The exhibition on the history and art of the Gion Float Festival was particularly enjoyable. The museum once housed the Kyoto Branch of the Bank of Japan.

We bought tickets and nowhere was it explained that these tickets were only for the fashion design exhibit, she clearly said it was for this museum. We went into a room and it was basically an extended ad for DesIgual, really loud music and silly...More

This is not a large museum. Entry is only ¥500 because there are only 1-3 floors of exhibits depending on what you want to pay to see. That said, the historical section with audio guides in English was well chosen and lasted about twenty minutes....More

I did not pay to see the exhibitions on the upper floors. This limited me to the ground floor, which was essentially shops in Edo era facades. Quite nice, but nothing very special

A nice little museum with pleasant staff, but very little on display - especially since most floors are now closed. There was just one floor of exhibits and another floor for a theatre, and only the titles of the exhibits were translated into English, none...More

It's nice if you want to see how's the life in kyoto before and how they preserved their culture and stability. If you are looking for more in depth history, i'm not sure if this is for you.

Quite large museum in the city center offers national but also international artworks to be seen by visitors. Disappointing was that there was very little information in english about national part. Exhibition by Magnum photographers was great and had well written english documentation.

I believe that those giving the museum a bad review because of the lack of English are not being fair. The museum is in Japan, after all. Coming from NY, it was not the best museum I ever went to. The fee is quite steep...More

In short; it's a complete waste of time and money (especially as it's overpriced (1400 yen in total)). The permanent Kyoto exibit is poor, as it is very short and not well organised, but at least it has audio guides in languages other than english....More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
