I was in the same TTC cohort as Calvin and it was a massive waste of time and energy. Rich has a very negative, snarky personality and ruined what should've been a positive and motivating learning experience. Think twice before joining this teacher training course as there are many other Yoga programs in Thailand that are practical and won't discourage you. I have now stopped practicing Ashtanga entirely and it is solely because of this experience.

Terrible school , I guess they can't take any negative comments , they said they are expected bad review form student that fail the exam . And they also said u need to k ow abc and know English to be able to do teacher training, which is not true . I took teacher training before and don't have such experience , you runs a business and u should expect comments . We only give comments base on experience , I never fail
Exam because I never took the certificate, I tossed it as soon as I get it, because o don't know the answer they are asking doesn't mean I fail the whole exam, they talk talk talk and expect u to remember things, they never teach student sequence regardless if u are beginner or not, they give u a sheet of paper and u just have to learn it urself , which any one can download online , I never learn my sequence from the teacher neither I have seen them perform any sequence one, it's ashtanga teacher training, the whole point is to learn sequence , but anyway , if u wanna join this class make sure u speak English , know sequence , otherwise it's just a waste of money;

As I was looking for a yoga getaway trip that could enrich my limited knowledge in Ashtanga, this place has well-fulfilled the purpose via a balanced structure of theoretical and practical workshops. When they said the programme is intensive, they meant it by all means! While there’s no obligation to join all the classes like a TTC, the building of internal energy through regular (physical & mental) practices and the encouraging attitude of Rich and Sofya as instructors would motivate you to crave for more. After 7 days of concentration on my own breath, muscles, diet, thoughts, under their strict guidance, not only did I feel healthier, I found the lost clarity in my mind which was the most rewarding take-away from this trip. If you’re looking to improve your wellbeing rather than simple relaxation, here is the place to look for.

The only tiny disappointment was the swimming pool facility as the bottom tiles were broken and dangerous to step on. Having said that, it was because I expected to soak into the pool in between breaks but the complimentary add-ons, eg. colon cleanse, Thai oil massage, ice water treatment have kept me occupied and even more beneficial for the time spent.

Originally I planned to go to India to do an ashtanga course thinking it would be more authentic but 1 month YTT courses made me question the quality of teaching, knowing it takes a lot longer if you don't practice on a regular basis. Gladly I decided to return to TAYSP and do an intense 4 week course.

Having first met Rich and Sofiya the year before, I absolutely fell in love with their classes. If you want to take yoga to the next level (beginner or advanced) and are willing to put the effort in, this is the place for you. They will adjust your practice accordingly with your skill level. The course itself is much more than just yoga practice, you also learn many different breathing techniques, theory, philosophy, history, anatomy, therapy, cleansing techniques...so you learn to see and understand the whole picture what the yogi lifestyle is about.

It was undoubtably challenging but also very rewarding. You will learn a great deal of self discipline and most importantly how to get the most out of it. They are great tutors, and know your body better than you do. My favourite part is the adjustments, you can quickly see changes knowing you are in safe hands.

I also opted in for the detox option in addition to the intense yoga course to maximise the effect hoping to solve my digestion problems and it did! After 18 months of suffering with bloating, bowels, excessive eating etc and having visited specialists in 4 different countries none of which were able to help, I finally know what's it's like to feel normal after every meal. Some of the detoxing techniques I was very reluctant to try at the beginning but having seen the benefits, I even started looking forward to them.

Whatever health issues you may have, the diet and practice will be tailored to focus on improvement of those areas. One of the best things about the course is that the techniques you learn, you are able to continue to use them once you leave.

Thank you so much! I'm so grateful from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done and taught me. Hope to see you again in near future for YTT :D

I ended up rearranging the end of my recent trip in Thailand to get back to Phuket before I had to return home to do some more classes with Sophia. A fabulous teacher. It was my first proper experience with traditional ashtanga yoga and I could not have wished for a better teacher or experience. My practice improved so much in the short time I spent with Sophia and I was sorry I could not spend more time there. I felt comfortable and completely trusted her when she was adjusting me in asanas and it was clear that she knew exactly what she was doing. I will definitely return and would recommend this Shala with Sophia and Rich to anyone visiting Phuket!! Even to those who have never tried yoga before. Great people and teachers. Its a pity I live on the other side of the world :)

As a beginner and having tried a few different yoga studios and teachers, Ashtanga with Rich has been a great experience. It is by far one of the most difficult workouts (for me, as I am limited in flexibility) but you finish with a feeling of openness and accomplishment. He is very attentive and helpful correcting and readjusting students as needed. I would definitely recommend trying his class but be sure to bring a towel and expect to sweat!

I ve been on holidays in Phuket and was looking for Ashtanga Yoga studio to practice Mysore daily as I didn't want to stop my practice. This studio is located in the centre of the island and its very close to BigC supermarket (just steps away) and close to Central Festival. The decoration of the studio is kind of authentic, reminds me of being in India :) I was really impressed with the teacher, as he has so much energy to do corrections and adjustments throughout the whole sequence. I learnt so many details and found out I can do some asanas I could never believe I will be able to do! If I ever be back to Phuket I will try to organize myself to stay there longer to able to attend more classes. Thank you Rich, I hope to see you soon! All the best!
P.S.: I was surprised that first trial class is free!

I was looking for the perfect spot for my solo-travel, by my understanding it means a balance between solitude when I needed it and a good atmosphere, friendly people to be with when I wanted to. I wanted to profound my knowledge of Yoga, learn about myself and improve my health. I chose this spot because of two main reasons; only two teachers who give all classes, meaning that they love what they’re doing, day in day out. Secondly the professionalism was clear, it wasn’t about ‘Some yoga classes in a yoga retreat’, but about the traditional and correct yoga and its approaches.

I am glad I chose this retreat, it met my expectations and above. I’ve learned so much, things I couldn’t imagine at first. Sofya and Rich are focused on your personal development, mind and body. In a firm, but encouraging way, they push you to your limits and you can’t help it, but love it. They give you so much, transmitting their knowledge in a humble way.

Also, very important, the food is awesome, a whole food plant based buffet is available. The food is perfect, the cook does an amazing job! I kicked sugars out of my life without a problem after this 2 weeks, and this coming from a sweet tooth. Also the homemade snacks and tea are a ‘looking forward’ moment of the day. :)

The room was perfect, above expectations, at a 7 min walking distance from the shala. Very clean, spacious and practical.

I have a very turbulent workschedule and no structure, but TAYSP motivated me to work on my lifestyle again from the inside out. And it was exactly what I needed. I am happy I chose this one out of many possibilities, it was more than I needed and could’ve asked for. There is no doubt that I would come back for more of this!

Sofya and Rich, you guys won’t get rid of me anytime soon :)

I’m taking daily classes in TAYSP as I’m here in phuket for hoilday right after yoga experience in India for 2 months.

I have been looking for a teacher who has a knowledge and experience of yoga and
Who I can learn something from.
(I know. all is good for me but as I have been practicing for years and I had a fractured spine before(I’m okay now), no one wants to adjust me (I’m quite flexible and I always want someone who can help me))

And finally I found one!!
I would say this is THE BEST ASHTANGA YOGA STUDIO IN PHUKET!

2 teachers.. Sofia and Rich.
They know exactly when is the time that you are able to try a bit more advanced postures to improve yourself.!!

(I met so many teachers who doesn’t know this timing. Like.. some teachers asks new students to try something impossible posture for them because that kind of teacher thinks that they need to just challenge students)

Believe me,
I can see my limit every time during the class but I’m gradually, constantly exceeding my limits !!!! It’s incredible!!
I’m so excited for more classes with them!

I highly recommend this studio to anyone who wants to experience of real ashtanga yoga :)

(I wish I could show you how much I progressed in this studio... but unfortunately I’m not allowed to take my phone in the class 😛)

Namaste 🙏🏽

This is a long review but the main point is TAYSP provides experienced caring programs that produce results and I would highly recommend them. Their programs are not for someone looking for a fun spa experience but for those serious about changing their lives and getting results. That being said I did meet some amazing people and have an amazing time that changed my life forever.

I visited TAYSP for a two month customized program from July 29th- September 27th and it is a program that has changed my life. During the program I lost a total of 16kg, built muscle, improved flexibility and balance. I also lost cravings for meat and processed food in addition to being taken off many medications for asthma and pain. Sophia and Rich are a credit to my success. They were dedicated, passionate and strict helping to push me past my limits. Every level of the program was well thought out and tailored to my individual needs. Traditional Ashtanga Yoga is for people who are serious about changing their lives. I wont sugar coat it, the programs are difficult and sometimes I didnt understand why they asked me to do certain things. In the end I saw that there was a purpose for everything they asked me to do, my health and safety were their greatest concern. They never asked me to do anything beyond my capabilities although they did push me outside of my comfort zone. Some of the procedures were foreign to me like the cleansing routines but I grew to trust that they knew exactly what they were doing to help me reach my goals.

I have never met two more caring dedicated individuals, and the they well exceeded my expectations. As yoga instructors they are both knowledgeable and experienced. They knew exactly how to adjust my body to the right positions and provide modifications for postures I couldn't do. They know their students on a personal level and I found that it helped them provide the best instruction. I highly recommend them for anyone interested in yoga at any level.
