Tours and Tickets by Raja & the Whales
Overview
Raja & the Whales was the first local family who started whale watching in Sri Lanka (back in 2008). We adhere to international whale watching regulations and provide valuable research data to various international marine wildlife research and conservation organisations. As a result we have a deep and profound knowledge of the ocean and its inhabitants. There is a 90-95% chance to see the whales during our trips. In case we could not find any whales on the day of your trip, we will either refund 17 USD per adult and 8 USD per kid or you can come another day for free. Please note that our trips take around 5 hours in average but that the actual trip time can vary between 2 and 8 hours.

We had a great experience booking our tour with these guys! They are so much more respectful of the animals than other operators who we could see trying to chase and close in on the marine life. Raja and his amazing crew respected the distance and never tried to chase any whales, dolphins, sharks, or turtles that we saw. They provided a good amount of food and water for everyone and the crew were constantly speaking to guests on the tour and telling stories and making everyone laugh. The tour is quite long though and the motion sickness pills do make you drowsy but all of those pills tend to do that so it's at no fault of the company. I'd definitely recommend going with these guys if you want to go whale watching.

We had the best day with Raja & the Whales. From the moment we were picked up at 6am they looked after us so incredibly well. Breakfast, lunch, snacks...not forgetting the seasickness tablets before boarding. Very informative and respectful, maintaining a reasonable distance to the whales without chasing them. We saw a turtle, bottle nose dolphins and a blue whale. An amazing day. They have a photographer on board for those close up tail shots and will e-mail you all their photos that evening -no charge. Such a nice touch. Very informative staff.

We were picked up from our place in the morning and went to the office to get our tickets then we went to the boat. We had breakfast served there and other meals. I wasn’t feeling well on a boat and they took great care of me. It was 8h trip as we couldn’t see whales so we went further down. We saw lots of dolphins and a whale. Was good experience.

My partner and I went on this tour last week and saw two different kinds of whales, it was amazing. They served breakfast and lunch (and a snack, I think). I got really sick on the boat but was able to lay down and the crew and everyone was really helpful. I really liked that the company followed international guidelines for whale watching and they took the time to explain a lot about the whales to us! The tours take as long as is needed to see whales (most likely, you will, but you never know). They take pictures of what we see with a nice camera and send us the pics after, so you can just enjoy the experience. Great crew and tour, I highly recommend!

The crew was very attentive and shared details upon questions. We had a smooth ride and saw several dolphins of two kinds, 2 blue whales from bit that far away and a sea turtle.
