Phenomenal opportunity to taste, learn about and experience sake. Koji-san is a pleasure to talk to, super knowledgeable and personable. I so enjoyed myself that i stayed after the class to take the opportunity to continue sampling and chatting with folk in such a cozy environment. Do yourself a favour and come. You wont get a better value opportunity to taste this level and variety of sake while also gaining a wealth of knowledge.

I am not a drinker but sake school was one of my must do’s in Osaka.
Having visited Osaka last year (devoting our stay to tourist sites) this second visit, I wanted to try more of Japanese Culture.
Our host was very thorough with his discussion of Sake - especially its history and general information.
Aside from explanations on each type
of sake that we drank, he showed us videos how sake was made.
At the end of the class, we were given a quiz - i scored 7/10 ... shows i was not listening in some portions as i was busy taking pictures for souvenir.
I requested for a refresher class so i can make up
for low grades and have more Sake.
KAMPAI!!!

We had loads of fun tasting different sake's and learning about the history and future of sake brewing. We went back after dinner and it is a great bar to hangout.

As a sake noob I never imagined that there is so much to tell about this simple yet so complex drink. Sake Sommelier Koji Uenoyama is a very passionate host who loves to introduce people to the world of sake. And (for those who do not speak Japanese) he speak perfect English by the way. Together with a video how sake is made and some light snacks, you can enjoy 5 cold and one warm cup sake. Koji will learn you how to read the labels of sake bottles and what you need to look out for while purchasing a bottle of sake. Don't stare to much in the cup though, you will be tested at the end!

This is a short and sweet class, an hour comparing six sakes (well, five--four plus one served both cold and warm), watching a video on sake production, and chatting about sake and the industry. Between Koji, the effects of the alcohol, and the other students it's a fun time at a good price for anyone who likes to learn more about food and drink.

Loved this experience. The sake bar itself is an awesome spot! Koji was very informative and taught us alot about the different types of sake. We stayed for a drink after the class and were joined at the bar by a few locals. A must-do while in Osaka.

This was a great time and an incredibly cost-effective way to get a first-hand introduction to sakes! We booked last minute to Koji's class and we couldn't recommend it highly enough. Koji walked us through the various types of sake and its rich history. On top of that, he served a great variety of sakes, paired with some light snacks. Koji's passion for the subject really shines through!

We booked a sake tasting after we saw a flyer in our hostel and I'm so glad we did. It was a real highlight of our trip.
We had never tried sake before but Koji explained everything to us and we got to try 6 different kinds.
The food pairings were delicious also - especially the meatballs!
I would recommend this to anyone, whether you love sake already or like us it is your first taste! It gave us a great insight into Japanese culture.

Sake School Osaka might be my most enjoyable activity in Osaka so far! Whether you’re a novice sake drinker or want to make your way into being a sake master, I highly recommend this class.
The class was taught right below Osaka Hana Hostel at Hana Sake Bar, one of my favorite places to drink sake!
We learned about what’s a traditional tasting glass, the differences between color, and what characteristics to look for. You’ll get a total of 6 tastings and he even added a taste of umami, a 5th tasting method to evaluate characteristics. The food pairings were quite enjoyable as well.
Koji, our sake master, was quite knowledgeable and was able to answer the hundreds of questions we were asking. He even gave us a few recommendations on other places we can try quality sake. His English is also very good if you’re concerned about any language barriers.
Thanks, Koji! I’m inspired to learn even more about sake.
