There are options: local, Italian, French, American style burgers etc. It's not cheap though so don't expect a low key dinner out. Some places are of course a little cheaper but you might find yourself strolling around to find a place that matches your budget....More

Atmospheric street with many restaurants and bars to explore. Many of the restaurants have a terrace that overlooks the river which is fantastic for sunset dinner or evening drinks. The later we were there we spotted quite a few Geisha wondering around which was a...More

You'll find lots of restaurants and bars in the area. They do have specific opening hours, such as lunch and dinner. But not in between such as 2.30-5.30pm. Definitely worth a walk!!

It looked like we walked back in time or we had entered a Miyazaki movie. So many lovely restaurants and amazing views. We chose the only ramen restaurant because my son was feeling like it and it was great. I’m going to look up the...More

Do not miss Pontocho for nightlife. It runs along the river and is full of bars and restaurants - colorful nightlife for everyone. It's a somewhat hidden gem in Kyoto.

Pontocho is a unique alley in Gion, full of restaurants and bars. It’s quite crowded at night but that’s also it’s magic, all the people, lights, colors and smells.

We headed toward Pontocho Alley after browsing the shops in Gion; noticed that riverside outdoor tables were filling up fast. We managed to score one and enjoyed a delicious meal, overlooking the river - and seeing tourists on the bridge looking toward us. On exiting...More

Small streets full of restaurants. It’s an interesting walk around and you get to see lots. The river runs parallel, many bars and restaurants have terraces that hang over the river.

Pontocho
Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's
most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow
street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's
busiest nightlife spot. When darkness falls,
Pontocho's many signs and lanterns bolt to life,
making the area glow with invitations to passers-by to
come inside and pull up a chair. Its restaurants and
bars sprawl onto the riverbank, providing a friendly
