A place with a western feel to it, but without completely taking over the Japanese spirit. You can spend half a day there. Enjoy the view, have some drinks, take a river cruise and spend a nice romantic enening.

I walked in this park every morning as our hotel - the Okura, was right beside it. It houses the Maritime Museum, Port Tower and Earthquake Memorial plus an attractive water feature and is very popular with school groups during the day.

I visited Meriken Park when I was recently in Kobe on business. It was about a 7 min walk from my hotel (Oriental), and offered a serene oasis away from Kobe's central business districts.

Nice scenery, especially in the weekends and evenings. Beautiful lightened buildings, objects and sculptures. Walk up to the entertainment park at the end and enjoy 1 of the restaurants or bars overthere.
