Atsuta Jingu is one of the big "must see" places in Nagoya. So we made sure not to miss it. Frankly, if you have been to any shrines anywhere else in Japan, you will be quite disappointed in this one. The highlight for us was...More

This shrine was lovely, but I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist destination. It felt very much like walking in and gawking at a local place of worship.

Stroll down the gravel walkway under a canopy of trees. Lucky to have a guide to explain the cleansing custom of washing your hands prior to entering and extremely lucky to see a Japanese couple who were about to get married. Toss a small coin...More

Wasn’t that busy when I went in April. It was a nice walk and a good place to spend time while waiting to eat in the nearby unagi place - Horaiken!

I found it serene and beautiful. Especially the contemplation path. And the tall trees. And the two couples getting married all dressed up in traditional gear

Its a nice shrine, but its very boring to look at, on special days its impossible to get a parking spot and the locals line up along Fushimi dori and ignore road rules and hold up traffic by parking illegally.

The Atsuta Jingu Shrine is off the Meitetsu Nagoya Line from Nagoya Station to Jingumae Station and a right across the street. The Shrine has a large and beautiful grounds. Several buildings to see. A nice place to visit.

This is one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan, and it is gorgeous! I highly recommend going for a visit, especially in early summer when the greenery is overflowing and the weather is mild.

This shrine has immeasurable religious and historical value and, just like Ise Shrine in Mie, it is as uninteresting as it is important. The temple is impersonal, bare, dry and even quite arrogant, far away from the worshipers, as if it did not want to...More
