Another stunning place

Wonderful temple, great for photographs. Go now to avoid the inevitable crowds in 10 years' or so. A must-see.

Bunker like temple atop of a hill
Mar 2017 • Solo
This squat structure with massive walls has a spiraling dark passageway to the interior chamber where the central Buddha figure resides. Worth visiting for its mystical atmosphere.

Favorite Temple in Mrauk U
Dec 2016 • Solo
This was the first temple that I went into and my favorite temple in Mrauk U. It is very different from the temples in Bagan. You go through a passageway that spirals to the a room with a Buddha statue. Along the wall of the passageway are niches with Buddha statues and between the niches are Buddha images. I believe the heads of the statues were removed a long time ago, so the heads of the statues that you see are not the original. Spend some time in here because this one is the most atmospheric.

A bout 350 feet to the west of Ratanabon Pagoda, 300 feet to the north-west of entrance to the Eighty thousand Relic is the Htukkanthein Temple. The Temple stands on the hill, 30 feet high, belonging with flat surface as a Drum. It was built by the Great King Minphalaung in 1571 A.D. Htukkanthein Temple was built with hewn sand stones and layers of bricks over the roofing.

So interesting

I know, in Mrauk Oo there are so many temples, but each one is different, each one has a special story. Take time to see all, spend one day more there to enjoy all them.
The architecture is so unique.
There are local books to know better and more about this temple.

beautiful

This temple is easy to reach, one of biggest and one of the most "developed". Beautiful and one of the places that made Mrauk U the most special experience in Myanmar for us

Amazing sights inside the monolith
Jan 2016 • Solo
From the outside this massive structure is daunting. Without embellishment or elaborate carvings it seems like a fortress.
There is debate as to whether it was built to protect from marauders or the harsh climate. In any event the labyrinth of passages takes the visitor on a mystery tour where around every bend we find another image from the lost Kingdom of Arakan.
Students of medieval architecture will appreciate the building's excellent state of preservation. Rugged and natural with a purity missing in its rich Eastern cousins.

One of Mrauk-U's must-sees
Dec 2015 • Couples
Great from outside and inside. Super dark inside without electricity (you'll see it looks a bit like a bunker and you can definitely tell once you're inside), which gives you an Indiana Jones-like experience with torchlights. A definite must-see in Mrauk-U.

Beautiful temple inside
Nov 2015 • Solo
Beautiful temple to see with many Buddhas statues inside which you past on the way to the centre of the temple which you will find a staircase with golden colour Buddhas and at the top the main one where people pray well worth a visit. Beautiful to see inside but sad when you take photos from the outside of the temple as your eyes are drawn to the repair work to the roof as it does not match the colour the temple.
