- Emma CGodalming, United Kingdom3,049 contributionsAn OasisThe park and moat surrounding Osaka-Jo are very pretty and a real oasis in the craziness of Osaka. We were there in autumn, so it looked extra lovely with the leaves starting to turn. The other thing that caught my eye is that it was full of locals picnicking, wandering, painting, or running around with their kids. It's definitely a nice space for time away from the hustle and bustle.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 21, 2023
- kunwoo.lee_matthewSeoul, South Korea154 contributionsHeavenly park to enjoy if you have the luxury of visiting during cherry blossom seasonThis is definitely one of my favorite trips! We were lucky to visit Osaka during cherry blossom season, and got to understand why Japanese people are so enthusiastic about cherry blossoms. The mood was warm, serene and heavenly. Japan websites have a cherry blossom weather forecast so plan your trip ahead.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 6, 2024
- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand4,282 contributionsBeautiful park surrounding the Osaka Castle! The Osaka Castle Park is a 100+ hectare sprawling park surrounding the Osaka Castle. It includes gardens, the moats, bridges, and area around the castle. During cherry blossom time, it is spectacular!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 14, 2024
- LolaGo1Washington DC, District of Columbia6,632 contributionsWalked through here to visit the Osaka CastleAfter getting off the Metro/Subway, I walked through the Park to enter the castle. Tnere are several areas of the Park where one can take photos of the castle, the moat, and the water. There are benches in the park where one can sit down and rest for a short time. Also noted are some public restrooms and Lawson Snack Store.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 29, 2024
- GMANMOVINGTrichardt, South Africa46 contributionsGoing back in timeIf history and architecture are your thing, visiting Osaka castle is a must. The castle towers above the rest of the buildings surrounding it. There is a "train" if you don't feel like walking, but if you walk, you will see much more. You have quite a walk best not to take young kids along. You will spend most of the day if you want to explore it all. I highly recommend visiting Osaka castleVisited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- RamsumHyderabad, India136 contributionsGood vantageMust visit to know history a little closer. The park itself was unkempt but gives good views. Also not many people recommend going inside the castle and hence park offers good vantage.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024
- geo3Calgary, Canada1,893 contributionsBeautiful, and freeHuge park (about 1 km per side) with lots of paths for walking. The castle itself is the star, of course, but I particularly enjoyed the walks alongside the moats. I was here twice, for about two or three hours each time, and could have spent more time. The view of the castle from the Japanese garden is particularly good, and the Japanes garden, while small, is beautiful. Even if you don't go into the castle (which is extra cost), it's worth walking around it, to get an appreciation for its architectural detail and its size. There are a few places to buy food and drink on the periphery of the park, as well as a few food stalls scattered throughout the park.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten August 10, 2024
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsSunset Visit on New Year's DayWe had a pleasant walk around the Osaka Castle Park on New Year's Day and felt we got some very nice photos. The castle was closed when we visited but we still enjoyed the park. We got off at Ōsakajōkōen Station after taking the circle loop line from Osaka Station and there was a nice area with some restaurants and cafes. Near the park we found a couple of vendors selling street food including cheese coins and pancakes with pork inside. We would recommend wearing good shoes here and around Osaka because there is lots to see while walking around.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 2, 2024

Great historic tourist venue. They do a nice job of providing a multi-media history display on each level of the castle. It is worth waiting in line for. The views from the top floor of 360 view of Osaka are excellent. A wonderful display of the history of the castle with 3D videos and also my favorite, a display of the various samurai armor - extensive head armor display. Having grown up in a museum family I was impressed with the quality and breadth of the head armor.
I would recommend taking the stairs up to the 8th level rather than waiting in line with the masses for the elevator. It is quicker, not to mention the health benefits. Then you can work your way down level by level to view the historic displays.

This was a highlight of our holiday to Japan. Right near the train station when you arrive. We recommend you pay the small fee to get on the shuttle train in the entrance to get to the castle. Beautiful photo opportunites of the castle and the added bonus of the beautiful plum blossoms if you go in February. The entertainers just near the castle were very good and provided everyone with a laugh. We didn't go into the castle however you can for a small fee. There were souvenir shops and a small cafe near the castle also. A great day out, don't miss this one!!!

The castle provides lots of facilities for tourists to explore the history of Osaka. I visited this castle twice in a week and the museum nearby really help people explore the history deeper. Very impressive!

Most people come to visit the castle of course. The park is quite large and has plenty to see. The castle has a large moat that surrounds it. Both inside the castle and outside are parks worth exploring. We came during sakura (cherry blossom) season and many visitors simply come to view the trees in blossom. In autumn, they have the ‘koyo’ (falling leaves) season. For sakura season, they also have a nighttime festival with lights that are on the castle itself as well as on the sakura trees that line the moat and area all over the grounds.
The park is quite large. For the weary traveler, they offered a golf cart to take you from a spot close to the metro all the way to the castle. For seniors, it was only 100 JPY or less than a dollar in the USA.
There is a very large statue of Toyotomi Hideyoshi,- Japan's second great unifier which is great photo opportunity.
So, come for the castle and linger for the park. We spent about 2.5 hours doing both.

A beautiful place to go and spend time wandering through the gardens and along the moat. To see a piece of feudal time that has long passed. Allow a good two hours to wander around the gardens, The park is free a family destination complete with cafes and "motorised" trains that take you down to the Castle itself-costing is 300 yen one way or 500 yen return. If you are a senior the cost is 100 yen one way. Being on the" motorised"train it is a good way to see the park at a leisurely pace. Accessiblity is through the metro train lines. Unfortunately the castle was shut due to CO VID 19 but don't let that stop you,it is well worth the trip.

Even though the main castle was shut due to COVID19, the gardens offer plenty to look at and admire. This is quite a large area and you can easily spend a few hours just looking at the gardens. If you go on the right night, they had a light show available that lit up the castle grounds.
We also paid to go up to the viewing deck which also includes a drink of your choice and you can sit and look at the grounds and the castle.

This park was far larger than we expected and an unexpected highlight of our time in Osaka.
It was all accessible for free and highlights included a plum blossom grove, the National Forest, some old men displaying their eagles and an owl (random) and great views of Osaka Castle and the city.
Around the grounds of the park were a large number of modern cafes/restaurants, including Starbucks, which offered a nice chance for a break from the walk around the parklands.

Stunning castle from the exterior - disappointed to see the interior is actual a very modern museum (our lack of reading up on it beforehand). The museum itself is informative and well laid out, the views from the top are a great way to see the city of kyoto. The grounds around the castle are so beautiful especially the gardens with the plum trees and cherry blossom that is currently blooming in February!

Osaka Park surrounding the castle is definitely worth walking around. It’s very pretty and perfectly manicured. The sculptured pine trees are amazing. The large moat around the castle is calming and a great contrast to see the castle then the modern city in the background.

Visited at night, hence not able to enter. However castle view itself at night is marvellous. It is magnificent, almost ethereal, and without the crowd, we were able to get as close as possible and gawk at the structure without disturbance, and just be there. Roamed around the park at night during late winter to early spring is another great experience. Saw some joggers, late night visitors like us, couples etc, basking in the cool weather.

What time does the park close? We will be arriving in namba around 3:30PM . We plan to go to the osaka castle park after checking in at our hotel. I know the castle closes at around 4:30PM during autumn season, but can we still stroll around within the park near the castle even until around 7PM?

I notice that there are a number of train stops near this park... Which one should I get off from for easier access to the park? Thank you.
Written June 1, 2019
very easy on the osaka metro
from namba:
1) Yotsubashi Line Nishi-Umeda (2 stops) starting at Namba Station to Hommachi Station
2) Chuo Line Gakken-Nara Tomigaoka (3 stops) starting at Hommachi Station to Morinomiya Station

It is published on the official site of Osaka Castle Park.
The general vehicle parking lot seems to be in Mori no Miya and Osaka Castle Park station. I think that it is better to go by public transportation because it might be crowded.

Добрый день! Подскажите, замок работает до 16-30. Можно ли парк около замка посетить после этого времени?
Hello! Tell me plz, the castle is open until 16.30 p.m. Park near the castle can be visited after this time?
Written May 14, 2018
They close exactly at 5pm. I think they start not letting people into the Castle starting at 4:30pm (that's what the other castles and temples also did while I was in Japan).
