This museum is rather hidden and you could easily miss it since it really does not look like a museum. I was there in December 2018 at which time there was a temporarily exhibition of the pumpkin art of the famous Japanese female artist Yayoi...More

The tickets for London and Tokyo were booked up so I thought I was lucky that I could just turn up to this without a reservation. I now know why... They make you expect that there are some works exhibited in the garden. Not. Interactive?...More

Yayoi show is only there for a couple more months but this is the best exhibit you will ever see of her work. Extensive collection of her work exhibited in a beautiful building. If you have any interest well worth your time.

There are good reasons why Kusama is the most-visited artist in museums around the world, but here a great exhibition in a unique and out-of-the-way setting (yes, even though it is in Gion!) shows Kusama's endless creativity, energy and fun in new ways. We've seen...More

Stumbled across this exhibit while wandering Gion and it was a highlight of our time in Kyoto. Museum is on the smaller side but we spent at least an hour touring through. The exhibit was well done and a fascinating dive into Yayoi Kusama and...More

This small museum was wonderful. I was excited to see Yayoi Kusama’s art because I have heard so much about her. The gallery was great and had such cool art by her. The garden is the back was very picturesque.

The exhibit of Yoyoi Kusama's art is spectacular. I had never heard of her, but it was recommended by a Japanese friend. The old house, the garden, the pumpkins, the mirror room, and Fuji prints were all great. And there is a wonderful museum cafe...More

gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion
