It was our first night in town after a long 13-1/2 hour flight from USA. After a quick shower and a short catnap, we hit our 1st night market at Linjiang Street Night Market.
We were hankering for simple food and found the famous traditional Taiwanese bun (with minced meat, pickled vegetables) with a very long queue. Our next course was the vegetable burrito (with cabbage, bean sprouts, cilantro, & bbq pork).
Then we walked around the 2-block area checking out the offerings and edible delights with long queues here and there. Wait! What is that smell ahead? It was the infamous stinky tofu, only the best in Taipei.
Time for dessert. With a great variety of vendors, we had a choice of boba drinks, mochi ice cream, walnut pastry, and fruit drinks.
There are shops with the latest cell phones accessories for all makes and models, fashion clothes and accessories for everyone, and a general store.
Whether walking around with food wrapped in plastic wrap, dished in a cardboard bowl, or served on a skewer, it was DELICIOUS and TASTY ... at Linjiang Street Night Market.

Not so keen with shopping, we went to this place just to look aroud, mingle with the locals and take a closer look with Taiwanese street foods. It's a good experience. There's a lot of things for sale and if you want to go bargain shopping, this is the place to be. An added bonus is the nearby pet shops, I really loved looking at the puppies and cats that were there for sale.

Taipei has several night markets. Tonghua is a smaller one, still very busy, but easier to walk around at the peak hours because of the layout on a single street. This is a good option if you are staying in central Taipei and just want to savor a night market for a couple of hours. I took the MRT (Brown Line) to Liuzhangli, and walked about 5 minutes to get to the night market.
There is something for most people inside the night market. I settled for some excellent teppanyaki at a busy shop inside the night market - it was well worth the wait for a stool at the grill, which was clean and served up to 10 people at a time. I had several mini helpings of tofu, fish, omelete, and vegetables, served with rice. Beef and chicken was also available. You can sit and enjoy the atmosphere inside for about 30 minutes - The total tab for my dinner was under 300 TWD (or 10 USD).
There are many other options as you walk down Linjiang Street, including fresh cut fruit, various desserts and other simple cafes, plus the unmistakable stinky tofu stalls. This is all mixed in with stalls selling casual clothing and other trinkets. The night market stays open until 3am, but it is less crowded from midnight onwards. A nice way to get a taste of Taipei.

My friends and I stayed at green world hotel near zhongxiao dunhua met stop. It was a 80nt taxi ride to the start of the market. Interesting food stalls and some shopping. We got a foot massage to start which was cheap and then walked around to get some food. If you have a chance, try the spring roll ice cream: coriander, sweet peanut brittle and three scoops of ice cream all wrapped up. Weird but delicious! Good market with manageable crowds and good selection of food. Watch out for the stinky tofu!

This market is much nicer than Shilin. It is cleaner, more open and less touristy. There is a wide range of food choices, clothes vendors and shoe shops. There are both sit down restaurants and push cart vendors.
There is the main Linjiang market street, and then lots of smaller branch streets off of the main street.

Lots of clothing shops that are a bit nicer quality but higher prices. Lots of food option too. This is a little further to walk from the MRT station, about a 10 min walk from Xinyi Station. But there a lots of shops along the way as well as this is in the nicer part of the city near 101.

This is no doubt the most underrated night market in Taipei. The night market is definitely shorter and smaller than most other markets and can be completed in less than an hour. However, most stalls there will be what you find in other more crowded night markets so you still get to try the food without the crowd.
The market is also less geared towards tourists but more towards the locals so the atmosphere is much more friendly unlike other markets which are geared towards the Mainland Chinese who are rowdy and rude most of the time. Shopping is great too and there are multiple shops along the street.
Would definitely recommend to visit!

Best night market for food in taipei. Extremely affordable and tasty. There are many taxis around. Took a taxi from taipei 101 and reached in five minutes. One of my favorite night markets.

A night market for foods... Nice for a walk after meal too. Solo or group tour are OK but will be great to have companion for walk.

Compared to other night markets, this one has fewer food stalls and lots of retails stalls. It is very easy to get to by bus or MRT (Xinyi Anhe). The fresh fruit was a little overpriced.
