In April 2016 I’ve had an opportunity to join Carbery Sailing for Tenerife-Madeira leg on their trip from Canaries to Ireland. It was a great 3 day introduction to offshore sailing packed with numerous lectures from Chris and John on various aspects of sailing and passage making. In terms of experience and knowledge I’ve got much more than I could expect from such a short trip. Great food, atmosphere of friendliness and constant sensation of absolute safety on board have made it a great holiday. I can highly recommend Carbery Sailing for ocean sailing experience.

My mid-January sailing trip to the Western Canary Islands with Carbery Sailing was one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences I've had in some 13 years of sailing. We were brilliantly looked after by Chris and Aideen on board Merlin, their spacious and well-appointed Hallberg Rassy. Down time in the very un-touristy La Palma allowed time to visit the island's 2,500 metre-high observatories (site of the world's largest space telescope) and a most interesting silk museum in the village of El Paso. A night sail (well, early morning) provided the clearest stargazing experience you could wish for. And throughout the week we had several sightings of whale pods and had many escorts from playful dolphins. It was a terrific sunny interlude from a miserable Irish winter as well as a great brush-up on rusty sailing skills. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

This was a wonderful experience & I cannot speak too high of the boat, skipper & crew.
Please see my more detailed review on Google+
It is great value & a superb half day out. Chris & Mike manage to avoid turning what should be a relaxing holiday experience into a regimented endurance test & yet all the prudent safety precautions are meticulously observed & with style ! Thank you Chris, Mike & wonderfully favourable weather, winds & tides. JBD on 19/08/2014.

A wonderful day on a beautiful Hallberg-Rassy boat sailing in one of the most stunning places I've ever been. West Cork is a real gem. The day went by far too quickly with amazing views of dolphins, great views and lots of laughs. Chris and Mike are top and kept us well fed with delicious local food. I'm a big fan of Durrus cheese now and Julia's chocolate brownies. Thanks guys! Will be back for more!

My wife and I booked a one week Western Canary Island cruise and are thoroughly satisfied with our choice from start to finish.
The yacht is a beautiful, spacious Hallberg-Rassy 46; designed for blue water sailing and perfect for this location. We’ve sailed on the typical charter boats found in the Mediterranean and Scandinavian waters but such cannot be compared to sailing on a yacht specifically made for the purpose of sailing on the open ocean.

Our route wasTenerife-La Gomera-La Palma-La Gomera-El Hierro-Tenerife and we built over 250 nautical miles which included a night sail and an RYA qualifying passage of over 60 nautical miles. We had one day on land in La Gomera and ate every evening in restaurants near to the harbours where we stayed.

What really made the whole experience truly special, however, was Chris and Aideen’s support and dedication throughout. Chris is an experienced skipper/RYA instructor and we felt totally at ease in his capable hands and Aideen bent over backwards to make us comfortable on board. We were also able to participate as much or as little as we wished.

We unreservedly recommend Carberry Sailing, especially for those who are relatively new to sailing and wish to experience the open ocean. Thanks Chris and Aideen for a fantastic adventure!

I sailed today with Carbery Sailing and had a wonderful day. The weather was perfect, a bit of wind, but not too much. The yacht, the Merlin is spotless and so comfortable - Chris the skipper could not have been more helpful, informative and friendly. There were 6 of us on the day's sail and all had a wonderful day. I really recommend a day out with Carbery Sailing - go on treat yourself!

Had an amazing time with Chris Forker and his crew sailing in Ahakista. The Yacht is beautifully kept and a pleasure to be on, the food provided was tasty soup and perfect for a blustery day on the water!
Views on this trip are magnificent and so much fun having a go sailing or just sitting on deck admiring the views and enjoying moments of speed!
I would recommend this to anyone enjoys outdoor activities!! Plus no need to be an experienced sailor to enjoy the trip, amazing photo opportunities too :)

A trip on Merlin is a treat while on holiday on the Sheepshead West Cork. Take a day trip, weekend or a longer voyage. See the magic scenery in Dunmanus Bay from the sea

My wife and I had a wonderful day of sailing aboard Merlin. We can't speak highly enough about our skipper and host Chris and how enjoyable and memorable he made the day's sailing for us. Merlin is a very comfortable, well equipped yacht. We sailed up the Dunmanus Bay around the sheepshead lighthouse and across to Bere Island while enjoying wonderful Durrus cheese and crackers and amazing soup! The highlight was standing on the bow of Merlin as a few dolphins swam and jumped alongside. We would highly recommend Carbery Sailing and we will definitely be back again soon.

We had an excellent morning's sail aboard Merlin, a beautiful, solid and extremely well-equipped yacht.
Our hosts Chris and Aideen were warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable. They made sure that we were comfortably installed on board, briefed on safety and we set off on a cruise along Dunmanus Bay.
Having toured the Sheep's Head and Mizen peninsulas on land, it was fascinating to get the view from the sea, to see seals, the coastal rock formations and to learn more of the history of the area.
Chris and Aideen whistled up an excellent picnic lunch, gave us turns at the wheel under sail and ensured we had a thoroughly enjoyable outing.
If you're visiting the area, make sure to put aside a half-day or even a full day for a cruise in West Cork.
