We recently stayed at the all inclusive St.James Club. We highly recommend staying a week to enjoy the pools, beautiful beach, natural romantic settings on this beautiful island St. Lucia. We loved our dinners at Morgan's Pier. The oceanview rooms here provide spectacular views of the water and sunsets. St. James Club beach has many non motorized watersport activities like hobie cat, kayak, paddleboards etc. Each evening there was nightly entertainment.
A must excursion to be planned onsite is with Joy Tours, a full day cruise south with a variety of stops which include mud baths, waterfalls, snorkeling, beach with phenomenal views of the Pitons.

We were in St Lucia on a port stop on a cruise. Having seen mixed stories about this beach we thought we would give it a go. We walked from the cruise port which took 40 mins and was easy. There was nothing at all on the beach though, there was a thin strip of sand…too thin to lie a towel on really, and lots of leaves and debris from the palm trees…and I mean a lot! Reading travel articles we thought there would be a bar - but there wasn’t, there was literally nothing. There were a couple of couples strolling from the Sandals result but that was it.
From there we moved onto vigie beach. Having read mixed reviews on that beach we were a bit reluctant to go there but it was lovely and we wish we had gone there from the start.

As newly weds my wife and I stayed for ten days in Choc Bay, St. Lucia at the Villa Beach Cottages (http://villabeachcottages.com/) . Choc Bay is a small community spread along several miles of the main coastal highway between Rodney Bay and the capital city, Castries.
We found that everything we needed for an extended stay was available without having to travel very far--in most cases we could wak for groceries, money exchange and ATM, dinning, and general supplies. The main coastal highway is narrow and very busy, but there are shoulders and some sidewalks for pedestrian travel. In general, be very carefull to stay far off the road and use walkovers at either end of Choc Bay. Crossing the highway is dangerous. Extreme caution should be used with strollers and small children. There are bus stops at the center of Choc Bay and either end.
We were situated at the center of the bay dirrectly on a little used beach at the Villa Beach Cottages next to Sandles Halcyon (http://www.sandals.com/main/halcyon/ha-home.cfm). While the road is very bussy, one can walk about five minutes to the south and find a large shopping complex accross from the walkover. The shopping center has am IGA grocery store, bank, 24 hour ATM, general merchandise "discount" store, boutiques, eateries, salons, and others. There is little or no tourist traffic. A bus ride from the stop at Villa Beach Resort would take a minute and cost less than $1 US per person.
From the center of Choc Bay to the north, one can walk about five minutes to a large roundabout, cross the walkover, and find entertainment and food at another mall. This mall has an eight theater multi-plex, Dominos Pizza, Costco-style store, and a few other shops. To take the bus from Villa Beach Cottages bus stop would take a minute and cost under $1 US.
Next to Villa Beach Cottages in the middle of the bay, is a rustic restrant, The Wharf. It has little curb appeal and is usualy so empty that one may think it's closed. But walk in and the owner will great you, seat you, and get you started with his great selection of cocktails. The Wharf Restrant is open from 11 AM to 9 PM, except on Monday when it closses at 6 PM. The dinning atmosphere is simple, rustic, stlighly run-down, but in a charming pleasant way that could never be duplicated.
The Wharf Restrant features Catch of the Day seafood, local foods, and Western favorites like Fish 'N' Chips. The prices are very affordable. While the wait for food can be long, it won't matter as one can sit on the open air porch facing west and watch the amazing Caribbean sunset while waves spash on the beach a few feat away from your table. If mosquitos bother you, your host has some bug spray. It's worth it just to watch the sun set, a giant orange globe lighting up towering clouds, while shimmering silver waters of the bay gently lap at the shore. The panorama is breathtaking.
The owner makes great drinks. Wharf favorites are listed and explained on worn laminated pages. I recomend the B.B.C. Often you'll get a drink and a half because he makes too much in the blender. So buying two drinks is like getting three. We found that the owner trys very hard to get your drink the way you like it and will offer to "adjust" it by adding more of this or that to suite your tastes. Just experiment. It costs $7 US for most of the mixed drinks. Try to bring cash, either US or EC currency. A two course meal with drinks for two will be under $40 US.

While on a Southern Caribbean cruise, the port of Castries, St. Lucia was our 3rd stop. Did not want to be with the crowds since there were 5 ships in port. So, we investigated other not so known beaches and decided to give Choc Beach a try. What a delight! Not many people there, but not deserted either. Beach connects to resort, so it is pretty safe. Water was calm that day, beach clean. There are no chairs but you can walk to the left once on the beach and will find a small restaurant with facilities. Only need to bring towels, drink and sandwiches from ship to have a day of tranquility. Easy to get to, can be seen from ship, for those that can walk, will take about a half hour. We took public bus, .75 cents each way, bus number 1A. Bus stop two blocks from port, just make left once outside, go through local market, make left at light, bus stop on right. Local people on bus, friendly enough, helpful when asked which stop to get off, will let you off at end of airport runway, short walk from there to beach. Bus runs continually every few minutes back to ship, never more than two or three seats available, so a group may have to split up and meet at beach or back on ship. Highly recommend.

I visited Choc Bay recently and found it to be beautiful, relatively quiet, and peaceful. Choc Beach s a great place to watch sunsets; the sun literally slips over the horizon. I stayed at Villa Beach Cottages, which is on Choc Beach. Villa Beach Cottages is a perfect place, the kind of place that I would visit again. Choc is close enough to the action in Rodney Bay and Castries without being too close to either. My only complaint is that Choc Beach is not my favorite beach. The water was a little too rough for me, and I found it difficult to wade in. I would recommend Choc Beach for strong swimmers. For timid or inexperienced swimmers, it may not be for you.

So my wife and I travel to most places with an inflatable stand up paddle board. We are always interested in finding calm water/remote beaches that are not going to be crowded so that we can paddle board. Well if this sounds like you then Choc Bay is your beach! We were the only two people out of 2,600 on our cruise ship that came here. The cab driver did all that he could to talk us out of coming here I assume because he wanted to pack more people in the van to go to a more mainstream area. We were resistant and I am so glad we stood our ground. The cab driver was so relentless he even told us that we were going to get robbed and that there were lots of people that would run up and grab our stuff to then run into the woods. For about 5 hours my wife and I were the only ones on the beach other than the 5 workers that were raking and cleaning the beach. I asked them if we should be worried and they said that there was a problem at one time years ago but they caught the guys that were doing it and that they would not do it with workers on the beach which is 4 days a week. We had the best day here it was heavenly... Lots of sun and also lots of shade trees... Sandals has a resort at the end of the beach and lets be honest Sandals is not in the business of having crappy beaches. There is a bar that you can get drinks and food at. My wife and I packed a lunch from the ship so we did not eat at the bar. But the cab driver that dropped us off said the bar would call him when we were ready to be picked up and they did. It was perfect! Seriously if you are coming to St Lucia on a cruise this is your beach if you don't want to spend your day with all the other passengers.

If you want peace and tranquility and a lovely beach not far from the docking area of your cruise ship then try Choc Bay/Wharf Bay $5 each way, just past airport. Walk through the bar and enjoy the silence! Great cocktails too.

While on our 2 weeks stay in St Lucia, we checked out almost all beaches including Choc bay. This beach was somewhat a short drive from our rental villa in Rodney bay.
This beach is close to downtown Castries, particularly to their high end shops. It is also located to a small air strip where we watched small planes come in. Not crowded at all. There are very few trees for shade and the water is somewhat cloudy or Sandy compared to other St Lucian beaches. So not ideal for snorkeling. There is a small bar and restarurant on the beach though we did not eat there. Waves and current are strong so exercise caution. Good beach for long walks as it is flat and not crowded.

My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful 10 day stay. I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a good time and a comfortable stay. Not only are the staff friendly but helpful and polite. Joy's cruises is a must do, go see JJ on the beach by the almond tree.

We did a lot of research before coming to St Lucia and read lots about how great choc beach was, apparently it’s lively & has a great restaurant etc however when we asked the taxi driver to take us, they refused, saying it’s not a good beach, no facilities, no security... he drove us to it to show that there’s nothing happening there now, the restaurant is closed & so the atmosphere is no longer, there’s a 5* hotel on one end & they’ve got a designated area & they’re own security. But nothing else there. The travel book we used also raved about this beach but is clearly out of date.
