We were in Cozumel for a shore excursion from our Holland America cruise. Our original tour was cancelled due to the Iron Man triathlon(basically entire island was shut down)so we went to Sand Dollar Sports instead. We couldn’t get a taxi so they picked us up in their boat which was an added bonus. We were very skeptical with snorkeling right in the port area and didn’t know what to expect, especially after seeing the roped off section that was to be the snorkel area, I was starting to feel duped. Everyone was very nice and helpful. There were large lockers to rent, a bar and restaurant right on the premises. We had our own tour guide that swam in the water with us that also carried a floating rescue buoy in case anyone got tired. They provided all the snorkel equipment needed, including snorkel vest. It was very rocky walking into the water but cleared up fast. Once in the water it was amazing. We saw so many fish, rays, sea cucumbers and coral that this was some of the best snorkeling we’ve had. We just snorkeled in Grand Cayman and it was better than that. I was very pleasantly surprised. We also saw the new coral that was being grown. We were in the water for a long time enjoying all the underwater sights. After our tour was over, we turned in our flippers and since we had our own masks and snorkels, we were able to go back out to explore more.
After we were done snorkeling the guide helped us all and even showed us a trick to keep our masks from fogging up. Showers and restrooms are right there as you get out of the water as well. They gave us another boat ride back to the dock once we were finished. Overall, we couldn’t have been more happy and Sand Dollar Sports saved the day. I highly recommend Sand Dollar Sports, they were very helpful, organized, everything was clean and they were great with the kids(we had teens and grade schoolers). The next time we’re in Cozumel, we’re skipping the ship shore excursions and booking right through Sand Dollar.

I had a bad experience with another dive instructor earlier in the week and my husband surprised me with a Discover Scuba Dive the day we were at Sunset. These people were amazing and even though they were booked for the day, they called in one of their fill-in people and took us on a dive.

I wasn't too hopeful of what me might see but it turned out AMAZING! There were plenty of coral to see and so much marine life that day. I don't think I have ever seen so many porcupine puffers, candy cane banded shrimp, stingrays, anenomes and eels all in one place before. We found eels that I had never seen before in this area: Sharptail eel, spotted moray eel, and a chain moray eel. Our instructor was quick to point out everything we didn't see and took his time with us along the way.

This area has a coral reef restoration going on and it is thriving well. They also have an electric reef came monitoring the sculpture "Zoe", which is an inspired DNA sculpture with plenty of sea life forming on it. The coral in this place is GORGEOUS! Brilliant colors of deep purple, light purple, blue, orange, blue and even pink! It was breath taking!

I would highly recommend this place and instructors that worked hard to pull together a dive for us this day. They even gave us a link for a discount they were running. I will use them again next time we are in Cozumel!

We were booking directly while on a cruise (limited communication during previous port stops) and they were VERY responsive and understood and cleared up any miscommunication/grey areas immediately. Bernardo was our dive master and he did a great job. Our group consisted of a diver where this was their first real dive since certification to a couple of divers with decades of experience. Bernardo made sure that everyone regardless of experience was safe and accounted for (making sure we weren't confused by other dive groups in the area) as well as being very knowledgeable about the dive sites and the creatures we would encounter in each. He was constantly pointing out wildlife for us to see, knowing their tendencies and preferred resting spots. I would highly recommend them and plan on diving with them again in the future.

Snuba experience with Julio and Didi was professional, safe and fun. With so many tour operators with pamphlets in your face as you walk down the street, it can be hard to pick one that you can trust. Sand Dollar is a very professional operation. They give detailed safety instructions in a ‘classroom’. The instructor is attentive, caring and knowledgeable. During the dive, Julio went out of his way to make sure that every participant was ‘okay’ underwater every few minutes — and he constantly pointed out underwater life and used hand symbols to tell us what they were. It was a reasonably priced, safe and enjoyable experience. Julio and Didi will take care of you !

I was there for an intro to scuba experience. They split the groups down to only 3 or so people per qualified instructor. Plus had good explanations and paid close attention to how everyone was doing. It felt safe and was safe! Compared to an aborted attempt in Dominican Republic, this was professional and worth it. Recommended. The area we were diving was varying depths down to about 30 ft according to my camera. Still being developed to attract more fish and grow more coral but it was equipped with hiding spots that attracted fish, there was a lot of transplanted coral getting a start, and a few larger fish and morays to find as well. Good tanks to clean up equipment and yourself after the dive. Boat ride to and from the cruise ship dock for me as well.
My only downside was the charge of $15 per photo for the experience - too pricey by me, so I left them.

Terrible experience. I signed up for the snubs through the ship. It was a family excursion. I am a strong swimmer and frequent snorkeler. It had the potential to be a good tour however we had faulty equipment and a terrible guide. When we got in the water there was no explanation and no testing of the equipment the guide just told us to follow him and started swimming dragging us along. I immediately started having issues. I couldn’t breathe. No air was coming through my regulator. I was up at the surface the whole time. The guide never checked on me. They just kept pulling the raft farther out. My husband came up to help me and thank god is a Padi certified diver. He noticed the flow on my regulator was turned off and adjusted it. I would never have known without him!! Once he adjusted I could start to get air but the mask was bad and leaked so again I couldn’t do anything as it was to big and leaked. Again my husband swapped masks with me. By then the guide had started swimming back. Not only that I was near tears because of literally everything. Again NEVER checking on me! You have a weight belt on pulling you down with faulty equipment and they don’t check! I could have drown. When I finally got to shore I was so upset at this point and asking the people around at the surface to help me. I came out and sat down to try to gather myself. Another passenger actually came over and gave me a hug because I was so visibly upset. Not one employee came up to me to speak to me or check on me. The only time they approached us was to swell us a photo. I tried to talk to someone but no one was in charge it seemed or cared they just ignored us. I would never ever use this dive shop.

Dear Jennifer, Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. We always take this information as corrective criticism. We are sorry to hear of your poor experience while attending the Snuba tour. Before we responded we wanted to make sure to do a thorough search of information and interviews with the staff that attended to you that day.Our research indicates that Didier Perez was your instructor for the theory portion of the class that day. Didier has a very thorough briefing and followed all the standards with regard to the do's and dont's of Snuba. Once the classroom portion of the tour was complete Didier divided the guests into groups of 6 guests. Each group was assigned to an individual guide who would be attending to them for pre and post in water adventures. Your guide was Gimer Noh. He was in charge of suiting up the group up for the dive and guiding you around our coral reef restoration area for the in water adventure. Gimer assisted everyone in the water for the shallow water (3 ft deep) skills and confidence building session. This session takes approximately 10 min. Once everyone is comfortable with their face in the water and breathing through the regulator underwater, the guests will slowly proceed into deeper water. As the group began to move into deeper water Gimer noticed your hesitance and some difficulty with bouyancy. He assisted you to the surface and after communicating with you he realized you were to nervous and were having difficulty using the regulator. Gimer finally got you to relax and was able to get you to join the group. Once you were down with the group he again realized you had been exerting yourself to much and could not relax. He again assisted you to the surface and suggested that you follow the group from the surface by holding on to the raft, and you agreed. He took your weights off to eliminate any possibility of you joining the guests underwater and assured that you were Ok and again joined the guests on their dive. After joining the 5 divers for their dive he took note that your husband was attempting to pull you down to join the divers. Gimer again joined you and your husband and advised your husband that it wasn't safe to do this and asked him to refrain for safety reasons. Once this was understood Gimer and the other guests were able to complete the dive without incident. All other divers completed the dive and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. After exiting the water everyone was assisted out of their Snuba equipment and directed toward the showers for a fresh water rinse. Gimer observed a rather brusk interaction with your husband as he was upset you were not able to descend during the in water activity. It was also observed that your husband is a certified diver and couldn t understand your hesitance. Your fellow divers also noticed you were becoming visibly upset , to the point of tears. Gimer approached you and your husband with our certificates of completion only to be turned away by your husband. Regarding the equipment comments you made. The regulators are all new Agualung regulators that are serviced and cleaned on a regular basis. The regulator you had was checked and taken for a dive by one of the staff and found to be working perfectly. Gimer did exactly what he is trained to do. It is under no circumstance allowed to force a guest to submerge if they are not ready. That is one of many great things about Snuba. If you are not ready you can just follow along on the surface by holding on the raft. We have been operating the Snuba excursion for more that 20 years with more than 10,000 guests having taken the adventure with 0 incidents. Our guides are extremely experienced and best in the industry at what they do. Again we appreciate every guests feed back and will always look at it as constructive criticism. If in the future you decide to return to Cozumel we invite you to join us for a wonderful snorkel tour over our reef restoration program to enjoy all the amazing colorful sea life we are privileged to have here in Cozumel Cordially, Sand Dollar Sports.

I did the beginners scuba dive on July 29, 2021. I arrived on Carnival Vista. My instructor was Sergio. My husband had backed out, and my daughter and her fiancée had another instructor. They vanished from my sight early on. So it was just me and Sergio. I had a rope to grasp and a life preserver ring to hold. Sergio was below in about 200 ft of water and I was higher up. I started taking in water so went up. Because of my lack of experience and panic, I had let go of life ring and rope. And pulled off my mask and regulator mouthpiece before I surfaced. So by the time I got to the surface, I was gasping for air and the weight of all the equipment was pulling me back under. Sergio was nowhere to be seen.
I had nothing to grasp onto. And didn't have the good sense to take off the weight belt or oxygen.
My life went before me and I knew I was going to die. I kept swallowing tons of water to keep from getting choked.
Everytime I grabbed for the life ring, it floated further away. I grabbed several times and went under each time. Finally I did one last try, and got it!! I was almost passing out and got the ring and tried to lay over it. Still taking in water. About that time, Sergio emerged and asked what happened. I could barely blurt out "get me to shore". He pulled me in to shore and it took me a while to breathe normal.
This terrifying experience has affected me greatly.

I'm writing this to say, don't go on this unless you have some experience with diving and equipment. The short lesson you get will not help you in a panic. And the instructor needs to be right by your side, at all times, instead of down below. I will never scuba dive again.

A small cove with direct access to a man made reef, water taxis, street taxis, food, drinks, massage tables, and a complete 5 star PADI scuba center. A one stop shop of fun. The man made reefs are amazing and filled with fish, eels, coral, and fun statues. The scuba staff is a well oiled machine, friendly and efficient. The equipment is newer and prices are fair. There are lockers for a small fee. They have a water taxi to and from the Carnival docks 8 minutes away. It was only $5 cheaper to book outside of Carnival.

Sand Dollar Sports never disappoints! Just dove Yucab and Paradise on a Royal Caribben excursion. The dive masters Bernardo and Jorge were fantastic and gave every one in our group individual attention. I first dove (with them, in fact) 10 years ago and now am an experienced diver but did note how attentive they were to the less experienced folks. Safety is their number one priority and it started with a thorough safety review before the dive plan. If you are a relatively new diver, this should help your confidence to jump in the water. Even if you don't need a dive master per se, they both really know the areas and will show you many things that you simply wouldn't see if left to your own. They know where to look and how to keep you safe and not accidentally inflict any damage to our wonderful reef. On top of this, the whole crew was just fun to be with. You can't go wrong booking your next adventure with Sand Dollar Sports.
