We are a local family, providing environmental and sustainable whale watching in Mirissa, Sri Lanka since 2008. We are very keen on protecting the whales and also have been doing research about them for many years now. We are very proud that we are recommended in the new Sri Lankan lonely planet and by so many users of tripadvisor. For bookings please send us an email (anytime), give us a call (between 2 pm and 8 pm) or visit our office in Mirissa Harbour (2 pm to 6 pm). Our price is 6000 LKR for adults and 3000 LKR for kids. Small kids (< 6 years) are free of charge. A refund of 50% is given if we do not see any whales on the day of your trip. Please help to protect the whales!

We arranged our tour through email two days before, they responded very fast to your emails. We were picked up at 5.50am by tuk tuk and driven to the office near the harbor. This is where you pay and are offered sea sickness tablets, take them!! Once on the boat, we were offered tea or coffee and ginger biscuits. There... More

These guys really know what they are doing. There was a big swell the day we went on the tour but I still felt very safe. There was not many whales on this day but they still managed to find a beautiful big Blue Whale. Other boats seem to watch these guys because as soon as we stopped to watch... More

We chose Raja because it's said it would be the best company and that's why we were willing to pay a really high price. The stuff was friendly, the boat okay but they decided to go out on the sea despite the worst sea conditions imaginable (for one who is just a normal guy not one working on a boat... More

We went on a whale watching tour on November 26th. The staff was very well organized and provided sea sickness pills for everybody. The boat was decent and we took a seat on the upper deck. The weather wasn't really good (windy and rain) so the ocean was quite rough at the beginning until it cleared up (they say the... More

Rajah and the Whales were simply great! Passionate, experienced and informative (excellent English) guys who really care about their marine wildlife. They were hospitable and friendly: welcoming us with a fruit platter, tea and biscuits, then giving a valuable and informative talk about whales as we chugged out - on a thankfully relatively calm - sea. They were way ahead... More

Great tour, would highly recommend to everyone! The company was very professional, the staff was very knowledgeable and everything they did seemed environmentally responsible. They took time to explain lots of details about the whales behavior which really helped us understand. We ended up seeing a lot of blue whales on our tour, I would say over 10 different whales.... We arrived at Raja and the Whales office and checked in, we were then escorted to the boat and given tea and ginger biscuits, on advice we took sea sickness tablets a hour before, it took about a hour and a half to mortar out seeing a Brydes whale on the way, finally we saw six blue whales and got... We had a fantastic trip with Raja & the Whales. The crew (former fishermen) are incredibly knowledgeable and respectful of these amazing creatures. They take care not to disturb the whales and the result is a longer and more peaceful experience with them. They are trying to build a future for their children by promoting sustainable tourism practices and they... More

We had a great time on the boat. The crew was very nice and told us some interesting things about whales and their behaviour. We liked the animal-friendly approach: unlike other tour operators, they make sure the boat doesn‘t get to close to the whales and do not chase them, which is a lot of stress for the whales. In... I went out on a wet and windy morning which I was slightly apprehensive about, the crew advised seasickness tablets but said I could change to another day if I wanted. I decided to brave the cold winds and rough seas and wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The crew are very knowledgeable and respectful of the blue whales. I was... More
