If you want to see how the locals lived in the centre of a southern Italian walled town, this is the place to visit.
Nearby Ostuni and Locorotondo have Centro Storici which are inhabited and by and large restored- the old part of Ceglie is mainly "abbandonato". If you are a dreamer and a romantic you become swept back in time to a simpler, paired down life...a realist sees lack of modern conveniences and a degree of rusticity difficult to imagine...either version needs to he experienced.
Enter by parking near the Porta Giuso, climb the stairs to the Piazza Vecchio and simply wander...perhaps taking in lunch at Osteria L'Antico Arco ...outside in Largo Celso if the sun is shining.
From the Borgo Antico head out into the Piazza Plebiscito where you will find (more!) modern life...except between 13.30 & 17.30...siesta time!

Ceglie is a wonderful place, not so much touched by tourism, like Ostuni in the neighbourhood, but with the same beauty of a puglian hill village. Wonderful old centre, white houses, narrow streets, which are full with life, as locals are living in it, and not tourists. Worth to see.

This area is beautiful and perfect to explore while finding a place for a cafe sit or a meal. The place is absolutely full of lovely sites and old homes, local treasures of all kinds, and small enough not to be demanding whatever the weather.

The medieval old town is small but charming, and mercifully free of tourist tat. Little visual treasures around every corner, and when you look up .

Ceglie is considered the gastronomic capital of Puglia (Apulia). Its location atop of a hill provides a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. Lots of small very good restaurants for all purses and never a lack of historical sites, as it is usual in Italy.

A small old town with very few tourists. And you can have a delicious meal here at Cibus and some good sweets at Cafe Centrale.

The town is so pretty but lived in - something that most of the other pretty places like Alberobello or Locorotunda etc don’t feel.
Lots of nice cafes and bars and bistros

Ceglie is home to a spellbindingly beautiful fortified old town packed with medieval architectural treasures, white houses, great places to take a break with a glass of wine.

Ceglie is not as popular as many of the surrounding hill top Borgos which is much to it's benefit. Quiet and cool, local people still live here and have not been displaced by gentrification. Some beautiful buildings and a nice sprinkling of cafés and places to eat. We'll come again.
