I had a great trip in Axum and Gheralta. Everything was perfectly organized by Lucy tours. The guides were excellent, the driver Awet exceptional, the hotel was very comfy and perfectly located. Kiros is very professional and friendly at the same time. He always managed to solve any possible problem. He also gladly answers to all the questions you may have very directly and honestly. His tips and advices are very useful. Kiros helped me to find a good accomodation in Mekele without asking anything though it took it some time and energy. In short Lucy tours and Kiros did for me much more and better than a normal agency would do. I warmly recommend them. You will be treated much more as a friend than as a simple customer.

I wouldn’t go to Ethiopia without contacting Kiros and taking Lucy Tours. One of the most memorable experiences ever. The best part was trekking in the mountains in the North, the guide he organised for us was exceptional, kind and really made us feel welcome. With two children aged 9 and 10 and not much time it was very good to have a car and experienced and very punctual and professional driver. I would highly recommend Lucy Tours if you want to visit Ethiopia - they can Taylor a tour to your interests, time frame and budget. If I was to plan the trip again I would probably make sure to spend at least 3 days in each place to not have the feeling of rushing and ticking off sites seen. All in all an unforgetable trip - Thank you Lucy Ethiopia Tours and thank you Kiros, Shewit and Howitt

I was visiting my girlfriend in Ethiopia (She works their) in Feb and we've decided to visit some of the highlights in the country. We were a little hesitant mainly because sorting out the logistics was a very complicated process, although we've many people for advice but we were hearing different advice from each person. Fortunately, a friend put me in contact with Kiros (Lucy Ethiopia Tours) who made our life much easier! He went above and beyond to arrange one of the most memorable experiences we've ever had! He sent us all the information we needed on Whatsapp. We've compare his prices to other companies and they we less or more the same for the tour we asked for, so we've confirmed the trip and booked our flight to Mekele. The moment we arrived at the airport, we were greeted by our cheerful driver who was holding a sign with our names, he drove us to meet Kiros at the company's office. Kiros was AMAZING, he was honest, professional, super friendly, and most importantly a great human! He offered us a cup of coffee and explained and answered everything we needed to know about the trip. A few minutes later, our drivers arrived in their fully loaded Jeeps and our group started gathering. It was a small group of 12 people, 3 drivers/support crew, and 1 excellent guide. Kiros introduced everyone to our fearless guide (Solomon) and wished us a good journey. Solomon was one of the best guides I've met, he was always there answering questions and telling stories about the different local communities in the Afar area. We've met some other travellers during the trip who were part of other groups, they were complaining that they didn't do everything in there itineraries, and the quality of their food and service weren't as good as ours, and this is when we realized that we've definitely took the right decision when we chose to book with Kiros. I own a tour company in my country and I've travelled to many countries around the world, but the experience I had on this trip was another lever for me, the scenery, the geology, the volcano, the salt flats, the candy colored salt lakes, the people, the authenticity, the coffee!! All together made a Wonderful trip for me and my girlfriend. You can see the itinerary we did below along with Kiros's phone number: Kiros: +251 91 355 0959 Three days Danakil itinerary   Day one,   Mekele - Erta ale (volcano) We start our day by driving to (which means smoky mountain in Afar language). Erta Ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere in Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. Erta Ale contains the world’s only permanent lava lake. It is 613 meters altitude, with a lava lake, one of only five in the world, at the summit. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century. We start at 9:00 AM, drive to (at the base of Erta Ale). This is may be one of the roughest roads in the world. The 247 km distance may take about 5 hrs passing through changing landscape of solidified lava rock and sand After passing several small hamlets scattered here and there in this deserted land, you will arrive to Erta Ale camping site,. After a short break and early dinner, just before the sunset we will trek for about 20 minutes to Ertale , where we spend few hrs watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. And you will trek back to basic camp basement to spend the night, have a dinner and sleeping under stars). Day Two: Ertale – Hamedela Early Morning sun rise at the main pit crater and a second chance to watch boiling lava. Artale is, 65 m wide and about 100 m deep. Descend from Erta Ale around 7:30 am and walk down to camp site for about 20 minutes. where you will have breakfast and as soon as possible, drive about 6-7 hrs to reach Hamed ela (the next camping village ) .when time permits, in this evening we will visit lake Asale with sunset and camel caravans or visit morning sunrise and camel caravans. Day Three: Danakil to mekele-   Morning tour Drive to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the localities are mining salt. Look the activity of workers breaking salts from the ground, cutting in to rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dallol and visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) colorful salts mining, visit Lake Assal, follow up camel caravans and walk with the Afar people. Drive back to Hamedela and proceed to mekele.   As you will join an existing group, note that the starting and ending directions might be vice versa ( e.g start via dalol and then to ertale or ertale to dalol) But, you will still visit all danakil attractions like on the itinerary by starting from both directions. Cost for the Danakil part, $350 to join an existing group. The price Includes All Entrance fees and licenses as per the program. Accommodation and all meals throughout the tour. Bottles of water for the trip. Light sleeping bags ( sheets) Surface Transport expense with four wheel drive Land-cruiser including fuel expense and drivers allowance Local guide service for the afar region as per the program. Cooking, camping equipment, Scout and police service in Afar Region as per the program. Camel and camel tires in Afar Region as per the program.      For the duration of the trip we are responsible for all meals, water, entrance fees, accommodation, security and transportation.     What to bring Torches (walking in the night) Small backpack for the trek to the top of the volcano Closed  , comfortable  shoes (trekking shoes ) Swimming clothes San protection like sun cream, hat jacket for the night on the volcano Good luck!

From the minute we were collected at the airport to the time we said goodbye at the end of our Agame Mountains trek, we were in good hands. We hadn't expected the same guide for the whole eight days, but with Solomon as our guide that proved to be a bonus. He and his team were professional yet friendly, interested and interesting, and always helpful. We explored places we couldn't have imagined, we slept under the stars or in community guesthouses, we ate well, we talked and we laughed a lot: in short, we had a great time.

I just recently come back from a tour around Danakil Depression that I have taken with Lucy Tours and I definitely will recommend them. I mainly dealt with Kiros while organizing my trip which was so helpful and patient while answering my questions, he picked me up at dropped me off and the hotel. And I’m not gonna go into a long story but despite a rough start for my trip ( bring a solo traveler and a girl it’s not that easy), Kiros and the rest of the people at Lucy made me change my opinion and love Ethiopia. The tour that I took was for 3 days and everything was well organized, the drivers were very nice and spoke English. The food was really tasty throughout the trip considering the conditions are not the best. We were provided with sleeping mattresses and sheets to sleep for the 2 nights that we were on tour but do bear in mind that if you’re gonna climb the volcano it gets pretty cold so be well prepared. All in all it was a great experience and we got to see so many different things. I would definitely go back and choose Lucy Tours again.
