We are a local family, providing environmental and sustainable whale watching in Mirissa, Sri Lanka since 2008. We are very keen on protecting the whales and also have been doing research about them for many years now. We are very proud that we are recommended in the new Sri Lankan lonely planet and by so many users of tripadvisor. For bookings please send us an email (anytime), give us a call (between 2 pm and 8 pm) or visit our office in Mirissa Harbour (2 pm to 6 pm). Our price is 6000 LKR for adults and 3000 LKR for kids. Small kids (< 6 years) are free of charge. A refund of 50% is given if we do not see any whales on the day of your trip. Please help to protect the whales!

Raja and the whales was a definite highlight of our Sri Lanka trip. The crew was full of characters, in particular the roguishly endearing Raja (who my wife found particularly charming), all of whom were knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. We were the first boat out of the harbour and the last back, leaving at just after sunrise and back by... More

Super friendly staff, not to many people on the boat, it costs 6000 rupees and you'll get half the money back if you should be so unlucky not to se any whales. They follow the international guidelines for whale approaching and they made it quite clear that they respected the animals and also participated in whale researching, I don't know... More

Raja and the Whales are fab! Tea and biscuits and sea sickness tabs to start followed by a decent briefing about whales in general and also how to responsibly watch them. Fruit platter followed and after about an hour of chugging we started to see blue whales - about 10-12 in total and they were amazing. In the middle of... More

Our hotel organised the whale watching trip with Raja. I had specifically stated that I wanted only to go with a company that would not chase or bother the whales in any way. Raja exceeded my expectations: the boot was comfortable, very clean, well fitted with safety equipment and life jackets and most importantly, they were really respectful of the... More

Raja staff explained how they work, showing with diagrams how they try to minimise the disturbance to the whales. Whenever they spotted a whale, they would align the boat alongside at a reasonable distance, rather than try to chase or block it. They are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The upper deck is better, for views and space, but you may... More

We tried this due to the hype but was disappointed. They leave the harbor at 7 am. Still you need to arrive around 6 am to get a good seat on the upper deck. Once in the open sea the boat rocks heavily against the waves. If you are likely to get seasick, you need to take medications an hour... More

We decided for Raja and we do not regret. It was very well organized, crew was very helpfull, good service and food. But the most imortant part of the trip was, that we saw many blue wales, also very close to the boat. No other boats around us chasing the whale. If you want to go for the whale watching... More

This trip was fantastic. The crew were extrordinary good at tracking the whales and did there best to make everyone satisfied with the trip. We saw about 7 blue whales and lots of dolphins.

From the beginning, this was very professional and welcoming. Free anti seasickness pills offered (and they are needed by some). Boat: good. Moderately busy but not overpacked. Raja and the Whales had run two boats due to demand and that actually meant that there was more space in each. We could move around quite freely. Modern and clean. New life... More

We went whale watching with raja and the whales. Despite being slightly more expensive than most, the experience and service were second to none. We went out and saw about 10-15 different whales. Most of which were blue whales. Also along the way we had 3 meals and tea. A great experience!
