About
MIG-Musea in Caves is a historical complex that hosts the International Wine Label Museum, The Road of Taste, the Tourist Office and the Horto de i Semplici. MIG is situated in the original caves of the monastery of Santa Caterina, that create today a special atmosphere for the visit to see. The visitor can also travel trought the history of the famous local Wine Festival of Cupramontana, through artistic posters, whose first edition dates back to 1928. But Cupramontana is not only famous for its wine: the Road of Taste leads the visitor through the discovery of local products, flavours and traditions, gathered from local farms. The Tourist Office is open Mon-Sat 10:30-12:30; and 4:30pm-7.30pm, and Sun. 4:30pm-7.30pm. It gives information and depliants about Cupramontana and its surroundings, but also souvenirs and ideas on "what's on" everyday. EnoCupra is the winehouse where the visitor can finally taste the most precious wine. It is open Fri to Sun 5pm to 9pm. On the outside, an ancient garden has been recreated, according to monastery's samples, where nuns used to harvest vegetables. Today the visitor can learn the benefits to the human body of the plants harvested in here.

When we were last in Cupramontana, this facility was under construction. Two years later, we returned to find a stunning center that houses a great resource for wine lovers. The setting in the basement of the ancient monastery features massive vaulted stone ceilings. It shows the town's dedication to promoting their Verdicchio, and is a very smart idea to combine the tourist center, wine label museum, and a tasting facility. Clearly there is information here for far more serious oenologists than we are, but we enjoyed a delightful tasting of 4 wines of our choice at 5€/person. The sommelier was charming and very well informed. This is a great destination for anyone visiting the Marche region!
