Very nice little walk around a ruin of a castle with a breathtaking scenery. Also some nice art in the gardens and of course the birds. We were unlucky as the weather wasn’t great but it was looking nice and interesting...if you are fluent in...More

It was a steep hike up to Castello di Vezio from Varenna, but the views over the lake from the castle are stunning. You can see all the way up and down the lake from the overlooks. The castle itself was nice to see, but...More

We found parking along the street below and walked/hiked our way up to the castle. We had perfect weather and it was the perfect length of "hike" with younger kids. Beautiful views of Lake Como. The kids thought the "ghosts" were pretty cool...and they liked...More

Great view, 2 trails to go up/down. When facing the castle while in Varenna, the trail at your right is the tough one (hiking trail). The left trail is much more easy. If you are not in shape, take the left trail.

This was a highlight of our trip to lake como. The walk up the hill is worth the breathtaking view of the area. The castello is beautiful and the gardens are meticulously cared for but the view is what you come for. A must do.

Perched high on a hill top, overlooking Lake Como to the north and south, is the strategic castle of Vezio. It’s origins are uncertain but it is believed to date back to the 8th century, and its purpose was as a lookout over the lake,...More

The views from the tower are worth the trek up the hill we went up the hill from the Villa Montesera side which is a thin set of steps through the woods. At times these can be very steep. The castle itself is set in...More

We came up here today in the early afternoon and took the very well marked path, straight up from the ferry docks area. The path is mostly "stone" cobblestones and as such, the footing can be irregular but is totally fine, at least in dry...More

The hike up wasn’t very long, it was steep but morning unmanageable. While the view at the foot of the castle is stunning it is well worth it to climb to the top of the castle.

We saw the castle down from Varenna and wanted to go. The road there was not so well directed. From the parking lot we had to climb for about 15-20 minutes. When up and you could see lovely most northern olive groves, lazy “eagle owl”,...More

You might find it difficult to navigate the narrow streets that maze around the castle but you can always park up somewhere close to the castle and walk from there.
