Lovely quiet place

Been here with my two year old. Loads of space to run around, a maze to get lost in, flowers to be amazed by and if you wanted, a long nature walk to do by the lake.

On pleasant summer's day, we walked through Heywood Gardens. It had been a long time since I had last visited but my husband and children had not been before. My husband and I both commented that it reminded us of the gardens on Garinish island - Ilnacullin, located in Glengarriff Harbour. The similarity is not surprising because both are in... More

These Lutyens gardens are absolutely beautiful and well preserved. Unfortunately the house and rest of the estate was destroyed by fire or torn down, meaning the gardens are without context. Now situated adjacent to a very grim secondary school, but don't let that put you off! They're still a tranquil and beautifully designed spot for a stroll. Terribly signposted though,... More

Didnt get time to do the walk but it looked a lovely place to spend and hour or two We had brilliant sunshine but over in the corner a huge pile of snow lay, which was there from a few days before.

Absolutely beautiful Italian gardens in Heywood, Ballinakill. Very poorly marketed and unknown to many tourists. Well worth a visit. Ideal for wedding photo's.

A garden with a difference, the school grounds are within Haywood gardens which are lovingly maintained. The addition of information boards gives you an apetitie for the history of the original site, there is no charge, however limited access to some of the gardens for wheelchairs. There are several photo opportunities. I have not done the extended walk but am... More

We took a trip here at the end of October and were not disappointed - the beautiful gardens designed by Lutyens are glorious - they overlook a man made lake surrounded by deciduous trees - in Autumn they were especially magnificent. The gardens are free to enter and were once the private gardens of the now demolished Heywood House. I... More

Beautiful gardens to visit. Easy enough to walk around the grounds, although maybe not with a buggy etc. Parking available inside the gate to the right. There were toilets there... but locked!

Came across this by accident and had a pleasant surprise. Gardens are very well kept and there was a lovely walk along by the river, we didn't have enough time to do the whole walk but we intend to go back soon. Well done to the gardeners/caretakers. The school beside the gardens must make for very happy students!
