Very interesting place to get an impression of the kingdom “before the oil”. Free admittance. This place was “abandoned” in the mid 1970s. Some of the old oasis desert houses of mud and straw are beautifully restored while others are left as ruins. Showing the necessity of maintenance. Lots of photo opportunities in the narrow brown streets of old Ushaiqer. Have tea or arab coffee on the terrace or garden - you cant miss it. The private museum is definitely also worth a visit.
If you drive from Riyadh, take the time to go via Huraymila and back along the escarpment via Dhurma.

This is an amazing Village. definitely try and plan your trip to go here for a day. 2 1/2 hours outside of Riyadh. We hired a private car for the day and drove out. It was fantastic. The AlSalam museum was amazing. Also with the history of this area. Everyone here is so wonderful. I highly recommend visiting here.

Ushaigar, this architectural treasure of the Najd region, is a perfect day-trip from Riyadh... you can enjoy there the beautiful traditional saudi architecture and welcoming, friendly people, opening their houses to show you a real saudi atmosphere.... there are many amazing houses open as private museums, mosques that can be visited, palms all around, wells, silence and peace, a perfect trip far from the noise of the city... I thank you Mr Sami, and your 2 sons, a perfect guide who invited us in his beautiful house, offering tea and tales from the past... a unique experience...

The place was magnificent. Lots of antiquities that you can see and relive Saudi’s old lifestyle.

We Love how windy it was inside the village when the actual temperatura outside was already 47 degrees.

Great place for photography enthusiasts.

Take the day off and visit the heritage village of Ushaiqer. A village which takes you back to the years where people lived in their mud houses, socializing without electronic devices:)! You will find a village with partially restored houses, mosque, farmer land and wells. Make sure you also visit the museum where you can relax having a coffee with dades. So many things to see there, for sure nostalgia for the middle aged Arabs, and even a middle aged European lady...... When you go at the weekend, you can eat a nice traditional lunch, loved it.
The nice thing about the village is, that the families of the former inhabitants try to conserve the village and make it worthwhile to visit. Both government and families are doing restoration work (government externally, families internally). To manage expectations: you will not find all houses renovated, so parts of the village look neat, parts still need to be done. When walking around the village however, you'll sense the atmosphere of how things were.
I was taken there by Meteb from Amazing Tours, thanks Meteb, another great experience!

In a country with very few historic or cultural sights, a trip to Ushaiger is a pleasant day out from Riyadh. We saw the Marqab watch tower in Raghbah en route (it had collapsed and is currently being rebuilt), red sand dunes and arrived in Ushaiger at midday. Ushaiger has interesting architecture with covered alleys to escape from the heat, extensive date palms and a small museum with friendly staff. Unfortunately the historic houses were all closed. There was a restaurant of sorts (a house with large patio, children’s playground and moth-eaten stuffed animals) where we bought cold drinks, preferring the fast food restaurants in Shaqra for a late lunch. Like other tourist attractions in Saudi Arabia, Ushaiger will be great when all ruins are re-built, palm groves are cleaned, information is provided about past life in the village and there are good quality shops and restaurants - but that will require a seismic shift in Saudi attitudes towards tourism!

This place is for those who are interested in history and culture. The whole Village of Ushaiger was turned into a big open air museum. It’s like a time travel back to the mud houses were the only thing to build a house. The houses were preserved and renovated by each families who were settlers in this village. There are some houses that are open and visitors can get inside and have look. There are museums also in the village which holds some treasures of this place during its glorious past. Getting to this village is easy, search on google maps Ushaiger Heritage Village and after two and a half hours drive from the center of Riyadh, you will be at your destination. Enjoy your trip!
