Another beautiful ancient town, which looks magnificent when lit up in the evening, and with the streets graced with locals who give it an extra level of charm.

Picturesque, nice little town, well worth a visit
May 2018 • Couples
We came to Huangyao on a day trip from Guilin and very much enjoyed its narrow streets, very old buildings, the arched, stone bridges, as well as the myriad of little shops. Lots of tourists, mostly Chinese, but if you go on the side streets it will get more quiet and you may get a better feeling of how the city may have felt like before it became a touristic attraction. All together, a picturesque very nice little town, well worth a visit.

Oct 2017 • Friends
you should stay 2 nights in this little city. I know after the second day you should knows all the owners by name and by birdday. But it's a little town of everything is old but still nice. We stay here in two different places each one night both was a really nice old house renovated little bit
They decorated the House with an lot of love by nice trees and flowers insight.in this two places where we staying the owner or the management didn't used to much concrete so the old charm still available.

A well-preserved ancient town with beautiful surroundings
Dec 2016 • Couples
My partner and I joined a coach tour from Hong Kong so that we could visit this beautiful old town that's 1000 years old. Unfortunately with the rapid expansion of the urban sprawl in south China it was necessary to drive further inland to see some unspoilt natural landscape! And it's near impossible to visit such places except with organised tours. Our 3-day trip covered about 1500 km. We visited Hungyao on the last day. After lunch we had to spend 7 hours (with comfort breaks every 2 hours) on the coach to cover 500 km back to Shenzhen to get back to Hong Kong! However the wonderful view was worth the effort. Think Guilin with 1/10th of the tourists!! We were lucky to have a knowledgeable guide to take us through the interesting well-preserved streets. I would have loved to spend a couple more hours there but I would say that the town could be well explored in one day.

A real old town in China
Apr 2016 • Couples
Huangyoa is an ancient town of about a thousand years. The name of Huang Yao came from the family names of the locals who were mainly Huang and Yao. It is situated in the northest of Zhaoping, Guangxi, China. As It is about 2 hours’ drive from Guilin, it is worthwhile to visit Huangyao after your trip to Guilin. The old town looks like a primitive and simple village with different kinds of pavilions, various temples, ancestral halls and even the old trees. The constructions of the Ming and Qing Dynasties are scattered along the streets in the old town.

Miss Fang's Coffee
Nov 2015 • Friends
What a wonderful place to spend a few days: the hotels, the food, the walks through the village, local crafts, mountains all around, an ancient bridge, people going about their daily lives, welcoming, friendly, charming.

Miss Fang’s coffee shop was a highlight of our visit. Miss Fang herself is absolutely delightful. Her coffee is the best I have tasted in China.

Beatiful old streets
Nov 2015 • Solo
Huangyao has a beatiful old part where the movie Painted veil was filmed.
It's a bit difficult to get there from Yangshuo as there is no direct public bus and you have to take a day tour which includes transport and entrance fee. There are several direct public buses to Guilin. I stayed in the village for two nights (one night is enough). There is plenty of accommodation in the ancient houses. The food within the old town is quite overpriced. You can rent a bamboo boat for 10RMB to go around the village.
The entrance to the city is about 100RMB.

Avoid staying inside the town
Sep 2015 • Couples
Please consider this: to prevent further worsening the environment of the ancient town, visitors'd better stay in a hotel just outside the town. With a day pass, visitors are entitled to unlimited entry to the ancient town so you can take photos, see the houses, eat in a local food stall or small restaurant or have or drink in a bar anytime on a day you like but please do not stay inside the town. There are dozens of family-run hostels. Just imagine, the ancient sewage facilities cannot accommodate hundreds of visitors using modern industrial products of shampoo or shower gel. Very sure, the untreated sewage will pollute the river of the town. Visitors who really like the town are very welcome to go to the town, but please avoid staying inside the ancient town for the sake ot the town. Let the younger generations have an opportunity to see this lovely ancient town (though the town is being more and more commercialised).

Still has a real charm and very friendly locals
Aug 2015 • Family
I recommend visiting soon, tourism is creeping in, but the village still has its char and friendly locals. Streets almost deserted at night and following the labyrinth of cobblestones streets by red lantern light is quite the adventure.

Every street had several quaint little courtyard inns that looked so peaceful. Not much in the way of shopping and difficult perhaps for non-Chinese speakers. Our laoban was a wonderful, friendly guy who played us a few tunes on his keyboard as we ate and drank in his inn - a great, authentic experience that is becoming harder to find in any of these older towns.
