Had been to Colico before but had not taken this path. I walked it for about 4.5 Km and found a back trail up a small hill to the Fortes dei Fuentes Ruins. Unfortunately they are closed for renovations until August 2019. The walk and hike were beautiful and there were plenty of people on the path doing the same. Picnic areas are also available. So although I was alone, I did not feel unsafe. I love to walk and if you do too, well this may be for you. Enjoy great views of the lake, Alps, farms and ranches. I also discovered you may rent horses at a couple of ranches if you wish. A really wonderful experience. Walk as much or as little as you wish.

Sentiero Valtellina has amazing views of everything you would expect in the Italian Alps, vast mountain ranges and picturesque lakeside views. The colour of the water is so amazing and clear.

There are a couple different Sentiero (pathways) in the Valtellina. We visited the one that runs along the banks of the Adda River. It runs from Morbengo to Tirano. Well maintained and rest points with BBQ's, benches, tables and water along the way. If you are looking for some exercise or just a place to spend an afternoon chilling, this is a great opportunity. There are many points along the to rent bicycles, go rafting and get something to eat. Enjoy.

What a gorgeous discovery it was to find Sentiero Valtellina on our recent visit to Colico. After our tour of the WW1 military fort of Forte Montecchio Nord we picked up the trail of the Sentiero dei Forti, the path of the two forts, in the direction of Forte di Fuentes. At a point we saw a lot of people and cyclists on another path walking back in the direction of Colico, we found the path and heading back along it as well.

This well used flat path follows the River Adda to the top of Lake Como, there are wonderful views of the countryside and it was wonderful to witness the energy and colour of kite surfers on the lake. We were most impressed by the number of what we presumed were local people out exercising on this gorgeous Sunday afternoon, well done Italy.

Once back in Colico we discovered that we had been walking on the Sentiero Valtellina which is predominately a cycling track which extends from Colico to Bormio to the east up in the Valtellina, a distance of 113 kilometres. This discovery warrants a return visit for us.

We were staying in Bellagio for a week and it was tricky enough getting our short runs for marathon training in - let alone thinking about how we were going to get 16 miles in - with our baby and jogging stroller, too. After hours of trying to find a path, we finally stumbled upon the Sentiero Valtellina. It's an amazing trail - mostly paved - that follows along close to the Adda River. We picked up the trail in Colico - parked at the beach parking lot - and started our run. This was an amazing find - a nice flat course - and we were so surprised to find a jogging stroller friendly path in Italy! The scenery was beautiful - running alongside the river at times, other times great views of the foothills of the Alps, and then being surrounded by cornfields on each side. We only went a bit over 8 miles eastward before turning back - but would love to return with bikes someday.

We rode the Sentiero Valtellina from Tirano to Morbegno last weekend. Beautiful experience! Well-signposted, rest stops aplenty & immersed in nature. One noteworthy trail interruption, however, on approach to Morbegno (from Sondrio) requiring diversion on to Strada Statale 38. Only a couple of kms & now bypass road construction is complete, hopefully will be rectified very soon! Meantime, refer to Sentiero Valtellina Facebook page for post outlining route alternative (Ardenno-Paniga/Talamona). Otherwise, trail is a wonderful concept worthy of repetition worldwide! Cruising along the Adda River for much of the journey is a dream, but access to the train service is the dealmaker as it permits multiple bailout points along the entire trail route. A real win-win for everyone! PS. A delicious lunch stop at Agriturismo La Fattoria (SO) was icing on the cake..
