About Raja & the Whales
We are a local family, providing environmental and sustainable whale watching in Mirissa, Sri Lanka since 2008. We are very keen on protecting the whales and also have been doing research about them for many years now. We are very proud that we are recommended in the new Sri Lankan lonely planet and by so many users of tripadvisor. For bookings please visit our website. The price for a whale watching trip is 6000 LKR for adults and 3000 LKR for kids. Small kids (< 6 years) are free of charge. A refund of 50% is given if we do not see any whales on the day of your trip. Please help to protect the whales!

This is probably the best company to do your whale watching trip. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were lucky enough to see a whale shark along with the blue whales. Note: The trip can be a little long and tiring, but have...More

Following an early start, the friendly Tuk Tuk organised by Raja arrived on the dot of the agreed time outside our hotel, a quick transfer through the winding streets and we are in the sorting office, registering and handing over some cash - although they...More

Raja were professional in organising the tour but what they don't do is listen to their customers. We were on a rough sea for 9 hours and it was a nightmare. After 20 minutes I'd had enough, the sea was so rough. They are up...More

Went for an early excursion on January 1st, 2019. Before booking, the man at the counter informed us that they don’t always see whales and that this is one of the toughest season in many years to spot whales. We knew our chances to spot...More

We met up with a Raja and the Whales sales rep in a little beach bar in Mirissa, who described their operation as a respectful, non-intrusive way to see whales. We paid a lot more to do the tour with Raja and the Whales compared...More

The crew were amazing! Very knowledgeable and environmentally conscious. The food was AMAZING! They really looked after us as the trip did take longer than they expected due to difficulty locating a whale! We got to see turtles, dolphins and a Bryde whale!

I was a little dubious to do a tour as was unsure how they would treat the marine life. However Raja and the whales are very knowledgeable and respectful and have a real passion for the ocean. They took two boats out and neither were...More
