End of summer's warm water has come to an end, but one can still jump into the Xiangjiang River for a refreshing swim. We came across a few fishing, who said that their catch was pretty good.

We walked along the riverside walk waiting for the fireworks to begin. There were enormous crowds and some loud music at the riverside bars. The fireworks started late and were quite disappointing.

Jul2017 This is a big river that lies slightly to the West of Changsha old town centre. There are several big modern bridges crossing the river at the Changsha area. The Metro also crosses under this river. You can get various nice views of this river from 1. top of Mount Yuelu, 2. when crossing the bridges, 3. the shores of Orange Island, 4. I did not get to view from the bank of the river, so I don't know if there are any nice vantage points along the banks to view. You can see barges carrying sand? ore? on the river and also tour cruise boats that go round the Orange Island. The river is OK (ie. not dirty nor smelly) even when I stand at the water's edge on Orange Island on a hot sunny day. FrancisTLim.

The most famous of the city’s parks is a 5km-long sliver in the Xiāng River. A reflective 32-year-old Mao immortalized it in ‘Changsha’, probably his best regarded poem, after standing at its southern tip and looking west towards Yuèlù Mountain one autumn day. A towering granite bust of a youthful Chairman with flowing locks now stands at the spot – but faces in a new direction. Catch a sightseeing trolley at the entrance and skip the run up of manicure lawns before the main attraction

It is a very industrialised river in a large city. The water stays a drab yellow-brownish green. It is interesting to watch the ships go by and some of the bridges are nice, but this is not an "idyllic" postcard type river. It's best viewed for afar.

Great for cooling off and seeing people out, enjoying some open air, away from the density of teh city.

It is a very Chinese park. There are plenty of green spaces with parks and pavilions on Tangerine Island. There is a huge statue of Mao on the Island that is very unique. There is not much to draw in foreigners but if you are in Changsha, it is worth a visit.
