A cool place to have photos taken. Make sure to buy fruits as well as some souvenir items before leaving.

I was staying in the Garden Villas hotel. Righ out the door there was the city bike rack. This great program allows you to get a bike for 1 hour for no charge. Even after this the rate is very small. Be sure to visit early in the morning, it gets hot in Kaohsiung!. You will see all the retired people around the lake. I was able to easily go around the lake 2 times in one hour, this was a good time.

I arrived at the park around 10PM, and did not get to do the full tour of the park as the gates close in the early evening. However, I do not regret going at night. Under temperature like this, I would not walk around the lake, let alone during the day. If you are a photographer, like me, the scenery around the lake, and especially the temple, is much more worth the trip in the late evening. Make sure you bring a camera stand and spray lots of mosquito repellents though. Kaohsiung is well known for its mosquito population, especially in the summer months. I was stung about 24 times during my weekend trip there.

I rode a taxicab to visit this attraction, by myself. I went there at 10:00AM & there were only a few tourist around. The first thing that I encountered were two very ,very tall round- shaped 7 tier pagodas , & each tier has a ring shape decor that goes around it , and on top of each pagoda, there is a 3 ft long structure that tapers on it. The pagodas were both located on the lake . At the entrance of one pagoda there is a huge colorful statue of a dragon with open mouth, and the other pagoda entrance has a huge colorful statue of a tiger with open mouth. As I walked along the Lotus pond I saw vendors selling souvenirs & fruits just infront of a huge colorful temple. Further along the way there was another temple complex which is even bigger than the other one.I stopped & took photos on each one of them, everything looked so beautiful & colorful . As I walked further, there was a long bridge that I had to cross to get to another bigger & wider pagoda temple . It has 3 open tiers in vibrant dark orange color & each tier has a polygonal shaped golden roof that has 4 golden colored structures tapering on 4 sides of the roof. The pagoda is sitting on the lake at the end of the bridge. There are a lot of lotus plant with white flowers . floating on the lake. Then it started to shower, so I decided to leave before the rain started to pour. Transportation was very accessible there are taxicabs waiting at the entrance of the temples. I enjoyed my visit.

This is a small erawan shrine located near lotus lake. It looks somewhat like the main and more popular erawan shrine with four sided buddha in Bangkok. Not prominent, so easily missed.

This Erawan Shrine is much smaller than that of Bangkok, Thailand. It is widely known as “Four sides Buddha”. The place where the statue is put doesn’t seem to be a temple, but it is. You go in, and you revere the statue from all sides.

We walked from the Ecological park MRT station. Visitors can also change to a bus at the MRT station to reach there.
The lake is huge. There are several temples by the lake side including the popular Long Hu Ta (dragon and tiger pagoda). The water games and restaurant were closed when we were there due to bad weather.

This would be the same attraction as known as Beiji Xuantian Shangdi. Same review as given for that - one of the attractions on Lotus Pond during our walk around the pond. Interesting huge temple, colourful, nice art. Mishmash of stuff inside - boxes, wares to sell, small Buddha shrine inside, chanting woman in a trance on the second floor (didn't stick around). Nice views of the pond and shore from here.

We took an Uber from near the train museum/cruise terminal to the park for $5-6 USD each way. Cheaper than the metro for our family of 4 and very convenient using the Uber app.
The park itself is free and there are several animals to see and walk inside on the lake by using the boardwalk along the lake. There were tons of locals taking strolls. We didn't see any other westerners.
Probably one of the highlights of our two week trip. Our kids loved it - especially walking in the tigers mouth.
