (TFWT). They offered us a free walking tour, in English, which took about 1&½ hours. Our guides were Yoshi, Toyo and trainee Saatchi. It was an excellent tour and the guides were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. A great tour and an unexpected bonus!

We had a wonderful time at the Tokyo Free Walking Tour of Asakusa on Sunday 11th June 2023. Our guide “Dragon” conducted the tour in a fun, engaging and educational way that had each member of our family (teenager included) laughing and interested each step of the way. His English was fantastic and we did not struggle at all.
We would have loved to have done another tour, but ran out of time. I’m would not hesitate to do any of their tours and highly recommend you make time to do one of their walking tours when in Tokyo.

Our three guides were Kayoko, Asano and Hiroshi. The whole tour was presented in English and it was very fun and informative. While English may not be their first language, you could tell that they wanted to improve their English and I loved how they clearly put lots of heart and soul into the tour. Highlights from the tour were the dramatical/comedic re-enactment of a historic event, origami shuriken (ninja star) gifts that we got to keep and the really good photography skills of the tour guides (they helped us take photos for us with our phones). What amazed me more was how they did not accept our tips at the end of the tour and the tour was completely free. I can easily say that Kayoko, Asano and Hiroshi are truly passionate about giving out high quality and professional tours.

Our family recently experienced two fantastic walking tours in Tokyo! The Asakusa tour, guided by Yoshi, Naoko, and Akiko, provided rich insights into Japanese culture and I learnt the differences between the temples and shrines.
The Meiji Shrine and Harajuku tour, led by Asano, Rei, and Yutaka, offered a captivating exploration into the history of the area and we managed to see Japanese wedding couples during the visit.
The patient guides made the 2-hour tours enjoyable for all, with engaging narratives and cultural tidbits. They even prepared worksheets and origami tokens to engage my young children!
The guides are kind, hospitable, wonderful to talk to and also recommended us restaurants for lunch.
We highly recommend these free walking tours for visitors keen to engage with Japanese and learn first hand from them.

We went on a tour of Asakusa with Yoneda. He was a great guide. We learned about the surrounding area, main temple and shrine. Yoneda walked us through the history, symbolism and cultural context of the temple and shrine. We also learned how to observe the religious practices of each site. I also learned more about the differences between Shinto and Buddhist religious practices. I am very grateful to Yoneda and the tour group for generously volunteering their time, energy and knowledge to enrich our collective experience.

I’m shocked that this tour is free! We participated in the imperial palace garden tour. We learned so much being on this tour, way more than we would’ve if we did this on our own. It’s genuinely free (still shocked lol) and they sweetly gave us origami as a souvenir. The nonprofit just wants to share Japanese culture with tourists. We had Rei, Toyo, and Akito as our guides and we learned so much from them. Can tell they’re passionate about Japanese history and I’m grateful they chose to volunteer their time to share with us. When walking site to site, we also enjoyed getting to know them on an individual level and hearing about their lives. I saw one person in the group try to tip at the end and they try genuinely try hard to refuse tips (if anyone is still skeptical haha). My only wish is that I wished I found out about them sooner. Sign up for the tour, you won’t regret it! Also, wear comfy shoes, it’s a lot of walking and several people were expressing how painful their feet were after walking days in Japan.

The tours are well-organised, friendly and very informative. They pack in a lot of detail but not too much in the time they have. I particularly like the dramatic and comedic re-enactment. The pull-on costumes at the end were lame and of no interest. I loved all the historical facts being presented in the place that they happened. The guides are all lovely fun people.

Tokyo Free Walking Tours: Our tour though the Palace East Gardens was a splendid excursion into Japanese history and culture with Ritsuko-san and Kayoko-san, two magnificent women who led my wife and I on a tour from Tokyo Station through the gardens. For over two hours they explained so much that we now feel that we are really ready to return and experience so much more of Japan. This was the most helpful and enjoyable experience we've had so far while visiting Tokyo. We totally enjoyed our time spent with these lovely ladies and appreciate their earnest efforts to make us feel welcome and comfortable. By the time our tour completed we felt like old friends, what a delightful

Did a tour of the Meiji-jingu shrine, and the Harajuku area; the tour guides, Asako and Yoneda, were exceptional; their knowledge of Shinto really elevated the entire experience of seeing the Meiji Shrine. They were really receptive to the needs of the group, and were even flexible with their timings, as some of us had to leave early.
The tour guides were friendly and engaging, and I would happily recommend this tour to anyone seeing this area. The group was also small enough, that it was a warm and inviting environment, which meant that as a solo-traveller, I felt very at home. Strongly recommend this for anyone visiting, and will myself be going back for their other tours of Tokyo!
