We had an excellent experience with Mirissa Water Sports! Chandi in the office provided very friendly, clear and fast communication on our booking, with friendly service from the boat driver and guide as well. We hired a half day tour on a private speedboat for our family of 4 (our kids are 7 and 10 years), the vessel was clean, comfortable and had a shaded area and toilet aboard. Don’t forget sunscreen and hats, and wear swimmers with sun shirts on the tour - you will get splashed and be in the full sun when viewing the animals but not an issue at all if you’re prepared. Water and snacks were provided aboard. We were taken out quickly which was so nice to not have to wait a long time in the harbour for a large boat full of passengers to settle in before leaving. We went very far out looking for whales, and in the first couple of hours we saw two very large pods of spinner dolphins and some flying fish. This was lovely and we were able to see baby dolphins swimming alongside their mothers, with lots of dolphins swimming right up next to our boat. Our guide was very patient and finally towards the end of our tour he spotted a blue whale and we were able to quickly get up fairly close to see it without disturbing it or getting too close. Our hope was to be able to see a blue whale, so needless to say we were all absolutely thrilled! The guide and driver had a lot of knowledge about the animals as well which was great. None of us felt sea sick during the trip despite the ride being bumpy out at sea, as the smaller speedboats don’t sway as much as the larger vessels and you are able to stop whenever needed to use bathroom etc. Sea sickness tablets are provided by the office if you feel you need it, but we didn’t take any and we’re fine.
The price was also excellent compared to other providers we found online, we paid $300 US plus a wildlife tax of $18 per person for this private tour, which lasted a bit over 4 hours.

When my 4-year old sea animal lover insisted that he wanted to see real dolphins, we contacted Mirissa Water Sports to check on the possibility. Chandi said we could even come the next day. So, we left Colombo early morning on the following day. Even when we were running little behind the schedule as the roads were covered with mist, Chandi was constantly checking our whereabouts and she made sure that we reach Mirissa on time. At her office, we had to fill in some required information. Then she took us to the boat which was clean and spacious. The crew was also very attentive and took good care of us throughout the ride, specially when my two-year old little girl was sea-sick. They provided us a lovely breakfast with burghers, eggs, sausages, cake and bananas, and gave water bottles too. My son was so glad to see a school of spinner dolphins guiding our boat to a considerable distance. We were able to see green sea turtles mating. We had to travel for about 04 hours to spot whales, and the crew did their best to find a whale. It was totally worth it as we spotted a large Whale Shark. The crew didn’t return until they made sure everyone in the boat gets a closer look of the whale. But they never disturbed the whale’s movements. On our way back, they offered us fruits. So, from start to finish, it was a superb experience, and my kids were overjoyed. I would recommend Mirissa Water Sports to anyone planning to come to Mirissa. They are indeed the pioneers of responsible whale watching. We will be back for snorkeling soon.

We are a family of 4 and booked the whale watching tour with Chandi and the team. Chandi and her team went out of the way to make everyone comfortable. Sea sick tablets are offer to those who might need which is an attention to detail. The boat team driver too went out of his way spot the whales and drive close to them so we could see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. The food and beverages served on board was adequate and overall it was a superb experience which we highly recommend. Thank you Chandi and the team.

Very professional team and a good boat with relatively few people on board which made it more comfortable and easy to look around from different viewpoints. (Some of the cheaper tours were listing back and forth due to being pretty packed with people.) Our boat maintained a steady speed without excessive wake and stayed at a respectful distance from the whales we saw. It wasn't a good day to see whales (we saw two right whales very well and distant spouts of others ... unsure what they were) but that was luck of the draw. Our captain also found us a pair of green turtles mating mid ocean which was very cool. They served a perfectly good breakfast after setting off, and yummy fresh fruit later in the morning.

This was without doubt one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka.
The extra money to get a private charter speedboat was well worth it and added so much to the whale-watching experience. While the bigger boats were chugging towards the whales when they were sighted we were able to zip across and get fantastic close look.

These guys really put in an enthusiastic but very responsible effort on our whale watching trip. A bit of persistence and they gave us sightings of a blue whale dolphins and turtles within the one trip. Good clean facilities on shore and on board. Good distance maintained from the creatures and care taken not to disturb them. So all round excellent experience. More people should have remembered themselves to take some sea sickness pills the night before and on the morning before setting out. Don't forget and you should be well rewarded.

We had such a good experience with these guys - well worth the money as they are first to the whales! Being a small boat they can move so quickly and the guys spotted everything way before anyone else. Felt really safe and were given fruit and breakfast on board. We saw dolphin, pilot whales and a fin whale. Highly recommend! Really easy to communicate with.

We had an amazing whale watching experience with Mirissa Water Sports. We chose this company as the pioneers of this intry. For sure, yes they did a great job. Our little children enjoyed very much. It was our first tour for Whale watching and we are really happy abouth the whole tour. They offered fresh breakfast, unlimited mineral water bottles, fruits and other refreshments onboard. The staff was really friendly and helpful. And also the crew members of the boat are very knowledgeble and they lookafter each and every passengers really well. I would like to thank Mirissa Water Sports very much to gave ua a unforgettable ecperience in our life time. We hope to visit them again. Thanks!! 🐳 🙏

Today we had the most amazing trip out by fast boat to find whales. And we found a blue whale almost immediately, thanks to the experienced captain and crew.the captain seemed to sense where the whale would come back up, and it must have breached at least 10 times very close by. The boat was very comfortable, they provided a lunch box for us and there was even a toilet on board. Excellent trip, and fully recommend the company.

We had a great experience thanks to 4 amazingly enthusiastic people who tried their best to show us the Spinning dolphins and Bryde's whales. The tour was well organized and received friendly hospitality throughout the trip. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team including Dear Chandi for organizing this level of tour and we as Sri Lankans are very happy and proud.

We didn't go snorkelling, but it might be worth asking Mirissa Watersports for their advice as the quality of their whale watching tour was excellent, so hopefully they can help you find good snorkelling too!
